  1. It's great finally having his legs under him. I knew it'd be a matter of time.
  2. I wouldn't even consider trading Ryan because he holds an important place in our rotation. But when he was asked what he felt about the trade deadline? His answer was "It's exciting". To many players, they feel anxiety about being traded, but not Ryan. To me, that says he doesn't care about staying or even is excited about being traded. So if someone blows my socks off with young MLB-ready impact players that fill our needs at catcher, 2 SPs who can help us now & the future, I'll bite. So no redundant players or prospects. Ballestero & Wiggins don't move the needle for me. Ballestero won't stick at catcher. Cubs don't come close to have the players to make this deal go down. I'd pull a trade with PHI for Painter & Lazardo, That'd fill our Ryan void & that'd make PHI hands down the best rotation. They also have BP & cOF needs that Twins could help.

  4. I'm in the camp of not overextending our young arms or SPs who have a history of arm problems. But Baldelli sometimes succumbs to public opinion & has them go longer than they should. IMO, our SPs, especially our young ones, have a lot of adrenaline pumping through their bodies facing this LAD lineup & a quicker hook should be in order not to put their arms under the added stress. If it were me, I'd pull both Festa & SWR sooner. Now Festa is down, putting added stress on the rotation. I have advocated getting a veteran innings-eater SP to take up the slack when Lopz went down, coming 2 months ago. Our rotation lacks flexibility. Paddack is overdue to be placed in long relief, but because we are short in the rotation, he is still there. Until we incorporate long relief, we are in danger of burning out our BP & SPs & have worn down in case we do make it to the postseason.
  5. We still need to think about competing next year, especially if we have a new organization. So no lotto tickets, especially OFers that won't even be ready to join the shows years down the road. Our #1 focus needs to be a young top MLB-ready catcher. Rushing certainly fits that bill. But IMO, Rushing has a lot of hype connected to him & LAD will sell that hype on Falvey. So..... CWS has stated that they are willing to trade one of their outstanding rookie catchers to better diversify their rebuild. I propose that we pull a trade that NYY did with us, when they had us trade Garver to TX for Falefa & in turn trade him to NYY. LAD could secretly trade for either Oscar Quero or Teel, who would be more bang for the buck. Then we could trade in turn for MLB-ready impact players Quero or Teel. Realistically, I doubt that LAD would trade Rushing straight up for either Duran or Jax much less expensive add-ons. Our base would then be Quero or Teel, Feducci (3rd catcher next year), then negotiate the rest with the likes of LHPs Jack Dreyer (MLB-ready) & Ferris ('26). Many trade offers that are out there by so-called pundits over social media are ridiculous. Redundant players & lotto tickets for our elite high leverage RPs! Give me a break! I hate to see either go. But if a great deal of impact young MLB-ready players that'd fill our need & help us now & in the future. IMO, we are strong enough in the BP where we could do that if the price is right.
  6. I went to bed with SWR vs Yamamoto thinking we had no chance. Pleasantly surprised that we won. Also 3 players that many TD members have been complaining about came up big. I scratched my head over Lewis's 0-4 with 3 rbi(s). Did he have 3 fielder's choices where a runner scored on 3 different occasions? Vazquez clutch hitting is icing on the cake. Nevertheless, Correa came through; if we have any chance, he has to, on a regular basis.
  7. This is my point that you didn't pick up. If the Twins haven't been able to develop Wallner sufficiently, who has all the raw defensive talent to become a very good RFer. How can Gonzalez, who doesn't have that raw talent, be developed into a good RFer? When Falvey obtained Gonzalez, I checked him out through an evaluator I trusted & watched defensive clips, I could get my hands on. I like Gonzalez as a hitter. My problem is with the evaluation that is propagated & the ranking that is given to him. I stated that Gonzalez shouldn't make the Twins because of his bat doesn't fit his defensive abilities. But that said, that doesn't mean that Falvey won't force him through over players who are better than him. To the detriment of the Twins.
  8. Fans tend to expect more from their 1st round picks but I'm not giving up on Lee yet, because we lack decent gloves in the INF. You have to be patient with young players. I can't say if Lee has a better chance adapting in AAA but if Keirsey isn't getting regular ABs in MLB then send him down. Nobody can hit MLB pitchers if they don't get regular MLB ABs. Also bring up Martin & give him time at 2B.
  9. Murphy wasn't my idea, I just commented on the author's idea. Like I said Murphy is a good catcher but I don't think MN (or maybe ATL) would do it. Twins were solid in '23 with veterans Lopez, Gray, Ryan, Ober, Maeda & Paddack. IMO, when you depend on young SPs & SPs with some arm problem history, you never have enough pitching.
  10. Buck & Ryan are hot. Castro is doing pretty well. Some are OK, but injuries have hurt us Areas that are fragile should have been addressed, but haven't. Jeffers is doing well, but we don't want to ride that horse to the ground. Correa, Lewis, & Wallner are not hitting on all cylinders, maybe because they haven't been 100% & still trying to find their rhythm. But IMO, they are close & when they do watch out, we'd be a force to reckon with. I enjoy Plouffe's opinions. Like me, he believes in the Twins' core. He said the Twins brand should be smart baseball (like the Brewers). Focus should be on a lot of good, smart coaches (Many of the good coaches, Twins have let go & the bad ones have been promoted) & good scouts. IMO, Lewis has been disgusted with the INF coach because he wasn't helping him with his throwing (he was fired) & now with the hitting coach because he's not helping him get him out of his slump. The team has been flat. At times, they play good fundamental ball & do fine, but they relapse & play poorly. I will say it again, the problem isn't the core; it's management.
