  1. Yes, Buxton had the walk out HR, great. But the one that broke the pitcher's back was Arraez. What a tough out he is! The guy was throwing really good pitches to him, and in the end, he was on base.
  2. I think these losses are going to cost a lot. and they might define the season. I remember in 2019 it was the reverse. We were neck and neck with Cleveland, and we went there, sweep them in Cleveland, and never look back. Here we were ahead, and now drop 2 winnable games, and they are ahead with all the momentum. It will depend on how our club responds next week in Cleveland, although with the state of our bullpen (Duran, mind you, he is a rookie, and who else?) I don't have a lot of confidence.
  3. One thing nobody commented, is that our defense was terrible last night. A pitcher like Smeltzer can't survive that. Clutch hitting comes and goes, But the defense is something that they have to clean up.
  4. I am cautiously hopeful. During this rough patch of our schedule, with all thehealth issues, especially in the pitching side, we are still ahead by 2 games. And also considering that it was a relatively easy part of Cleveland schedule. Now the schedule for them gets harder and we are starting to get back to health. More crucially, we are getting a lot of games against them. If they cannot beat us head to head, then we can breath more easily. Now, if they win sreies against us, then we are in trouble.
  5. What surprised me is that Rocco left Ryan there that long. It was obvious that velocity was going down, and it is known that the last thing to come after Covid is the stamina. Rocco usually is blamed for removing his starters too quickly. Not this time
  6. Right now, the Twins are putting on the field something close to a AAA team, and it is showing. Injuries and COVID are taking its toll. I hope its get better, but also the schedule is getting tougher.
  7. I was watching the game today, and all of a sudden everything got a 2021 taste. Unreliable pitching, defensive blunders and COVID related issues. I hope it changes soon.
  8. "MLB is clear on this point: If there isn’t a deal by Monday, games will be cancelled and will not be made up. The season will be less than 162 games and players will not be paid for a full season, no matter what". I don't know about this. If the games are not played because the owners don't allow the players to play, I think a good lawyer could argue that since it is not their fault, they still should be paid. But I am not a good lawyer, so there goes my argument.
  9. True, but since the owners declared the lockout (not the players), shouldn't be reasonable to expect that they iniciatethe proposals again?
  10. One thing that could be done is if your team looses an average of, let's say, more than 90 games in 5 years, it is out of MLB, and some other team is created. A relegation system of sorts. For those not aware of it, when there is relegation there is as much drama at the bottom of the standing as there is at the top.
  11. I would put more emphasis in his injuries if they were something chronic, like Donaldson calves. But in case of Buxton they were more freak things than anything else. So, nobody knows the future, but, to put an example, the possibility of him breaking his toe again is not greater than any other player. Sure, probably injury history can be used in negotiations, but up to a point.
  12. What happenned with Kepler. I think I heard in the broadcast that his departure was COVID related. Was it so? I hope he is OK and didn't spread to others.
  13. Thank you. I was not saying that throwing sliders hurt your fingers, I was more on your line, that sometimes adding a pitch that you are not used to, even if the pitch is efective, can lead to strains because you haven't mastered it yet.
  14. Given the horrible, really bad 2021 that he had, anything could be an improvement for Dobnak. So, I say him. Related to that. In spring training, they say he had come up with a new slider that was really good. Soon after he went down with the injury to his finger and never really recover. A question for those who know about pitchin. Could it be that the slider was really good at the beginning, but it was putting additional strain on his finger, and after a while the finger got hurt with the consequences that we've seen?
  15. I wouldn't worry too much about the ACL injury by itself. Soccer players come back from ACL all the time, in a sport that twisting on the knees is essential, and with plenty of contact in the area. Sure, he probably will be rusty at the beggining, and probably will not play his best SS intially. But I would bet that he can come back from this.
  16. Because the game at that point was already 11-4 and you want Buxton to finish the year healthy under all circumstances.
  17. The article is well reasoned. But many times we are overthinking this things. Every year teams that are supposed to be "contenders" fall flat (our beloved Twins are the example this year), and teams that come out of nowhere end up contending (Washington 2 years ago, last year Tampa, this year Giants). So, for next year, try to assemble the best team you can and see what happens. What I agree, don't waste your time and money with bad retreads for the rotation. We have enough internal candidates for that. One or 2 really good ones for the rotation and that's it.
  18. I am no medical expert, but a young guy that was thrwing 93-95 2 years ago, and now can't get 90? I think that shoulder might be in pretty bad shape.
  19. A question regarding Enlow: "However, he will miss a good chunk of next season — if not the entire season — after undergoing Tommy John surgery earlier this summer. While that may seem to disqualify him from Rule 5 consideration, a team could select Enlow and easily keep him on the 60-day IL for the entire season. Doing so would save his 40-man roster spot for another athlete and effectively eliminate the chance for Enlow to be returned to the Twins". Can the Twins do the same? That is, putting him in the 40-man roster, and immediately transfer him to the 60-day list?
  20. Right now, for next year rotation is only Maeda. I think they will bring a couple of free agents, so there will be 2 spots available next year. As of now the one that looks better positioned to take advantage of the opportunity is Ober. Then I think the second spot is close: Jax, Barnes, Thorpe?, one of the new guys? That is an interesting race to see till the end of the season. (I don't put Balazovich, Duran and the other younger guys because I don't think they will be ready at the beggining of next season, but I might be wrong)
  21. Normally it is not. But when you look at how those runs came, and how this looks for Ober as a futute possible starter, it was solid. He gave those HR and practically nothing else. I prefer to see that of a rookie than an outing where he gets shelled and because of luck he gives only one run or two. Sure, the best is that the pitcher does not give anything. But that seldom happens, especially with a rookie.
  22. Nice victory all around. But you know a thing that I really liked? The safety squeeze executed to perfection by Simmons. We've seen this year so many bungled plays that seeing that executed so well was very nice.
  23. Can somebody remind me what are the rules for the September call-ups now? I know last year changed but I don't remember what changes were for just last year, and what changes stayed. How many players can be called-up? Thanks
  24. For a moment I got scared that he was writing about me. Then I saw that the guy retweets. No, that is too much technology for me. Phew!
