    Yeah excuses excuses Kiriloff should be able to play with a bad back & maintain his production. He's probably faking it. What are they thinking of? what's he still doing on the IL? Why are the Twins criticizing him for playing hurt? A bad back does make a difference, Mr Bean. To properly evaluate a player you have to throw out the games he's been hurt (which is most of the last 3 yrs, that's why his WAR is low)) & look at the time when he's healthy which is great even after long periods of off time. At this point, my method is like Lewis, Buxton & Correa the focus needs to be to keep him healthy not trying to get his bat in the line-up outside his health limits. Now that his structural injuries have passed, his soft-tissue vulnerability will also pass & will be glad that we haven't given up on him or regret that we did.

    Yes, Santana has been producing recently but is he the silver lining you say? I think not. IMO the tandem of Miranda & Kiriloff could well outperform Santana if they were given the opportunity. Kiriloff & Correa were our best hitters to begin the season until Kiriloff got hurt. Here is a snippet from a Star-Trib article. "Tightness in Alex Kirilloff's lower back appears to be causing his slump, as injuries to his wrist and shoulder have in past seasons." Twins promised Kiriloff to keep him at 1B/ DH during his vulnerable recovery & lack of playing time. But then they got Santana & cemented him at 1B. With Kiriloff's hot bat they needed his bat in the lineup. So they put him in the OF. Where he eventually hurt his back. If Kiriloff stayed at 1B/ DH, like they promised, he wouldn't have gotten hurt as soon or as bad or as long. While Kiriloff has out-mashed Santana from the left side, Miranda has out-mashed him from the right side & we also have Julien. 1B defense is icing on the cake for any slugging 1B but production is what is really important. Any minimizing at 1B defense of our options is due to the Twins lack of opportunities given to them. But can be quickly resolved with a little bit more considerations. We also have Severino in AAA on the 40-man, who needs to get his feet wet. Lewis was also suggested as a possibility. 1B has been a non-issue.

    Me too. I've been following MIA since Lopez started to heat up. IMO PUK would have been our best buy. Scott hasn't been traded yet because MIA is holding out for more. It wouldn't bother me one bit if they trade Gonzales. That's one of my reasons for the Twins to be buyers. I don't expect CLE to go all in. They have their system which is pretty good for them.

    It's hard for me to see if Dobnak fits into the Twins' plans. But for years even before he hurt his finger, I thought that Dobbie would be a good fit for a team like CO. It's a shame that the Twins haven't been able to sell him to other teams where he could pitch in the MLB & the Twins unload his contract. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/07/d-backs-to-acquire-a-j-puk.html I saw SEA trading for Arozarena & AZ picking up my LHRP choice AJ Puk. It has started. Will the Twins do anything worth anything? It doesn't look like it. But doing nothing at this point is better than doing something stupid.

    "If you torture data long enough, it will confess to anything. " So true & very well put. I'm not sure if Baldelli is to blame, he just does what the boss commands. He's great at keep beating a dead dog & make the stats say whatever he wants, to justify his decisions.

    IMO when you get rid of Margot, you solve your Martin problem. A rookie who only bats against the league's top RHPs, almost all of our RHH veterans have problems with them, the main difference is they get a lot of their ABs against much easier LHPs & Martin doesn't. Don't look only at stats. When we get rid of Margot, Martin will get all of Margot's LHPs ABs & playing time. Martin has done everything he can learn as far as hitting at AAA. Most teams like to break in their rookie with light schedules not set them up to fail. Martin will not fail, he will eventually come around & impact this team when they start treating him like a rookie & give him steadier playing time. I remember when veteran Castro started to play for us, fans greatly criticized his defense, he was never sent down & now they praise him. Due to oversight, Martin has only begun his OF journey & he has made some spectacular plays. Castro has honed his defense skills last year by only playing at the MLB level so can Martin. But if they do nothing with Margot, Martin is doomed to AAA w/o him impacting the team.

    I really like your list Stringer. Most of the deadwood we could cut right away. Canterino, I would wait a little longer hoping he can eventually make it in the BP. But yeah, his hourglass is near the end.

    IDK where you got this from. Are we a much better team when Lewis, Miranda, Correa & Steward come back? Absolutly, how can anyone not think otherwise? That's ludicrous. That wasn't what I said. Where do you get me asking to trade anyone from the team? We aren't adding Lewis, Miranda, Correa & Steward they've been always been on the 40 man, last season & this season, they are returning. The idea of adding Lewis, Miranda, Correa, Steward & Topa is, we don't need to add anybody else.

    Watch your language! You have no idea what I'm talking about. I don't doubt that all minor leaguers have practice. I'm not talking about average players or prospects that don't need any special coaching, I'm talking about developing prospects with a lot of potential that can really use that extra special coaching (which some teams sometimes send them to their facility) that can put these guys over the top so they can make it to the MLB & excel, not just practice. I don't want these guys floundering in the MiLB when we need them to make those steps to meet those expectations. Where are you at?

    We had Correa, Lewis, Lopez & Steward last postseason & we don't know that Topa will do much of anything if he returns. What are you trying to spin? IMO we need a top-tier postseason SP. Will we get him? I doubt it. Maybe we'll end up with a hyped-up, washed-up back-of-the-rotation SP & say we're good. We need a good LHRP, will we get him? IDK.

