  1. Michael Helman to St Louis for cash considerations. That’s one of the 40 man moves needed to make space for Coloumbe and Bader. per Bobby Nightengale
  2. I thought the franken-prospect draft was a super fun thought experiment. And fun to have the 3 different teams to "draft" from. Fun show as always!
  3. I have a hard time seeing Castro being a primary 1B.
  4. That, or two other options... 1) They want him to focus solely on 2B. OR 2) Maybe they would move him to bring something else in? These coming weeks are super interesting. I'd lean towards #1 over #2.
  5. Could also just mean they don't feel like they have a true backup SS on the roster any longer. But yeah, I'd truly imagine that Martin could be in the outside looking in with that scenario. And of course, if they do trade Castro, they would hope to get something decent for him. Moves to come :)
  6. Mountcastle was runner up to Santana last year in gold glove voting in 2024 and was also a finalist for gold glove in 2023. The Twins have certainly said they want someone who is solid at 1B on defense. I'm not certain they will find a LOT better on defense that is actually available. But yeah, Bailey Ober alone is MUCH too expensive. I also don't think Castro/Paddack is a fair trade at all. I'd imagine a fair deal is closer to one of our AAA type arms (Zebby/Morris/Lewis/Culpepper/Raya) and maybe a lower level pitching prospect too if it is Lewis or Culpepper) too.
  7. Just updating here that MLB owners unanimously voted to have John Seidler, brother of late Padres owner Peter Seidler, as Padres new control person this morning. There was a dispute going on as far as who would be the primary person in charge of owning/running the team. https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2025/02/06/mlb-owners-to-vote-on-john-seidlers-padres-role/ I don't know if this has anything to do with a Cease trade or not. But having a person in charge formally COULD potentially get things moving for any more moves that the Padres will make this offseason.
  8. I LOVE this idea and this fit. He would help on defense, and his pull heavy swing would play well at Target Field. Plus, with our new hitting coach coming from Baltimore, Borgschulte would certainly know Mountcastle already and know how to help him day to day. I don't at all think Bailey Ober would be the cost for Mountcastle. That seems very steep unless Baltimore sends more coming back. But we do have a number of young pitchers at AAA that I think could be a good fit going back. 100% I am sold on this. Hopefully it can happen
  9. I have a hard time reading projections when they don’t truly have a starting caliber 1b on the roster, as well as Paddack being listed in the rotation. I’m not certain they will be able to bring in a big name starter like Dylan Cease, but I am certain that our starting 1b isn’t in the organization today. Moves are still coming, and these next week(s) will be interesting to say the least. Also, are we truly listing Brent Headrick as a starter option? Is he even the 6th starter in Saint Paul as currently constructed today?
  10. Just went and read it. Kiley McDaniel predicts Jenkins will be the #1 prospect in baseball next winter. It's not for right now. He is currently #3 on his list, which is also awesome.
  11. If you told me over under 1.5 more moves (trades or signings) between now and opening day involving mlb players, I easily take the over. I may take the over on 2.5 also. This move is more of a few to come.
  12. Only came here to point out WHY Soroka got paid. As a starter in 2024, he was AWFUL. 0-5 record, 47 2/3 innings, 28 walks, 31 k's, a 5.85 era and a 5.5 fip. He was cooked. Then, when switching to a reliever, he really was pretty remarkable. 32 innings pitched, 53 k's, 16 walks, a 3.09 era and a 2.76 fip. That's 14.91 k's per 9. It's a small sample, granted. But the Nationals are paying him because he struck out that many guys when he switched to the bullpen.
  13. As a veteran presence/platoon option, I wouldn't mind it at all. As a starting 1B, and/or an impact bat, I think they will have to go the trade route. And I hope that happens.
  14. Totally fair. I do think they have been open about wanting solid defense at 1b. I like Casas for his power and his potential, but as of opening day this year he apparently still has a ways to go on defense. I have a gut feeling that Ryan Mountcastle will be our opening day 1b. 2nd in running for gold glove last year, signed through 2026, and our new hitting coach definitely knows him. Baltimore, if anything, could be open to it just with how many young stud hitters they have.
  15. Gotta say, this is just too low for Casas. I know he is a 1b/dh, but he has legit power and has shown it. Julien was really good in 2023, but doesn’t have a defensive home and couldn’t hit anything that wasn’t a fastball in 2024. He has to have a healthy 3 months while producing to not have negative value right now.
  16. I have to think Paddack goes at some point, but maybe they do something creative and move Duran for someone that helps in a different area?
  17. I agree. I just think being creative here over the course of the offseason and at least listen. I'm not saying I'd be open to trading either Ober or Ryan right now, but you have to see what the offers are right?
  18. It'll be interesting to see how this offseason still plays out. They have a full bullpen already as far as guys who don't have options, but adding a lefty is a good thing who has been very good for a couple of years. Any word on the 40 man move with it?
  19. What if they do this AND trade for someone like Cease? Would that change your mind?
  20. I’d be all for this to be honest, at least in some capacity. I have a hard time seeing Casas being worth either Ober or Ryan alone, but maybe they have another piece or two to attach to Casas that we would like? I’d at least be open to it
  21. So Dan was on Foul Territory today, a youtube show. I thought it was a good segment. Just sharing the link. His spot starts about the 48.50 mark give or take. He doesn't think it's likely the Twins get Cease, but he thinks it's something they should do.
  22. Only commenting to say that Zebby and Festa and SWR and possibly even Morris are all likely to produce the same that Paddack will in 2025, if not out produce. The twins do have starting pitching depth, and that’s a good thing. If they are bringing in a starting pitcher, I want it at or near the top of the rotation, not the back. Trading off Paddack to get salary to help with a different position or two on the roster is ok. They already have starting pitching depth to cover what Paddack would give as far as production
  23. I'd be curious if this means there would be MORE to spend (than 5 million) if they were to trade Paddack (for example) in a salary dump? My guess is the 5 million more to spend is if they don't sell off anyone at this point, right?
  24. He is only like 4 months older, and he does have strikeout stuff. But I like SWR to start the year more for sure
