  1. It looks like there is a lot of rain in the forecast. Is there a possibility that the game gets rained out?
  2. Correa needs to step it up to his career norms for the last quarter of the season. Buxton needs to hit or not be on the active roster. The Twins have a bunch of DHs. Putting an underperforming Buxton there hurts in that an inferior defensive player has to play in the field.
  3. I don't know how much anyone playing for the Saints right now will impact the current Twins season, but several players (Severino, Kiersey, Lee, Larnach, Martin, Varland, Woods Richardson and Funderburk) really impact 2024.
  4. Meanwhile, the sacks are juiced for Willi Castro. A hit to the outfield would be large right here.
  5. Gordon hit well the second half of 2022. We've seen Willi Castro for two-thirds of a season and he hasn't hit league average in that span. However, Willi does most everything else better than Gordon. Willi is a better and more versatile defender and a real threat on the bases and he's a switch hitter without big platoon splits.
  6. Wouldn’t the next guy up otherwise have been Larnach?
  7. Gallo is currently the only LH hitter who can play first base. He is there in the lineup today. Sad to see Stewart go on the 60-day IL. I would not count on any more from him this year. As for Luplow, yeah he's Kyle Garlick. Don't hate the move, but it isn't going to solve most of the Twins' problems.
  8. Almost every player is playing with some nagging injury by now. Joe Ryan tried to continue despite a groin strain, Kirilloff tried to play with a shoulder injury and I suspect Correa has played all year with back and foot issues. When does an annoyance become an injury? Over and over, we seem to only find out when the player can no longer continue. Anthony Rizzo kept playing for more than two months and is now diagnosed with a concussion.
  9. Congratulations to Sonny Gray. Three months without winning a decision is a long time. He had a lot of good outings mixed in, but finally got a "W".
  10. Picking up that service time one day at a time.
  11. Would anyone be opposed to sending Ryan to St. Paul for two weeks? Perhaps give him one start with a week of rest and plan to bring him back after the minimum amount of games. That would give the Twins the opportunity to see what Keuchel has left.
  12. Tough year for Hendriks.
  13. Are there any seats left on the Wallner bandwagon? I’m in.
  14. Rating pitchers is hard to do. I think, all in all, López is the Twins' #1 starter, although it is close. The ERA is high, but the underlying numbers are better.
  15. Because he owns a first baseman's mitt and Alex Krilloff can't swing a bat right now.
  16. I probably should have edited my original post. The Twins' official site did update Gordon's status yesterday, pretty much what was written by cbssports.com. It looks like a September 1 activation to me, unless injuries open a spot on the roster earlier.
  17. The news yesterday that both Alex Kirilloff and Brock Stewart underwent MRIs brings back flashbacks of last year to me. Kirilloff wasn’t expected to go the IL and then was thought to be on the list for the minimum 10 days. Now it looks like a much longer duration on the list with the possibility that things might be even more serious. Most expected Stewart back by now and his arm injury is lingering. The prognosis for others on the Il range from pretty positive (Lewis) to radio silence (Miranda, Alcalá, Gordon). How many of these guys will see the field this year?
  18. Two K C solo homers and a Twin being thrown out at the plate.
  19. They need to fine-tune the plate-blocking rule.
  20. A good gamble with the #8 hitter due up.
  21. I'm encouraged by Wallner's major league at-bats this year, but I'm not altogether sure that that he won't slump to Gallo (or at least Larnach) levels. I am sure that Wallner is an awkward outfielder at this stage and that Kepler would make defensive plays that Wallner cannot. I don't see any club that is trying to make the postseason counting on a Wallner type down the stretch, especially a team with as inconsistent of an offense as the Twins possess.
  22. Here's my opinion(s): 1) Gallo would bring back nothing of value. The choice is whether to keep him on the team or DFA him. I say DFA. 2) Kepler has value, but he is probably worth more to the Twins than any other team, so he stays. The big question that will probably be determined by August and September production, is whether the Twins will pick up his option for 2024. 3) Wallner is less than a year younger than Larnach and has only 127 plate appearances in the majors, but he shows more upside (particularly power) than Larnach. 4) Larnach has nearly 700 major league plate appearances and has failed to establish himself as a major league regular. He's shown enough to interest other teams, particularly rebuilding teams, and is the logical choice to be traded for someone who can help the club this year. If I'm the Twins FO, I would DFA Gallo (swing and a miss on that signing), trade Larnach for the best relief pitcher or RH hitting outfielder they can find and put Byron Buxton on the IL.
  23. With Polanco being activated while the Twins are in Missouri, and with two off days in the next week or so, it might be a perfect time to go with twelve pitchers.
  24. I am not so optimistic that Trevor Larnach will succeed as a major league player. The strikeouts are a problem and the power production thus far has been decidedly mediocre. He has shown flashes and he is still only 26, but to me that is where a guy moves out of the prospect category to something else. He certainly hasn't established himself as a major league regular. I wouldn't rule out Trevor becoming a solid regular, but I agree that now is the time to move him if they get a suitable return.
