  1. Remember the Twins were basically a small market team with the dome. Now they have the revenue stream to be midmarket. I would think that even $130 million would not hurt them. It all depends on how you spend the money. I would work on the KC model and expect in 2 years we will have a shutdown bullpen. Fixing catcher now is manditory and finding an ace if not Berrios will also help. I am looking forward to this offseason and seeing what moves are made.
  2. You can't trade him now as he is at low value. Hope he improves in spring training and is at least a utility player. Fixing the pitching and bullpen will let you carry a 4th bat.
  3. Looks like he would not have final authority except for money. That probably would be a non-starter for him.
  4. I would guess he would ask for Plouffe plus more. Would not trade May or Duffy, they will offset some bigger salaries needed elsewhere.
  5. that will only bring you an overpriced prospect at this time. Other GM's are not stupid, they would start by asking for one of your top 3 prospects and maybe more. This is a position you will have to fill with money.
  6. would expect him to start back in Chattanooga, and hopefully move to Rochester shortly after.
  7. Command would also be an issue. If he cannot throw the slider for a strike some of the time, MLB hitters soon will not chase. Also will need the changeup for left handed hitters.
  8. I am more in favor of moving Plouffe. Moving Gibson may be needed with all the starting arms the Twins have. This should bring back a catcher and sign another FA starting pitcher and patching the bullpen. Should try and package Nolasco with others to free money space. Do not expect hard throwing bullpen to be here this year, so a patch job with no long term commitments is needed. Hopefully that will arrive in 2017.
  9. Core was not good enough to win, and Texas gave up a lot for Hamels. Some of the posters I saw on other sites called the deal a win for the Phillies. Toronto got a lot, but gave up a lot of possible very good pitchers from their system. Terry Ryan would have had to move about 1/2 of the Twins top prospects to get some of the players to try and get the Twins to the next level. Offseason moves should patch most of the holes(catcher, bullpen and upgrade to the starting rotation). This may be helped by moving some of the mid level contracts the Twins now have on the books.
  10. This part of the list is still good. Defensive catchers have their place. One of them may hit later. Do not like Rogers, but he may have a place. Rest of the list I am ok with.
  11. Another year will help the young players. Some (Rosario, Hicks, Buxton). Rest will have to hit more.
  12. Let's look at recent acquisitions. Jepson for two lottery tickets kept the season from falling apart. Escobar was a very good pickup. Milone for Fund was a steal. Not all work out, Meyer for Span is looking like a bust. May for Revere is looking to me like a slight plus for the Twins. Money is still an issue for the Twins. Next 5-6 years should be good.
  13. I think you have Gibson too high and Gordon too low, but nice list. You will have to package money or a decent prospect to trade Nolasco. Nice list.
  14. I still believe you need an ace for the post season(or a lights out bullpen). Twins do not have the talent to pull together the lights out pen this year, so I would be looking at an ace pitcher(and possibly getting rid out Nolasco and Plouffe to free up salary. Resigning Hunter might be tricky, but if not you save more money. Still need a couple of more bullpen pieces(one less if you leave May there, but that would be a waste of talent)
  15. Yes, TR would have to deal some pitching to make room for Cueto. When you get to the playoffs, you need the ace. I think, given the Pohlad intervew, that he could spend more money to make this a great team, You might also have to move Plouffe to make this possible, but all is doable. Would rather have one of the two Cleveland starters for Plouffe if possible, not as good, but leaves money for other areas. This is a good plan 1B.
  16. Was surprised to see Michael and Goodrum this low. Rest of list looks like suspects, though pitchers that throw 97-98 always have a chance. Do not expect Twins to protect Michael and if we lose him, he does not have a clear road to the majors with Gordon, Polanco and others already past him or nearly past him. TR has some extra assets to deal, or we will see what he can do with them
  17. Good article, very good breakdown. Twins have many options going forward, so we shall see what the pen looks like next year. Expect Twins will trade a starter or two in the offseason, so hopely club will look different next year.
  18. I think Duffy starts here, That may make if difficult for Milone to make the rotation, but it is what it is. Twins probably need to trade a starting pitcher in the offseason, but the likely one if Gibson and I do not know if that will be good. Maybe you package Nolasco and one or two of the less likely prospects (Arcia and a bullpen piece or Rogers) for something of value. Tough offseason and most will not be happy.
  19. Dozier I would only trade if blown over by the offer, Polanco could give us about 80% of what Dozier does now. Plouffe I regard as gone, probably closer to the end of spring training, now most GM's would look to acquire him in a win deal, a prospect or a suspect and maybe a bullpen piece. That is way too low for Plouffe. Outfielders I would keep until spring training, but could see Arcia being dealt as there really is not place for him here long term unless Joe Mauer retires. Twins have too many DH types, so one of Vargas and Arcia will need to be moved, but neither has a lot of value to bring a player back. Only Twins hope is to package 3-4 of these for some value, or send one along with Nolasco for a piece or better prospect.
  20. Of the 5 free agents, I can see only Cotts being kept. My guess is that one of Herrmann and Pinto will be gone along with Fryer. Achter, Thompson, Robinson, possibly O' Rourke. That leaves you with only the 7 - 8 listed above having to be protected, though in a pinch, I would not protect Rogers because Twins have too many choices the next couple of years under him. Some clearing trades are needed, lets hope they are the right ones.
  21. Would hope to see Duffey in the rotation, if he can make the adjustments, he has nasty stuff.
  22. Hopefully Nolasco will be moved this offseason, but doubt it can happen. Twins need to move a starter(at least one) to clear up room for the prospects here and coming. Would hate to see Milone moved(all he does is win) and has a bad game once in a while. Twins should not move contracts just to move contracts, they should be in win mode next year and extra starters will be needed.
  23. Adding Hughes back to the rotation has to be a plus. If Duffey has run out of innings, Twins will have to use other options, hopefully not Plefrey.
  24. Can see the reasoning, but other assets can be used to buy a catcher(San Diego has an extra and would not cost as much). Cannot see Boston doing the deal, but frontline starters are a much greater asset than very good catchers, no thank you
  25. I would guess Polanco over Santana(but could be both). Vargas and Kepler(only after Chat finishes in the playoffs). Arcia will be sent the message and left down. Hicks will be back. Pinto(I hope, need hitters not backup catchers). Probably relief pitchers, but do not like using 40 man roster spots for pitchers with little hope of being here next year). Tonkin(maybe), Hamburger, Darnell, and possibly Burdi or Chargos(hoping for the latter). We need relief pitchers with stuff.
