When Lewis rejoined the Twins, that was the time the Twins started their successful run, which is still going on, independent of his offense. It's the intangible of positivity that Lewis brings, of which Twins constantly battle with negativity. Also, the chemistry that occurs when the core is complete. The Twins sliding isn't due to Lewis as much as the absence of Correa & Buxton. Correa is back but Buxton & Bader are absent in the OF. IMO, sending Lewis down will hurt the Twins more than help. His bat will come around, it's just a matter of time.

We have a pretty good team that's capable of performing well. When the team wasn't doing well, many fans were yelling, "Fire Sale, trade away the whole core!" The problem has never been the core. I wish Target Field is packed every home game. But I have to admit that because of how they are managed starting from the top, I have lost some interest. The Pohlads are stupid; that shouldn't be the reason to boycott them.

Paddack pitched an efficient game until the 6th. We need to bring up Simmy & figure out a long RP role. Baldelli's analytical micromanaging made up his mind when he scratched Bader, that he was going PH Keirsey later in the game. Keirsey had, I believe, his 1st early hit (1 of only 3 until Correa's in the 7th). Keirsey needed to build off that, but instead Baldelli PH him. LHH Keirsey was removed against a RHP, What sense does that make? They could have pinch-hit RHH Lewis for Lee. Twins had an elite OF with CFers Buxton, Bader & Keirsey. With Buxton & Bader not able to play that left only Keirsey. The removal of Keirsey, severely compromised our OF & made what was a winnable game, out of reach.

"It's against old-fashioned sabermetric orthodoxy to suggest that a hitter can be consistently clutch, but ...." IMO, it's like low-leverage & high-leverage RPing. It's being able to get up mentally & reach for something extra to meet the occasion. While some cave, others thrive. If a guy can hit clutch, I really don't care what he does with a casual AB. This orthodoxy is full of baloney. Guys like Reggie Jackson was OK during the regular season, but come around postseason, his bat would come alive.

I wasn't very high on the Twins' draft picks last year. But the top picks look pretty good, especially if Culpepper sticks at SS. DeBarge continues his tear on the bases & Diaw can eventually catch in the bigs. Does Diaw belong in the Twins' top 20 prospects? AA will be the true test.

Thanks, Cody, for this interesting article. There's a lot I don't know about pitching analytics. IMO, Paddack trade was a bust. The Twins offered him a generous extension while he was rehabbing, so they could save face. I wish they had invested in a better, more dependable & cheaper SP at the time. Last year, the Twins recouped some value on Paddack's short season. A flyball pitcher, he has greatly benefited from our superior OF of Buxton, Bader & Keirsey. I hope for the best for him, but after hardly pitching in recent years & a short season last year, I don't think he'll pitch much over 100 innings, pitching the way he is. He has been pitching great for us lately, but he could pitch even better in the BP while conserving his arm. (I could be wrong), It could be an option to flip him (as a SP or RP) at the deadline if we could get a good trade in return, whether we are in the race or not. It's just an idea.

Saying he's a better fielder & baserunner than Keaschall & Clemens & defending him from prejudice is hardly adoration. As long as Keirsey isn't playing for your NYM, why do you care about anything he does or what any Twins fan think?

We could debate on how well our current coaches have coached these 6 high draft picks, That prior coaches like Tanner Swanson, James Rowson, Wes Johnson have had ton of praises from the players & now players rarely praise the coaches, it's more I'm working on this or that. Meaning the players have to get the info & work on it themselves. But that wasn't my point. We could debate that these 6 high draft picks made it. How many have not? We could debate how poor our depth is, especially at catcher, but still that isn't my point. Frankly, MLB Ready; I don't care if we have ZERO in-house players on the roster if we develop our players & trade them for players that'll fill our big needs. What I was mainly referring to was how little attention is given to players who have proven themselves, but are not on the Twins' personal list, who are put in very difficult situations to thrive in the MLB. They should be given every opportunity to make good in the MLB. This makes for good vibes on & off the field. It's good for the players & it's good for the team. This raises their value so that we could trade them for a bigger need. The way things are now these players are worthless.

I've stated before, Keirsey should be sent down because he's not getting regular ABs. Now that he's starting more often & rare times he's given 4 ABs in a game he has came through with key hits. But too often when he's finally ready to hit in a game they take him out. I don't care if we aren't a rebuilding team, we are winning with Keirsey in the lineup. If Keirsey were a veteran who had 50 consecutive regular ABs, I'd be very concerned with the stat you stated but Keirsey is green & has not been given regular ABs so he's exactly where you expect him to be. It's not a slam on Keirsey it's a slam on the Twins.