    I really appreciate your creativity Brandon. $ isn't a problem with the LAD, they like Paxton but they just need the roster spot. IMO they are hoping that he'd clear everything & that he'd not select free agency & store him at AAA. They really don't need Thielbar (they'd probably DFA him too). I believe your idea is to switch out Thielbar for Paxton, have LAD pay Paxton's salary & eat Thielbar's salary. Basically LAD is paying for our prospects to use in the trade. LAD are creative if they need prospects to fill out this trade IMO they'd do it. What is a stickler for me is which prospect? & that prospect going to CWS. Paxton would be back of the rotation insurance, or better yet be used in a rotation with Paddack & Varland in spot start/ long LH relief

    Thanks Seth! I really appreciate you #1) including Martin & ranking him as high as you did. He is tremendously undervalued by too many fans. #2) I was wondering about Olivar arm & you answered it. His CS% problem isn't his arm but poor development. They really need to set him aside & really focus on his defense. He has a lot of potential. #3) I was curious about Dameury Pena & you gave me a good start. Jenkin shot up to #1 after the draft yet these draftees understandably did not rank high. IMO Keaushal should be moved to the OF where we have more of a need for a RH bat to justify his ranking more. Where I might differ more with you is maybe I'd value more defense. I'm very concerned about our catching depth. Cardenas IMO is our best defensive catcher, who started out very well hitting but has slumped terribly to where he's below his average. Here again, we can set him aside & have him work on his hitting. I'm concerned not only about the lack of drafting, trading for better defensive catchers but also the lack of development. IMO they have started to move Salas from the INF. Salas has a very rich heritage in catching, do you think he'd be open to give it a try? It should be in his blood. I really enjoy many of the blogs & forums written by members. IMO they should more available in the front page format that more member to take advantage of.

    Right now we have a lot of RHHs in Lewis, Correa & Miranda, followed by Buxton & Jeffers, strictly platooned Margot & Farmer with SHHs Castro & Santana who hit better RH; all who can mash LHPs. We have RHH Martin who should be in the LHPs line-up but isn't. How about our LHH hitters we have Larnach, Kepler; Wallner & Julien who strike out a lot & then we have Kiriloff who's our best pure hitter who has some power. Kiriloff is our most dependable LHH (who are a premium because of the great majority of RHPs)when healthy so our priority should be keeping Kiriloff healthy. We desperately need Kiriloff so we shouldn't even think about trading him away for nothing.

    I doubt that the Twins could give Farmer away. Kiriloff is a great hitter, when he's healthy, it'd be a shame to give him away in a trade. Just try to keep him healthy like Lewis. Severino, Hendriquz or Winder could be a throw-in for a Gonzales trade. This is a seller's market so it wouldn't be a bad idea to move some from our expiring contracts like Margot. We should get something for Margot even if it's just a low lotto ticket to create a spot & give more playing time to more deserving young players.

    Great homestand, something to get the fans excited. Maybe it'd motivate the Pohlads to loosen their purses. We can hope. This series with PHIL gives us confidence now that we can compete with the best even when we aren't close to 100%.

    There is no guarantee that he can pitch that well for us or if he passes the Ober bar. He'll be gone next year so DET won't have to worry about him facing him regularly in the future. But some of the pieces we send there will be around to be a pain in our but. Our ex-prospects love to bite us, especially in DET. Gonzales most definitely needs to be in any trade we make.

    I never doubted SWR ability to be a MLB SP. Yet I was amazed last night at how he surpassed my expectations. SWR is constantly changing & making adjustments, it's hard for the league to catch up to him. Sands, I saw enough before to be hopeful. Larnach? I had my doubts that he'd be able to reset his approach but he did. Now I see Walner changing & being a much better fielder to boot. This gives me hope that Julien can reset his approach also. We absolutely need all our LH hitters to step up to create the line-up that strikes fear in RHPs.

    Buxton can be streaky when healthy but you look at Lewis, Kiriloff & Correa when healthy they are the best hitters on the team when they aren't healthy they slump. There's a direct correlation. So I'm not worried about Kiriloff's ability to hit. I'm more concerned about keeping him healthy now that those structural injuries have passed. So put Kiriloff at 1B/ DH & keep him there until the soft-tissue vulnerability has passed so we can enjoy his hitting.

    I'm beginning to think so too. LAD has kept him on a rigid limited innings but as of late, he hasn't been very good. But for the league minimum, you can't go wrong, A total change of scenery could likely do him good. We can't depend on him for a lot of innings but some rotation of Paxton, Paddack & Varland could be very doable. Being so cheap we could also try to trade for a top-tier postseason SP if the price is right & the Twins are serious to advance in the postseason. If he doesn't work out in the rotation or BP we aren't out much.

    Social media didn't give SWR much of a chance to succeed this season & they are probably still waiting for him to fall because many look at past stats & not the person. SWR surprised everyone with a stellar performance last night against the league's most successful team. 6 scoreless innings, He had only 5Ks but it seemed like more because he always got those SOs when it really mattered. I've been impressed by Wallner's defense ever since he returned. Martin & Vazquez were the only RHHs that faced the CY candidate RHSP Wheeler. While (RHH) Margot has been pretty limited to LHPs, (RHH) Martin has been used exclusively & sporadically against tough RHPs, it seems like they setting him up to fail. Martin has been impactful on the field & on base paths but has been criticized about his hitting. Quit babying Margot, who is gone next season & give his ABs to Martin so he can break out. Martin is a good hitter & a OB machine, Finally give him the chance to get the feel at the plate, get on base & raise havoc on the base path, while honing his skill in the OF.
