I like your article Cody, in how you also added optimism along with your disappointments. But in your statement about Kiriloff. "Offensively, he struggled to find the swing that had made him one of the organization’s top prospects." To start the season Kiriloff was our top hitter until he got hurt, which correlates to when he started his slump. So he had found his swing, the problem was that he was put in a situation to get hurt & never said anything (which IMO understandable). So the solution isn't him getting his swing back it's keeping him healthy after the ordeal he has been put through. Put him at 1B/DH & keep him there as originally planned. I don't get the pessimism.

Minnesota Veterans Making Front Office Look Great
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Whether 1B production across the league is down or not doesn't concern me. I still hold Santana to the standard & his production doesn't come close to Miranda's or Kiriloff's before he got hurt. The fact that 1B production is down across the league only aids us because 1Bmen are in demand so contenders & wannabes are looking for them. I'd be a good opportunity to trade Santana & come out ahead.- 121 replies

Minnesota Veterans Making Front Office Look Great
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Bingo! This year, what have we gained? Margot? We had plenty of depth before we signed him & Keirsey is still sitting in AAA long overdue for his call-up. Margot isn't quality depth. CF backup, we have Castro, Martin & Keirsey all much better than Margo. Santana? 1B is a production primary/ defense optional position; up the middle defense is primary/ production is the cherry on top. Santana, overall production falls short of what a 1Bman should be & is expected to regress. Miranda has much better production with Julien, Kiriloff & MLB-ready Severino as back up. With all the acquisitions mentioned we gained nothing as far as needed depth or added production over their in-house options. What have we lost? 1st the money that was spent for not going with in-house young players. Money could be spent on a player we really need. 2nd playing time for Miranda, Martin, Kiriloff, Keirsey & Severino to get their feel for playing in the MLB & master their positions. 3rd Lost production from Kiriloff. During the offseason, it was said that they were going to limit his duties to only 1B/ DH to keep him healthy. Due to Santana playing 1B, leaving Kiriloff to play a more physically demanding position, resulting him to hurt his back & put a halt to his prosperous start. Future, we lost the experience to build upon for the future success of our young players. Margot & Santana took from these guys & we lost our best future Correa replacement in GG Noah Miller, Again at a premium position SS, glove is primary, production is the cherry on top. So again grading these FO's offseason moves is failure. Because it did nothing to meet our real needs & made us weaker in other areas.- 121 replies

I'm very happy that Castro got the well-deserved experience of being an All-Star. IMO they should have a super-utility selection in the ASG, much like they have in Silver Slugger & GG. IMO Castro would unbiasedly win but AS selection is 100% biased. I credit Castro as being the anchor after all the holes that had to be filled due to many injuries at one time. He filled them admirably & kept us from going too far adrift, making it much more difficult to get back on course.

5 First Half Surprises for the Minnesota Twins
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
These guys were surprises because they were given the chance & I'd put All-Star Castro on that list. IMO there are more surprises out there if given sufficient opportunities.- 16 replies

I just had plantar fasciitis. I think in most cases it's improper footwear (proper depends on the person). I love to walk & resisted giving it up but when I decided to give it a rest for a couple of days & added the proper footwear it cleared up. I'm not an expert & IDK what is proper footwear for Correa is & I'm sure what Correa's heels go through is much more intense beating than what I've experienced but I'm of the opinion that it's very treatable especially caught early.

I don't put much stock in launch angle & exit velo as any indication of luck. What they attribute as luck is the ability to spray the ball around the field & one who hit the ball hard & the inability to do so is unlucky. Many also attribute luck with winning one-run games. Winning one-run games is due to having hitters who can hit in the clutch (which is an ability) & not strike out. What I contribute to CLE success isn't luck but the ability to stick with their youth & not getting sucked into the "all or nothing" mentality, even though they've had rotten luck with injuries to their rotation. All that said, I still believe that MN has a good chance to pass up CLE. #1 IMO we have better players #2 we ditched the "all or nothing" approach, We put Larnach, Wallner & Julien in AAA to reset. Larnach started last year so he's the 1st back doing well, now Wallner & soon Julien. Hopefully, they don't regress to old habits. It also depends on the development of our young players, Unlike CLE, injuries to MN were a good thing because it opened up more opportunities & playing time to Castro, Miranda, SWR & Lee to shine, Yet Martin, Kiriloff, Keirsey & Varland need more consistent playing time in the MLB. We have been very fortunate not having any injuries connected to our catching duo or the top of our rotation which would be disastrous. Our good fortune needs to continue there. & I see our rotation will only improve. All of our injuries to our core players have been minor & should be in good shape very soon. What could also influence the race is the trade deadline. If CLE picks up a decent SP & we do nothing, CLE might hold on. If MN fills their need at SP & LHRP then we can go a long way.

I think it's strange that they finally selected a catcher Diaw but looks like he's so banged up he'll never last at catcher very long if ever

Thanks, Campos sounds good, IMO LHH is a premium. My main concern is if he has an arm.

