  1. Setting aside all of the back-and-forth that comes with opinions about COVID vaccination, I'm hoping that these roster additions all have a great series and show that they belong up (or back) at MLB. I'm maybe most curious about Hamilton.
  2. I went to rural Iowa for a little over a week, with no wireless and spotty cell service. When I left, the team was on a six game winning streak. I come back and find that we can't beat the Detroit Tigers and Chi Chi Gonzalez is our next starter. WHAT HAPPENED, gang??? Nevermind. It's Minnesota sports, I can guess what happened. Buxton cursed? Rotation abducted by aliens? New clubhouse intern replaced the wood bats with yellow whiffle bats? I'm sure it's something bad.
  3. Six game (or more) winning streaks are a rare treat for a fan - and we have two already. Love it. Keep banking these first-half wins, fellas.
  4. Sadly, I think Donaldson deflated his club and stirred up the CWS at the exact wrong time for us. Thanks a lot, Josh. We could've been six games up by now. So far, the WAR story says the Yankees won this trade. But I really enjoy having Sanchez and Urshela on this team, and I think they will both help with a WC run. Maybe even an AL Central title run. Bring on the Yankees series. Let's see what we've got.
  5. I agree with this completely, and I give them that credit. We are again a contender for the AL Central. That's not nothing, I agree. But there's more to prove. This isn't a "what have you done for me lately" - it's putting the bar in an appropriate spot. If they field a team that wins a WC spot or the Central, sure, lean towards an extension. If their team wins a playoff game, lean very heavily that way. If they win the AL, give them the keys to the city. If they win the World Series, rename the state Falvine.
  6. I'm not going to boo you, I'm just going to point to the calendar. And to their playoff record. And to a list of trades and free agent signings that were terrible. If the teams they put together could even just take a game from the likes of the Astros, Dodgers or Yankees, I might let this unbridled optimism pass. But it's May, and they haven't beat a single big dog yet. We'll see. my friend.
  7. Well, they've had injuries, they've had a COVID outbreak, and they're still in first place. There's some real depth and resilience there. But they're going to need to improve. I still think the White Sox are much better than a .500 team, and they'll likely be aggressive at the trade deadline. If the Twins don't win the division, a WC spot isn't guaranteed. All in all, this season has been a lot of fun so far. I tip my cap to them for turning things around so quickly. Those who defended the team despite the 2021 mess should feel pretty darn good at this point.
  8. I really appreciate that this team is consistently and actively hunting for in-game advantages. They use their weapons. I applaud the shift-busting singles, too.
  9. Good stuff with solid rationale. Personally, I would probably put PNC, Camden and Target Field ahead of Busch Stadium, but there are still many other ballparks I haven't seen firsthand.
  10. You're making a ton a good points in your posts, but, yes, even one win to break the 0-18 streak would have meant a lot. 1-5 is bad, but even that low bar would represent progress to an understandably weary fanbase. Is that entirely fair to Rocco? Nope. Is life fair? Also nope.
  11. The postseason W drought is having an impact here, I think. It does on me as well.
  12. Nick's Mark Antony defense speech for Caesar. I dig it. On the plus side, Rocco respects the game and the people involved in it. He's not a showboat. He does his job with diligence and treats people with dignity. the Twins have bounced back from a terrible season nicely. Rocco's ability to connect with and respect the players was cited by Correa as a reason to come here. All of that is clearly in his favor. However ... his outcomes so far fall short of what anyone could call greatness. He can keep a team together very well over a long season, but when the pressure's on, whether in the playoffs or in a regular series with the big boys of MLB, the results just aren't there. I'm not sure if it's his fault, but he hasn't yet helped his team make it happen. There appears to be something missing when a burst of toughness is needed from this team. Has he earned some slack? Yes. I think he and the FO have. I've dialed my criticisms way down. BUT, I don't blame the skeptics out there. There's another level for this team to unlock, and if he can't do it, it's reasonable to demand that someone else try.
