Twins have some players they protect & others they abuse. Ober was sicker than a dog but yet he pitched, his life has been threatened, & has had a sore hip since the beginning of the season yet he's still pitching. How can he pitch under these condition?

I was totally against trading Alcala & the way they managed him since he came off the IL. He has pitched 4 scoreless innings for BOS. Good for him, bad for the Twins.

I didn't see it, but IMO, in this case, it didn't matter. What I saw, Castro stole 2B, advanced to 3B, then scored.

Biggest Surprises of the Twins' First Half
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton's production wasn't surprising. I was expecting him to be healthy, which equates great performance. Correa usually starts slow, but his extra-slow start makes me think he's playing hurt. For the last 2 seasons, Julien has been a liability both on defense & offense, so it's surprising to me that the Twins kept sticking with him. Miranda's disappointment is expected in how they are managing him. Many thought that the Twins' rotation was strong, but they are fragile. Making up with 3 young arms (Festa with fatigue arm early), Paddack bad arm history, Ober with a sore hip early, & Ryan was hurt last year. Our strongest SP (Lopez) has been our 1st casualty, followed by Matthews. I advocated from the beginning to limit the rotation's innings by having a rotating long relief/ spot starting role from SWR, Festa & Matthews to take the burden off the rotation & BP. They needed to put Ober on the IL from the beginning to fix his hip instead of him limping through. When Lopez went down, they should have picked up a veteran inning-eater SP to compensate for their huge void.- 21 replies

I loved Julien playing at 1B (there's hope now that he might make it back to MLB), Martin at 2B (that's where one of our greatest needs is), & Eeles showed his flexibility at CF. C Lewis had a good game, a great game that the BP made look close.

Well played game against the currently best AL team. Everything lined up; a rested BP, a rested Festa after having 2 short outings prior. Good pitching, good defense, good baserunning & clutch hitting, kept DET at bay. If the Twins can maintain this formula with good managing, we can come out well against this series.

I've always advocated to sell high (never low). Although GG should never make the Twins. It still never pays to sell low. GG was hyped up as a power-hitter, & his trade stock was too high & could have gotten us a much-needed impact player. Shortly after that his stock crashed & became worthless. His stock has risen slightly but very far from where he was. You could possibly get a poor lotto ticket for him but why waste your time?

Martin was really needed at 2B to begin the season with his getting on base, being a terror, & the fire that this team really needs. If he was placed there he might not have gotten hurt in CF. Martin is still needed there at this capacity, but he needs some time at AAA to be 100%, I wouldn't rush him especially not sending him to steal home shortly after his return like they did last time. Keirsey hasn't gotten any regular ABs all year except for his short stint at AAA. Send him down to AAA & keep him there until he's primed to face MLB pitchers. Twins have really screwed his hitting development.

Twins always say during the draft, "get the best player no matter the need, we can trade those prospects for our needs". That's nice but they never trade these prospects no matter how redundant they are. 2 yrs ago. I stated that Gonzalas was terribly overrated & needed to be traded immediately for needs. Never happened & his stock plummeted. Don't count on Falvey to trade any prospect we may obtain this deadline.

We could trade Coulume w/o any problem (we could bring up Prielipp sometime to substitute him). IMO, cOF is also a big need for PHI, IMO, PHI doesn't have anyone that can impact the Twins next season (which IMO, the Twins should prioritize). So, I'd be open for a 3-way trade, but don't expect Falvey to drive this type of trade.

I like Tait but we need someone who can come in now to get some reps this year to jump start for next season. I'd like someone like Tait at least 3 yrs. ago. It's too late now.

Very impressive that Sims had to wait 4 1/2 hrs. to start to pitch & came out focused & pitched a gem. If a SP can pitch 5 quality innings nowadays with all the stress of velo & spin, that's a big win. Times have changed & Twins needs to embrace that change & incorporate long relief to keep the pressure off the BP. Blow outs are still only 1 win or loss. Larnach's HR was hugh, Twins winning close games will be the true test.

I really like Duran, he's very important to us & he belongs on the list but he has blown & lost some crucial games for us. I'd be tempted to put Castro ahead of him.

Falvey: Minnesota Twins Are Not Focused On Selling
Doctor Gast replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
We had postseason success in '23 to build off of. But instead of building on that core, they have been chipping away from it. That core swept the hot SF Giants this year w/o some of the offense absent, others not hitting on all their cylinders & Baldelli not micromanaging. If Falvey changes his ways, we have a shot, but that isn't going to happen, so we've been doomed from the start. We could start selling right now. But that's a bad look, so Falvey is saying we aren't selling, But inwardly waiting to blame the players & open up his fire sale & have everybody love him (except for some Twins fans). -
Ryan was the anchor for a boat gone adrift. Like you said the defense was a little sloppy, but the pitching didn't unravel. That's what we needed, along with Buxton's aggressive baserunning & clutch hitting by Castro & Clemens. Just enough balanced effort for the win. Hope it's enough to stabilize the pitching staff & playing good baseball.

Baldelli isn't the main problem, but extending him was premature & crazy. Soooo Falvey.

Yeah, Dan. It has been the perfect timing for Adams to get his feet wet in long relief. Why pitch Bride when we had Adams to go long relief? Adams didn't pitch 1 inning while he was up, did he? I'd like every potential SP to be exposed in long relief in AAA & brought up in a rotational long RP & spot starting role. Instead of wasting his bullets in AAA while giving our rotation & BP a break. But that's just me.

In the offseason, I addressed HOU as a trade partner. I focused on a promising MLB-ready LHP prospect, Colton Gordon & promising MLB-ready reserve catcher, Caesar Salazar. I'm still high on these guys, the current BTV is 2.6 & 0.0, respectively. I used Paddack as trade bait, current BTV (3.7). HOU could go with this trade, plus a lotto thrown in. HOU needs a LH bat, especially at cOF, but I'm not interested in anybody else on the HOU roster. Janek is too far away & I'm not convinced about his potential. We have an abundance of LH bats in the OF in the future with Wallner, Larnach, Castro, with soon-to-be-developed MLB bats in Keirsey, E-Rod & Jenkins. IMO, HOU doesn't have anyone who can compensate us adequately. A 3-way trade could be an option to supplement a trade. There are many teams that could use a good LHH cOFer, like PHI or LAD. I'd go to them 1st.