IMO it was a good nite. Hill seems like a steal, got him at the right time. I have faith that the Twins can make him into a decent SP.

Of all the prospect we selected so far, Amike is most popular in the consensus & talking heads. He's much like the type Twins used to drool over very much like Cavaco. Can they fix him? They didn't fix Cavaco.

The Twins Should Trade Alex Kirilloff to the Angels
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO it's a lousy idea. In trading the secret is to sell high & buy low but many tend to sell low giving up too early & buying high going on the hype & later losing your shirt. Right now Kiriloff's stock is super low. The problem with Kiriloff is health not mechanics, once his health returns he'll mash like he did this spring (that's the truer picture of Kiriloff). Both Miranda and Kiriloff had shoulder surgery last year. Kiriloff who had also had wrist surgeries prior which made him more vulnerable, had a soft-tissue injury concerning the back which is common after a long recovery after a surgery. Because of Kiriloff's competitiveness & fear of losing his spot on the roster, he tried to play through it, compounding the problem. From the time Kiriloff was slumping I said he's hurting. Miranda is also now suffering from a soft-tissue injury concerning the back. Our solution isn't trading Kiriloff, our solution has always been getting rid of Santana. Santana has blocked Miranda & especially Kiriloff from recovering properly by limiting their exposure to more physically demanding positions. Miranda & Kiriloff individually can out-produce Santana at 1B but together there's no comparison. Get Kiriloff back to his game & bring up his trade value to where it should be then you can think about trading Kiriloff. -
I was hoping the same to begin '24 because many said this was a good crop of catchers. But as I looked closer none of them interested me. It's a case of too little too late. Last year's top college catchers Teal & Carrigg were potential elite catchers. None of these prospect's arms, athletism & bat impresses me. IMO few will stick at catcher. Since last year I see our only hope is to find a very good defensive young MLB-ready or a very soon-to-be catcher to trade for. I hear no talk so I'm not holding my breath.

To be honest, I wasn't too excited about this draft. I like Culpepper's work ethic & character. I also like that the Twins have gotten away from the big bat type & went after a line-drive hitter. Was Culpepper an underslot to where they could get an advantage down the line? The Twins' organization is full of pseudo SSs, where very few will stick at SS & be acceptable at the position & none will be exceptional.

Vazquez isn't a good runner, I never said he was. But he scored on a good base running move. On a sure DP with nobody out, he full-bore ran (Vazquez standard) to home. If he had been cautious & stayed at 3B he wouldn't have scored the insurance run.

Dang evening game on the West Coast weekend again, so I couldn't see the game. Seems like SWR battled well to keep us in the game with 7Ks. No Lewis, Correa, Buxton, Miranda, or Martin. No Farmer & Castro was needed elsewhere so Vazquez who never played 3B was put there & Margot in CF, it seemed like a recipe for disaster to me. I'm all for players to get ample time in AAA to help perfect their best opportunistic position but when management refuses to do so the only solution is to learn at the MLB level. For almost all of Martin's MiLB career, they tried to force him at SS, a position he had never played before, when his most natural & opportunistic long-term positions were OF & 2B. Julien was forced to play 2B almost exclusively throughout his professional career even though his best, more natural, opportunistic long-term position is 1B. Lee's most opportunistic position is 2B, until infrequently lately at the AAA level, he has not played 2B. Even when he had chances to play 2B in MLB he did not, even though he's a gifted INF & IMO would have no problem there. Because they had no choice but to play Lee at 2B, Lee showed that he's an all-star 2Bman. Give him the opportunity for him to perfect the position & make the Twins a better team. I don't ever recommend Vazquez to play 3B again. But I do commend his unselfish effort to support the Twins in any way he can. He didn't reel in some balls that most 3Bmen couldn't & even all-star ones don't always make. I also commend him for scoring the winning run via his base running. I do so because no one else will. I also congratulate Santana on hitting a HR in all 30 stadiums & aiding to the Twins win. A well-fought game that wrestled a win from the jaws of defeat. Go Twins!

Great to finally get Prielipp on the field. Tremendous outing! We have to find a way to keep him there. & Canterino? Julien 2ABs 1 hit 2BB 0 Ks , that's what I want to see from him at this point.

So often I see the line-up & scratch my head. Tonite with Margot leading off, Vazquez at DH & Miranda sitting?! Analytics is great but when you put garbage in you get garbage out. Let's reevaluate some of our priorities.

I agree we have an abundance of very good RHRPs. If we get a RP it needs to be a LHRP. AJ Pukk would be a bargain. AJ Pukk was a pretty good RP for MIA last season & piled up some saves. This year they experimented with him being a SP. That ended in a failure with a ballooned ERA. Since the return to the BP he has brought his ERA down to a little over 4,00. To give you an idea, I'd compare him to Varland, who doesn't quite have enough to be a MLB SP but his stuff plays well in the BP. MIA is motivated to sell & Pukk won't get the attention as Tanner Scott or Nardi will.
