  1. Arizona hasn't helped him remember. Not even thin air at AAA Reno has put a charge back into his bat. Up to age 22 his minor league record suggested he would be a hitter, but apparently some hole in his game got exposed and he's never compensated - low outside strikes if Fangraphs' heatmap is to be taken at face value.
  2. Astudillo scoring from first on a double. "The most exciting two minutes in sports," as they say. As a catcher, I do NOT block the plate against that runner, if the ball comes to me. "The tally is yours, good sir!"
  3. OK, so the point being that EE hits in the majors like a subpar AAA first-baseman, but we still love him?
  4. Long time caller, first time listener, here. What's your prediction for the tonight's final score? I'll hang up and ignore.
  5. Not unheard of, but when it happens it makes news, which is maybe why you notice. Looking right now, there are 8 players in their age 19 or age 20 seasons in the majors at some point this season. Juan Soto plays for the Nationals. The other 7 play/pitch for Atlanta. Take that for what it's worth. But it's not some universal thing "other teams" are doing constantly.
  6. Yes. Who's on first trimester.
  7. I posted moderator's warnings on some of them, but they are awaiting moderation.
  8. To me, the way to evaluate such a draft is say that after pick #1, you are in essence drafting at the bottom of the order with the successful teams like the Cubs. Set that #1 pick aside and judge compared to those teams. It's still way early but I think in that light, the 2017 draft looks OK.
  9. I bet there's a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth over on Diamondbacks Daily about the one who got away.
  10. His first walk-off! Oh wait, wrong thread. Anyway, I can tell you're a good dad. Raising him right.
  11. ... which nobody expected! ("Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear, and surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope")
  12. I loved that at bat. Didn't bite on the junk pitch on 0-0, was ready when a hittable pitch came.
  13. That blast by Mondesi off of Littell didn't leave enough doubt to suit me.
  14. I can answer any question. "I don't know" is an answer.
  15. It's uncertain whether major league talent evaluators really believe Astudillo looks like a catcher when he's behind the plate, but he certainly does when running down the first base line legging out a grounder.
  16. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it was a late-August trade.
  17. It's early, but so far I'm enjoying watching our starting pitcher, Chase DeFourseamer.
  18. I keep hearing about Kepler taking consistently good at bats, but that one in the second inning wasn't too good at all.
  19. I've described him before as "quiet" behind the plate, which I take to be a very good trait, although by itself not sufficient for anything.
  20. If this is still in response to my stated hope for specifics down in the minors, I don't expect anyone in the organization to say anything, either. This thread is in response to an outsider's view of things; I'm hoping that someone closely observing one or more minor league teams has noticed some trends.
  21. Hey, no spoilers, please.