  11. That's funny because it seems not too long ago. Twins were great against FBs but lousy against off-speed stuff. Maybe they over-compensated trying to hit the off-speed.
  12. You took the words out of my mouth. Correa is the biggest hole. He's the leader. If he's not producing, his leadership goes out the window.
  13. You are focusing on 2 opposite things. Oliva had enough raw defensive tools plus proven HR power, fine for RF. Shane Mack & Lyman Bostock played a lot of CF & were very good hitters that qualified them w/o being HR hitters. Gonzalez's glove at best is a RFer but doesn't hit HRs to profile there. Maybe he was adjusting to a new team so he was apprehensive in RF (which made him appear slow & lazy) maybe he can improve defensively to be a better RFer (not anything more) but I don't see him ever hitting enough HRs to qualify him for a MLB call-up there. like Oliva, Wallner has a lot of raw defensive tools to play RF. How many years has he played professional ball & how much has he improved during those years? Oliva started proball in '61, it took him until '66 to obtain a GG. Wallner started in '19. I don't see the same raw defensive tools with Gonzalez.
  14. Kirby Puckett & Brian Dozier came up because they could play a premium position not that they could hit HRs or had the potential to do so. HRs came later. They are an exception not the rule. Many who even have high power rankings don't make it. Gonzalez's glove won't get him to the show to find out.
  15. Gonzalez is a free-swinging contact hitter. Well below average runner & fielder. So what good is it, if he has good arm if he doesn't get to a ball or field it? Where did they get that he has any HR potential? That evaluation has no real basis. So why do people still dream that it will somehow miraculously appear? Last year he didn't live up to his contact hitting profile, this year he is, If he was a slick fielding SS, he'd be worthy of his high ranking (some still demand an above average slugging for the position of SS) but he's not. He's a RFer at best, so many HRs are a must. So until that materializes, he shouldn't be ranked high or even dream that he'd become a MLBer at least for the Twins,
  16. I'm 3 time zones ahead of TC. I'm getting ready for bed now. MIL swept LAD, because of good baseball not trying to out-slug them. Let's do the same! Good night.
  17. I like Bader & hate to see him go, but Twins aren't going anywhere so I see the Twins will try to unload his salary & get someone for him. Kemp has had a lot regular ABs to adjust to MLB but it takes a ton more to feel you belong. We really don't need another mediocre LF, 3B or 1Bman but it might be better than nothing.
  18. I'm more concerned about areas that are more fragile. Independent of deadline, we started the season fragile at our rotation, which was very evident when Lopez went down; the rotation unraveled almost 2 months ago & nothing has been done. INF has been, but seems to be resolved internally. The 3rd is catcher; we have been very fortunate that both Jeffers & Vazquez have been healthy. If either goes down, we'd be in the crapper. Even if both continue to be healthy, catching is a very demanding position & the grind wears them down. Jeffers & Vazquez don't have the stamina to maintain their performance to the end. So, Sean Murphy is an excellent idea. He's worth his $15M price tag, but IMO, Twins can't afford him & the prospect price will be high at the deadline.
  19. Big bats look good on paper to improve the Twins' already good-looking lineup on paper, On paper, Twins haven't looked good on paper at DH, 1B & LF for some time now, so they've looked outside the organization only to make the situation worse (now I'm not saying or have ever said that Bader or France were bad pick ups). I'm not in favor of focusing on bats because there's a lot of hype surrounding bats so bats are too expensive. IMO, we need to focus on pitching, defense, fundamentals, baserunning & better ABs. IMO, we have the offense but they need to wake up & be more clutch.
  20. Baldelli's getaway games are usually raising the white flag & conceding the loss, but this getaway game was putting out there the A team & try to have some respectability leaving town.
  21. SF went big in weird analytics through the president of operations, Farhan Zaidi & failed to qualify for the postseason for those years. They had to shake things up; they didn't tear everything down. FA Snell left & they signed FA Adames; otherwise, it was the same roster. They just replaced Zaidi for baseball smart Buster Posey. Instead of taking years to turn things around, instantly, they have seen the difference. Many are calling for a fire sale of the core. The core isn't the problem, it's the weird analytical philosophy & rejecting fundamental baseball. Clean house in management, top to bottom & replace it with smart baseball from personnel who know baseball, not nerds. I'm not against analytics as a tool, but not the driving force to justify your faulty philosophy.
  22. I'll say it again, to win games we need good pitching, good defense, good baserunning, clutch hitting & chemistry. We got some offense, but not much clutch hitting or anything else. Get more big bats? Because of the hype on big bats, big bats are expensive. Getting a bunch HRs when we don't need them, doesn't win games if the other attributes are ignored. If we had swept the ROX, I'd think nice. If we won the series, it's to be expected; you have to win those games, But lose a series to the worst team in baseball, Twins would have to do a lot of soul searching.
