  1. Here is my latest effort: Rarity of 9–all players played for the Twins in addition to the two teams in the grid.
  2. I was in my car in the middle innings when Castro was on second, Julien on first with one out when Kirilloff hit a ball the fell in front of the left fielder, but Julien was forced out. Was that a mistake by Julien or just one of those things. If Julien gets to second, it is bases loaded with one out.
  3. The Twins remain closer to Houston (2nd seed) than they do to Cleveland. Magic number is now 12.
  4. After a game like this for López, he shouldn't feel bad about a "five and fly" victory later this year.
  5. The offense gets another chance. I thought López was done after seven.
  6. Time to get Pablo a well deserved win.
  7. Is he a better option than Stevenson as a pinch runner and defensive replacement? I honestly don't think so. I certainly don't see him as a better option than Willi Castro, so I think that if the Twins can push his rehab beyond the regular season and he's an extra guy in case of injury, that would be best for the team. The team is mentioning three players as possibilities to be activated off the 60-day IL--Stewart, Paddack, and Gordon--all three upon completing their rehab stints would have to take a 40-man roster spot as well. I don't believe Alcalá was ever officially placed on the 60-day list, but he's also rehabbing with an eye toward being activated. Finding guys to move in order to have room for one, two or maybe three guys on the 40-man roster might be a problem. One solution would be to put Buxton on the 60-day list and I wouldn't be surprised if that happens eventually. Another solution would be to DFA Gallo or Luplow, but I think Luplow has a place on a postseason roster in the mind of the front office.
  8. I’m bumping this because the lead is now a little larger and there are twenty games to go. Cleveland won three of six total when they needed to win at least five of six. I think postseason plans should now be the top priority. If 10 days off would significantly improve his sore foot, Correa should go on the Injured List. Gray and López don’t need to go that extra inning at this point and guys like Michael A Taylor should be working back to be ready the last week or so before the first round.
  9. He will have some cold spells, and I would be surprised to see his BA stay above .300, but he has a great approach going right now. I hope he can continue at close to this clip and especially be so good in high leverage situations.
  10. It looks like Herbie pictures will have to be replaced on the Magic Number Thread. Angels up 6-2, bottom of 8.
  11. I would submit that a problem with Gordon as a utility player is that he's not a shortstop and stretched as a center fielder. His best defensive position is left field and his next best is second base (maybe center field). He hit very well for half a season and if can replicate that he could help the Twins (or another team) in 2024.
  12. Ober was on the bump for the Saints today. 5 innings of one-run ball in Louisville.
  13. The top two posts were referring to Gallo. Richie was referring to Gordon. I do agree that Nick would get a major league contract if the team did DFA him. Gallo, not so much.
  14. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Twins kept Gallo around until the end of the regular season as long as they don’t have to DFA someone. They have to pay him regardless and if there is a spate of injuries, Joey will play. With only 28 active roster spots, the Twins have to move people around from the minors and the Injured List. Depending on their recoveries, they have at least three guys on the 60-day list that they would have to add to the 40-man as well as the active roster. This stuff fascinates me. They well might DFA Stevenson just to make space for Paddack or Stewart.
  15. If Taylor is healthy, Stevenson has no place on a postseason roster. Adding Gordon this late in the season really makes no sense. As a last guy on the bench I’d rather add Stevenson anyway. He is faster and better defensively.
  16. Reality is that teams very seldom have everyone going good. Rookies Julien and Wallner have cooled right now while other guys have warmed up. Aside from his batting average, Wallner's numbers look good right now, but if the slump (and the Ks) continue, he might find somebody else playing left field. Maeda is certainly not as sharp as he was when he returned from the IL. He is on the outside looking in to get a start in postseason, but he does have experience out of the 'pen. I hope he throws zero high leverage innings in the first round, but every inning could be important.
  17. Uh-huh, but Nick Gordon's way to make the Twins next year will be to be a significantly better hitter than Willi Castro. Castro is younger, faster, more versatile and switch hits. He is hands down the better fit for an occasional starter and fill in around the field. Gordon would have to win a hitting battle with many to get time as a platoon outfielder. There are several second basemen on the roster, so his ability to man that position is of pretty low value. Unless the Twins strip away their current outfield depth, Nick has to get past Kepler, Wallner, Larnach, and perhaps Austin Martin. I think Gordon is a major league player and I think he can help a lot of teams. Despite his value not being what it was at the end of '22, I think it is best for him and his current team to part ways after this season.
  18. This is the most optimistic I've been about the lineup. Lewis is special, Kepler is good, lots of guys can go deep. I'm not satisfied with Luplow as a lefty killer, but Farmer and Solano are competent bats, especially against left handed pitching. Correa seems to be getting more good swings and Polanco and is professional hitter. The top three starters can slow even a high-powered lineup and the bullpen is coming around with some injured talent perhaps ready to add value. Outside of Buxton, this club looks like they will have their best health at the end of the season.
  19. The Angels have already won a game against Cleveland. Hard to expect much more from what is left in their lineup and pitching staff. They do get to hit against Giolito tonight. It will depend on whether any of their stars come back when the Twins play them later, but if their best two hitters are Grichuk and Escobar, the Twins should at least two or all three at Target Field.
  20. Eight over .500. Another day that the best Cleveland can do is stay at 6.5 back in the standings.
  21. I googled the vest. Pablo bought it and the fishing pole on May 1.
  22. From what I can see, it’s Castro’s first homer since June 4. I don’t think Pablo bought the vest until later in the month.
  23. Willi! It’s been a while. Is this his first time in the fishing vest?
  24. 855 ft. of long ball in the eighth. This puts the game in a save situation.