Contrary to some thought, MLB is the most important part of player development. Many would criticize a pitcher for not going 5 innings & clamor for his removal, Zebby in his 2 outings has averaged 3.5 innings & 3 runs per game, leaving the Twins a hole to crawl out of. Yet in these 2 games, it has been very valuable in Zebby's learning progress & for the Twins in the long run. Very impressive, the Twins coming back from a 4-0 deficit. Go Twins.

Rookies are very different; they all have different talents & progress offensively differently. Players have to adjust at each level, but the adjustment to MLB is by far the hardest. We need a lot of patience with them. You have rookies who are very adept at hitting like Keaschall, they come up hitting practically right away & then you have rookies like Kody Clemens who came up at 26, who was given a lot of regular ABs over 3 yrs. Who had started out with the same results as Keirsey (who, though, had very rare regular ABs), Who has progressed very little in that time. This year, PHI gave up on him & they stopped giving him regular ABs & failed to get a single hit. Magically, after MN claimed him, gave him regular ABs, & 400 ABs, everything clicked. Keirsey is a better fielder & baserunner than both & he's at the point in his development where he still needs a lot of regular ABs & it takes him 4 ABs in a game to get grooved in. In those times he has come through with key hits. Just when he's ready to hit, they take him out. Twins quit micromanaging & let him hit his 4th AB. I have to admit that there are players that I don't have as much patience but with Keirsey he has what it takes to contributes to the Twins if given the opportunity.

So... You quoting me is proof how you twist my statements, My statement is not predicting on Bader production, it's stating how bullheaded this FO is by keeping veteran acquisitions on the roster & line up no matter what. You give a player a good amount of regular ABs he will improve if you don't he won't. That's to be expected. That's not ridiculous, that's common sense. Kody Clemens broke into the MLB the same age as Keirsey (26). his 1st year, he had 117 ABs most of them regular ABs, his stat line was .145/,197/.308/.505. 2nd year, 139 ABs stat line he improved to .230/.277/.367/.644. This year before MN picked him up he didn't have regular ABs with PHI, his stat line was .000/.143/.000/.143 until MN had patience with him & gave him regular ABs. Around 400 career ABs it started to kick in. Keirsey (1st year) had 13 ABs, his stat line was .154/.214/.385/599. When he has been given sparse regular ABs he usually has key hits. Right now in his progress it usually takes him 4 ABs in a game to get up to speed & quite often he's taken out of the game before that. Keirsey is a better fielder & baserunner than Clemens but Clemens been given ample opportunity to hit while Keirsey has not. Again I'm not saying that Keirsey will be an all-star, but I'd like this organization to develop their young players to the max & they have failed. We are not NY we can't just go out & buy the top players; we have to develop them.

DET showed they were serious when they got Hinch. Hinch set the groundwork for what they have now. Even though Baez was a bust at SS, he's rebounded at CF. Skubal is the best in the AL. With the moves the Twins made last year, I felt the Twins wouldn't win the division or go to the postseason. I really like the core that did so well in the '23 postseason but I'm disappointed with the management's players' development & evaluations & their micromanaging. But DET is here to stay & the team to beat. Hope CLE continues to beat them.

Good pitching, defense, and clutch hitting win close games. Good teams win close games. Winning close games isn't being lucky; it's playing sound baseball.

Thanks Linus. I'm glad we agree on something. IMO the goal is to get our SPs up to the MLB & then get them built up to go over 5 innings. I like your idea of having Simmy, Festa & Zebby up. ( Festa's dead arm so early has me concerned.) & then we have Adams, Prielipp & Raya(?). I like Alcala & Funderburg, they have a purpose if used properly. IMO, Twins need to focus on maximizing the development of our inhouse players, even if they aren't in the future plans. Because like in Alcala's case, he can be an effective high-leverage RP when used properly & come the deadline, many teams are looking for RPs. Alcala & (LHP) Funderburg (if Prielipp is brought up) can bring premium returns.

Great trivia question, Seth. I believe Keirsey is the Saints' HR leader. Is Severino the runner-up? Holland is an exciting young man. I was disappointed that Payton Eeles was injured & not given the opportunity to be called up to MLB.

I know many will disagree with me, but IMO all promising SPs should have some experience at a long RP & get their feet wet in the MLB as a long RP.

I guess I'm in the camp of clamoring for long RPs. Thanks for your insight. Prielipp & Raya are the most obvious for the need of long relief, but any one in the rotation, especially the young ones, can come up with a clunker & not last much over 5 if that. Proper long RPs saves the rotation & BP arms, to keep them fresh through the season & into the post.
