Your response is thoughtful and makes sense. Allow me a few counter points - plenty of teams performing below .500 don't trade away nearly 40% of their rosters. That has to raise some. eyebrows - no? The bottom line here is there will be a significant reduction in payroll with the roster filled with younger (read less expensive) players during this so called reset. I. suspect they aren't finished and the off season will see some more re-setting.

I have been a loyal Twins fan since 1966.and on balance enjoyed the experience despite the paucity of peaks (.87, 91) and too many valleys to note here. But a common theme has been ownership that rarely if ever demonstrates a true commitment to winning and excellence. Talk of 3-5 year re-builds rather than 1-2 year re-tools are just noise. Teams like the Twins often justify these self-inflicted valleys for baseball reasons and a stronger future, but in reality it's almost always driven by financial desires/directives about money. I have reached a place as a fan that I accept that reality, but I sure as heck don't have to pretend to like it.

The Twins Finally Picked a Lane
GNess replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The FO assembled the team they just dismantled. If it is some sort of admission of failure there needs to be accountability for said failure. That falls primarily on the FO. They shouldn't get a "do-over" opportunity. It should also be mentioned that some of the trades made such as dealing away Varland seem to contradict a reset mode by surrendering a young,, quality RP who they could control through 2030 apparently - so even young talent was sacrificed by this reckless tear it all down approach. Picked a lane? The Twins just went off the road and into a ditch filled with unproven, inexperienced players to run out there for the foreseeable future. Sad.- 301 replies

I think it is an unfair characterization to label Abel a "4th" starter at this point.

I don't know much about the Phillies prospects the Twins got for Duran, but it seems a bit light but not just totally lopsided against the Twins.

The first issue to consider is how long before new ownership. emerges and takes control? If it's imminent then sure put a hold on things for now and let new owners decide the direction. But if this process takes us well into next season and beyond it would be irresponsible for the Twins to forego participating in a key opportunity to improve their roster and future. (Trades at deadline.) Falvey is presently in-charge so while my confidence is not super high Falvey has to be a MLB FO executive and make executive decisions.

Gabriel Gonzalez is a Great Hitter, but It Might not Matter
GNess replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Twins fan culture. Find a dark cloud in a silver lining whenever possible. -
Buxton wow! Great to see him dominating games in multiple phases. Just a touch bittersweet to consider what his career could have been had he stayed relatively healthy.

The almost daily disappointment watching the Twins find a way to lose and look bad in doing so for big chunks of the season for now. going on two seasons clearly suggests system-wide organizational failure. The Twins are performing in a dysfunctional manner that likely can't self-correct. It's going to require some significant changes.

Brooks Lee’s Recent Hot Streak Is Not What It Seems
GNess replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, I get it Lee is unlikely to hit .350 for the remainder of the season. What MLB players are able to put up those kind of numbers for a season? Despite that somewhat obvious conclusion I am going to enjoy Lee's streak as it unfolds. -
Is Kody Clemens Turning Back into a Pumpkin?
GNess replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He has already contributed to some wins in a manner no one could have anticipated. That's reason alone to be grateful for him. Yes, he may be regressing, but his on-going results could be better than his historical numbers which might keep him on the roster. -
The Twins need to demonstrate some patience. Yes, Lee is going through some growing pains and Lewis has been horrific at the plate. However, these two were blue chip prospects and have flashed considerable and unmistakeable talent. There is a good chance one or both get on track. France has been pretty good, maybe better than many expected, but agreed the typical set up at 1B requires more offense and some power. Might not Keaschall be a potential solution to adding some punch at 1B or to the line up in general when he returns in a few weeks? This is not to say if a possible deal to upgrade the offense emerges the Twins shouldn't act. Just let's give this some more time before potentially jettisoning two (Lee and Lewis) out of the equation.

Pablo's time off will test the Twins SP depth, but this is a common issue (injuries) that true contenders are able to work their way through successfully. I suspect they'll be able to remain in the race until Pablo returns to health and the rotation.

Certainly each situation and circumstances are unique, but there is a pattern here of not putting employees' well-being into the equation, normally due to a focus on the bottom line. The Twins don't have to do this - they are choosing to do things this way. Feeling sincerely valued and respected at work may elude a lot of people, but it shouldn't be the case if the employer/organization seeks optimal performance, which typically arises when people (employees) are valued and respected.

The Minnesota Twins Pitching Staff Is a Buzzsaw
GNess replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Positive take for sure, but here are some potential Twins issues to keep an eye on:: - Will Paddack continue to pitch well? - Will Buxton and Wallner return healthy and pick up where they left off? - Will Lewis rediscover his bat?- 35 replies

People are going to experience being a fan from their own perspective - let's face it some folks would rather be critics than fans and that's ok if it works for them. I am generally an optimist about the Twins fortunes, and I am sure some people find objection to that as a pollyannish outlook. Attendance at games for the most part are reflections of the perceptions of the team's quality of play, historical success rate and chances to win in the current season. I am not sure "disdain for the owners" is a major factor in attendance figures. Many owners of professional franchises are out of touch with the average person and dissatisfaction with the manner in which they operate the team is common. It's not just a Twins/Pohlad problem.

Isn't it possible that underlying metrics can skew the perception of the actual outcomes? Paddack could be having an outlier performance that will defy the analytics - that's certainly a possibility. Paddack is a veteran pitcher who through experience and actual competitive grit may be performing better at key moments which lead to nice results. Grit is an actual thing even if it can't be quantified. I am going to appreciate his success as a 4th-5th starter to date.

Perhaps as a temporary transition going les than 100% makes some sense for Royce Lewis or any other player with a significant injury history. However, competing demands an all-out effort and extending to your physical limits often. If Lewis can't get to that threshold he will never be the player he is projected to be and in fact will not produce consistently. The game is too difficult to play it at 75%.

How Good Has Twins First Baseman Ty France Been So Far?
GNess replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is a question of frame of reference - France is a good signing for the price paid. To me that just tacitly supports a culture of frugality in a sport where more aggressive spending is the more likely path to success. I prefer a frame of reference where the signing of Correa is embraced as a franchise serious about competing. The Twins have signed both players obviously, but France's signing is more indicative of the Twins approach to roster building and management. -
Clemens looks pretty solid. It is at least possible that things are coming together for him as a player. He has never had 200 ABs in a season. (Yes, he has to earn those ABs.) If given a shot who knows? He might stick on the roster even when the injured start to return.

SWR definitely needs to wrk through some things before he can be trusted again as a SP in MLB. Bullpen may be in his future as with many failed Starters the change might provide a solid MLB career. Festa to pitch Sunday for the Twins?