  13. Slow your roll there, partner. My GUESS was that Rocco was trying to be strategic about where/when to use Buxton. Rocco's own comments seemed to refute this, indicating that Buxton's knee soreness made him a non-option for yesterday. So there we all have it. No need to dial this up into the code-red outrage zone where dogs and cats live together and Jeffers comes out of the pen as a set-up man - the world's got plenty of that nonsense already. ?
  14. It is confusing, yes. But I think Buxton is injured. He seemed very defensive about his earlier hip soreness, and I think they're taking it very slow. His pre-game hitting regimen seems pretty involved, and it helps him ramp up. When Buxton has an off day, he has an off day. Full stop. A quick jump into the lineup won't work for his health. I can see fans not liking, not agreeing with, or not understanding that approach, but I don't think Buxton will ever play more than 90 games a season. I think his contract is even structured to reflect this, He's had a career's worth of injuries, and those injuries are literally the only reason he's still a Minnesota Twin. I think we all have to accept that at this point. On the plus side, we have a great chance of winning in those 90 games. On the negative side, we're going to have games like this - where he could possibly have been the difference maker and wasn't available. As for me? It's May. We had Smeltzer going against Bieber with no Correa. I think this one was pre-tagged for an L, and I'm glad we were able to make it close. Let's move on.
  15. Yes, but I think Correa is past his option years, so that'll make the demotion difficult. Oh, wait, you meant Lewis. What a good problem to have. Lewis has to feel good about about his debut. He's probably made it clear to the FO that Correa is here just for a year. And any INF injury should see him back here soon.
  16. I should be more upset about a nasty sweep like this, but I'm not. Overmatched and outgunned. Just like when LA came to town, now they know how they stack up against the top squads - at least when not at full strength. Make adjustments, keep the ship pointed at .500 by July 1 and see what happens.
  17. This is exactly where I'm at. I think the bumps are to be expected. Unwise to expect 100 games from Buxton, and Miranda and Lewis are just getting their feet wet, and injuries might just do us in, but a lot of young players are learning in the right environment. At max, I see this team regrouping and contending for a WC spot. BUT, the offense is an issue, and the bottom could drop out with just a few more injuries. Kinda wish I had a crystal ball.
  18. Completely agree. I'm sure he'll have some rookie bumps, but his ability to step into the SS role for a first-place team (filling the shoes of a possible HOFer, no less) right after returning to pro ball is a testament to his talent and character. Lewis is the definition of a winner.
  19. I'm maybe more impressed with this W than any of the others so far. Buxton, Correa, Arraez out, Paddack injured early, A's take an early lead and they just fought back and then held the line. I'm not convinced we're going to end up ahead of Chicago when all is said and done, but I love the fight in this young team. They are forcing wins to happen. They are building a culture of winning. That has been my dream for this club for awhile.
  20. 2 games. 3 runs. Two wins. Baseball is a fickle game, friends. Glad it's leaning our way more often lately. Go Twins. Oh, and I've had some truly bad Twins takes over the years, but my "why would anyone think Griffin Jax would make a good reliever" is shaping up to be one of the worst. Good for Captain Jax, I salute him.
  21. I heard that too. Darn jinxers. Well, they're probably not a .625 team and they're probably not a .333 team. These past two days are a bit like the Oakland COVID lump games from 2021. Ugly and draining, but there's a lotta baseball left. Try to play .500 baseball this month and keep on chugging ahead. Here's hoping Correa is okay within a few weeks.
  22. Twins baseball is fun again. Like, so much fun. I feel like I did as a kid in 1991 listening to these games. Let's keep it going.
  23. I get what you're saying, but I think these folks are trying to show that even an out is sometimes indicative that a guy is getting (or is still) locked in, and that good things are happening with his swing. That gives me hope that the next one goes over the OF's head. Like you, I'd rather have any kind of hit than a loud out, but I like knowing that a player's bat is hot.
