    It's obviously apples to oranges. And I wouldn't imagine Jax or any pitcher to get to the heights that Santana did (still think he is hall of fame worthy.) Just saying that sometimes it takes time for a pitcher to "click" in their role. That's all.

    Lopez had a down year compared to 2023 but still had 3.6 war. Arraez had 1.1 war and a .739 ops, along with a 109 rc+. All perfectly ok numbers. After their poor start to the year, they played at a 100 win pace from the end of April through the early part of August. Then the team forgot how to hit in any sensible way. That is still mind boggling to me. Lopez makes the team better.

    The stadium is a big one, but having a strong farm system is certainly a bonus.

    I'm curious what Lee will look like in the spring. Last spring he had a herniated disc and back spasms, and then when he did come back in August eventually he had to have cortisone shots in his shoulder for some issues there too. A healthy Brooks Lee is a better defender than the one you describe (at least in my opinion.)

    Well, and hopefully whatever also happened to Miranda the last 2 months of the year can be fixed too. Curious if that is an injury or something else. He was also really good (like a lot of the roster) until he wasn't. We'll see.

    I get that, where Royce (who wants a large contract someday) would be more valuable to himself playing anywhere but 1B. That's why it seems crazy. Who do you think is a better fit at 3b next year, assuming good health? Lewis or Lee? Heck, throw Miranda in there too? I also am fairly bullish on Keaschall, at least by May or June 2025, to be a mlb regular. Maybe that's at 2b? 1B? Lots to figure out this offseason. Just throwing out that Lewis I think could handle 1B well, but if he is healthy and can play better at 3B or 2B, that's a good problem to have right?

    This MIGHT be a crazy thought. Just throwing it out there. IF Royce is having issues throwing from 3rd, and he had leg issues which caused his bat to drop off in the 2nd half (that is probably what happened, right?) why not look at trying him at 1st ongoing? He certainly has the power profile for a position like that too. Have to get him right either way, just thought I'd throw it out there. Maybe it is crazy, but in my head I could see this. Get Lee healthy too. His back stuff last spring along with his shoulder stuff in August didn't help his season. Hopefully he is fully healthy come spring.

    I’d say that brought a playoff series win no? That had nothing to do with the collapse at the end of this season.

    I'd be very surprised if any of Lopez/Ryan/Ober are traded. It came out around the deadline that they had listened on Duran. He is the guy that I would think could be on the block if they do get a good offer.

    They haven’t really historically traded players away who are coming off down or injured years. If you look at a player as an asset, it wouldn’t make sense to trade them when their value is lower than they think it should be. I can’t see a scenario where Joe Ryan is traded away, unless they get value as if he were healthy the entire season. I hope they don’t trade Ober either. But this clearly was his career year, at least so far. So for that reason only, I’d be less surprised if he were traded for a haul. I don’t think either are traded though. They don’t have to cut payroll.

    Skor is reporting that Matt Borgschulte is the new hitting coach. The last 3 seasons he's been one of the two hitting coaches with Baltimore. Before that he coached at a number of minor league teams in the Twins organization, and with the Saints specifically in 2021. I'm sure there'll be more to come. He's only 34, and former college coach and player.

    There is an athletic story out about how a number of spring training sites, including those for the Yankees and rays and orioles, all are fine. The Twins site is so close to both where the rays and Red Sox play. I’d imagine the site is fine

    I don't see how you can put Paddack ahead of Festa. I just don't. I'd have Paddack (if he is still on the team) as the long guy initially. As of now I'd have it as Lopez/Ryan/Ober/SWR/Festa in the rotation. I'd certainly be fine with trading/adding a front line starter once again. We'll see if that happens. Otherwise I'd also expect a decent minor league veteran to be added to the mix who POSSIBLY could start at Saint Paul. I just can't put Paddack ahead of Festa to start the year as of now. I'm not even all that certain that I'd put Paddack ahead of Zebby. But if he is on the team, he could be a long reliever no?

    I don’t agree with having Topa on this list. He isn’t at all a difficult decision if he is healthy

    Not going into financials, as well as not going into who is going to be added to the front office and coaching staff (as applicable.) Just throwing out ideas of things I think would help the roster. 1) Acquiring a solid left handed bullpen option. I don't know if this is via trade or free agency, and I actually think their bullpen is looking solid for 2025 with adding Varland and Topa to the mix. 2) Determine which of the youngish guys who fell off the table in August and September (and there are MANY) were playing through injury, and which ones instead are ones that we won't attempt to build with. I'm not going to list the names, but I do think there is a good chance that one or more of the younger position players who were a part of the team in 2024 won't be a part of the team in 2025. 3) Acquire someone who can be a middle of the order bat. Maybe that's at 1B, or DH, or a corner outfield spot, but this team desperately needs a veteran who can be penciled in the cleanup spot. They've missed that since Nelson Cruz left. They could do this in free agency, or they could do this via trade. They certainly have a LOT of prospect capital. Beyond that, it'll be interesting to see if they do try and get out of Paddack and Vazquez's salary. I don't think it's a need (as both are signed through only 2025) but it is a possibility. I wouldn't make a point to trade away Vazquez as his defense is certainly a positive. I actually am more bullish than some, potentially, on what the rotation will look like and the depth behind it. But I do think prioritizing at least one arm could be important too. Don't want to have to get to the 8th starter in May if possible.

    It FEELS like this could have been coming even if the season didn't nosedive, at least in my opinion. Curious if they will promote internally or look outside. And how much power the new GM will have in terms of player acquisition.

    Ok, let's say they are looking for a new GM. What would people want in a GM? I'm assuming an internal promotion would be frowned upon by local fans (even if someone deserves a promotion) but would people want/need an external hire for this? After internal/external, what type of focus would you want out of a new GM? Like, would you want the new gm to be more aggressive/less aggressive than Levine has been?
