Twins 5, Angels 0: It's So Not Joever
GNess replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not sure if it will be soon enough for the Twins to make a run at the division, but when Lewis, Keaschall and Wallner all return coupled with Correa, Buxton and Larnach hitting some the Twins lineup will be fairly formidable.- 30 replies

I know it's something of a dead horse, but some of these struggles are directly connected to the Twins lack of activity in the off season. They basically stood pat or worse added veteran players who haven't hit much in their careers. That approach limits the team to improving via a draft and develop mode. What top end hitter have the Twins promoted from within over the last five or so years?

Sad state of affairs for the Twins. Miranda is struggling and made a bone headed base running mistake and he gets sent down deservedly. Having to make those sort of decisions is a failure of the competitive culture Baldelli has overseen as manager. Lack of attention to detail being a recurring theme.

Joe Ryan has developed into an excellent SP. He likely still has some room to grow as well.

Twins 6, White Sox 1: Twins Bats Stay Hot To Win Series
GNess replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A sense of balance and perspective about the Twins potential may now be more possible based on these earliest of results. Good to see the team looking like they were enjoying themselves.- 44 replies

Aging Gracefully: How Buxton Retires a Minnesota Twin
GNess replied to Nate Palmer's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting question! One thought, if Buxton's production seriously declines as is possible what incentive and/or reasons would other MLB teams have to add him to their roster? Seems like there is a decent chance Buck's career ends in a Twins uniform.. -
First things first Paddock can be a boost to the Twins postseason aspirations if he pitches like he is capable prior to the deadline. If one or more between Festa, Morris, Matthews and/or Raya are deemed ready then the Twins should consider dealing Paddock from the surplus. Paddock shouldn't be moved just because he is a tradeable asset.

Lee will be on the roster opening day and he will play 2B and back up SS/3B. Defense matters and Lee has hit in the minors. Give him some time to adjust at the MLB level. Keaschall is still recovering from surgery so his timeline to resume playing in the field seems TBD. He seems to be a plus bat so the Twins will find a spot for him and it doesn't have to be Lee v Keaschall especially if they both hit. Julien doesn't seem to be in the mix despite his positive spring at the plate because his defense at 2B is just unacceptable.

The approach with Severinø is curious - not one AB in a spring game as noted in the article. There are numerous prospects who were able to get a few AB's and even a long shot retread like Ford has some AB's. If the Twins don't value Severino why is he on the St Paul roster? Why don't the Twins move on if he is held in such low regard? Is he injured or has a poor attitude?

Every team has some weaker areas, but I agree with Cory Correa, Buxton and Lewis should provide a lot of punch from the right side.

Clearly there is a surplus of options. Perhaps Spring Games and performances will solve the issue. Alcala most definitely has the stuff to be on the roster opening day.

Is the Ty France Deal Riskier Than It Seems for the Twins?
GNess replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
France will likely improve if healthy from last year's injury plagued season for him. I get the anxiety about Rocco's clinging to veterans even poor performing ones. If France is over used and under performing it still won't be an absolute disaster - having Correa out again for a long stretch or Royce Lewis playing in 2025 like he did the last two months of 2024 season - now those are examples of absolute disasters. I like Miranda a lot, but he has much to prove and there are DH at-bats and some turns at 3B and 1B if he is hitting - whi.ch I think he will. Julien in my mind has much still to prove, and may not even open the season with the Twins. -
Agreed - Severino has displayed some good power, is a switch hitter and plays 1B. He can play some OF too. I think if he has an impressive spring and/or hits at St Paul he may get a shot with the Twins at some point.

I think the Twins should think out of the box and play a first baseman at first base.

If Bader manages to hit with a bit of pop like Taylor did and plays a good CF this will prove to be a solid addition. I think the Twins are once again cobbling together a competitive team that can contend for the Division and/or a Wild Card Spot. As annoying as it is for them to wait so long to make moves. With the surplus arms in the BP and rotation I suspect a few more moves may be coming.
-
If you lock in a prospect's position too early then the team will have more prospects effectively blocked by players at the MLB level. It makes total sense to have players learn a few positions while in the minors as this gives them more pathways to MLB.

The so called Hybrid approach seems best if you have to choose. It is tough enough to find any quality starting pitchers let alone 6 of them who could be regularly counted upon. I do like reducing BP games if that is an effect.
