    Okay, you buy the premise, but you take issue with a bit of hyperbole I offered (and "possible", not "probable", at that) in order to make the point. If perhaps a team in desperate need would take Lynn off our hands without our even needing to cover part of the salary, that is still a far cry from him being a significant trading chip to acquire someone that fills a need of our own.

    29 other teams had a chance to sign him. The Twins made the best offer. He's off to a mediocre start. No one gives up much to get some of that. It's possible no one takes him on even if he were waived, at least until pennant races get clarified a little.

    But, decline the option, and then re-sign him on amicable terms for a lower amount? I'd still see the Twins as a likely landing spot for him as a free agent.

    To my simple understanding, the key for the changeup is to have the delivery be indistinguishable from the fastball, and second is maintaining command, so if there's any risk of him tipping the pitch or losing location in the process of trying to make it be "better", I'd say leave it alone.

    Which works out to something under 3 cents for every man, woman and child in the country. Three cents here, and three cents there, for this program and that, and pretty soon you're talking about a whole dollar. All in all, there are other reasons to debate this military policy than monetary.

    That's fair. All the wins count. It's just... for me... this team has playoff aspirations. When they get to the post-season, the opponents won't hand them gifts like the White Sox just got done doing. If they are fortunate enough to get there, doing it this way will likely mean a one-and-done. I'll feel better when they clobber the bottom feeders, and reserve the squeaker wins for against the good teams. Even better will be when the good teams are happy to get the squeaker win.
