  1. Palacios started with the Twins organization as a very good SS prospect. Mysteriously when traded to TB for Ordorizzi, he couldn't hit even while remaining in the same league. When returned to the Twins his hitting started to come back. The years in TB were wasted, I don't count that against him. Palacios isn't a 26 yr. old loser. While I don't envision him to set the world on fire,I do recognize that he's good enough to hold down SS for a month until Lewis is ready.
  2. My gut tells me that Correa would still want to test the waters for a longer contract come off season. With less impressive stats and the cheating scandal still lingers over him, he'll have a more difficult time to get what he wants. Leaving the door open for the Twins to maybe sign Correa for a more reasonable short term contract. As a fall back plan my gut still believes that Lewis will come back strong again to be our near future SS. Palacios has shown he can handle MLB SS position take away a few rookie errors. In AAA Palacios has shown he can hit, with time it can translate it to MLB much like Gordon has done. I don't think that Lee will be able to cover for Lewis yet. I don't want to trust Gordon there either, maybe a back up to Palacios until Lewis is ready if we are desperate.
  3. Of course any Kepler/ high end SP trade won't be 1 for 1.
  4. Wallner's draw back is his defense & SOs. He's well suited for RF with his cannon of an arm and where his defense matters less. I don't think it's a good idea to keep Kepler as a 4th OF, I'd rather use use him as trade bait for a high end SP. Hopefully Wallner can cut down on his SOs. I'd still not place him above Larnach or Kiriloff.
  5. I applaud our FO for taking risks although many times those risks are based too much on certain stats and not on conditions that surrounds that risk. Last year I didn't buy into the positive hype with our only & last minute obtainees,Colume' (why did CWS let him go?) Happ (a slow LHP in a RH dominate hitting league) & doubtful Shoemaker. Happ & Shoemaker were a wash and they kept on doubling down on Colume' as closer eventhough it was absolute clear that he wasn't up to the job. I was all in w/ the Gray trade and it has paid off. I didn't like them trading away Garver & Rogers, you may say that they didn't do anything away from MN, there's a reason for that. The reason much like Cruz that they did well here was that they were managed correctly here & not where they ended up. Trading them shorted us more in the already lacking BP & catching & didn't adequately replaced them. Trying to force Duffy & Pagan in the closing position and they failed miserably and again they kept doubling down to the point where it was detrimental. I applauded this FO for making bold moves at the deadline. All the trades looked terrific on paper & I graded them an A. But I've learned the hard way (I hope our FO has to) that at the deadline, teams have headlined their SPs from the beginning of the season. Showcasing them & squeezing every bit from them to make them shine, leaving very little left for receiving teams. IMO the Twins need to make their bold moves in the off season not at the deadline. Try hard to make desireable trades & supplement those trades w/ FAs. So we can properly manage them throughout the season and have a premium player at the end.
  6. Your post ToppGun made me think that maybe the attitude of holding back especially on the base paths has trickled down to the team. That the whole team is holding back, afraid of giving their all, that extra that's needed to win games. Therefore finding ourselves many times on the short end of the stick. There has to be a fair medium of not being wreckless & giving your all.
  7. There was a period after Tony O retired, when the Twins donned on the baby blues, they became the Twinkies, I could no longer watch them because they were so terrible. Not until they put the pinstripes back on that I started to watch them again & they won the World Series in '87. To me an uniform can be more than an uniform, it can be an attitude. Many are nostalgic about the Twinkies, I am not, I hate losing. 2021 to celebrate the 30 yr. anniversary of the '91 World Series instead of bringing back the pinstripes and the winning attitude, they brought back the baby blues & the lackeldaizical attitude. Is this the attitude they want to promote? It seems like it.
  8. All 3 had very bright season. My choice of the rookie with the most impact is Duran. He has been phenomenal all season long. But the rookie with the brightest future is Royce Lewis, he can excel in everything. IMO no injury will hold him back, just keep him away from CF for heavens sakes.
  9. I was disappointed w/ Sano & Kepler that after all this time they could not better adapt away from the juiced ball, plus FO demolishing our catching & little BP we had, while doing nothing to bolster it. Injuries to Kiriloff, Larnach & Buxton really hurt us, Although we really didn't have any work horses, I liked our rotation plus we had a few good long relief candidates to compensate the shortage of innings. My greatest disappointment was that some sort of long relief that was promised never materialized, Over relying on poor short relief (Duran excluded) & over extending our rotation caused many of the pitching injuries & ineffectiveness. This was & had been our main downfall for as long as I can remember. Duran has been our greatest success story. His effectiveness & staying healthy was phenomenial. Lewis was also phenomenal until he was stipidly put in CF. Gordon & Celestino finally gave us the CF back-up that kept us in games which we normally lost when Buxton wasn't there. We found a home for Arraez at 1B & DH. Buxton carried the team for most of the 1st half. Ryan was great starting the season & now ending it. Miranda & Wallner have shown that they can hit. It was great to have Correa but he really didn't earn his $. His spurt at the end was too little too late. I take my hat off to our FO for trying to improve our pitching at the deadline but I'd rather them pick up some SP & BP arms during the off season, because many SPs are pushed so to showcase them that when we get them there's nothing left in the tank.
  10. Thank you Twins for giving us some good baseball. IMO we had the players & could have won it but nevertheless thank you. Gordon has proved himself again by pruducing runs when we needed them. Now we can bring up some young players, let them play and see what they can do. Go Twins
  11. I share your hope in these 3, Nick. I agree w/ Karbo & LewFordLives that as long as Martin get on base they should leave Martin's swing alone. They should let his power come naturally like Polanco & Dozier. For me, my biggest problem w/ Martin is he doesn't stick at SS and they should start grooming him at CF.
  12. I for one agree with you. It matters if your teammates are there to cheer you on. It matters that the coaches are there to encourage you, It matters that there fans are there to cheer you on, I like the fans into the game and not disinterested, busy on their cell phones or talking to others about unrelated things. You may say MLB players are professionals and not little leaguers but they are still humans beings. And things like these do make a difference between winning & losing.
  13. Happy for Wallner hitting his 1st HR. Tough luck for Varland. Sanchez pitch well once he got warmed up. I don't think Baldelli knows that many pitchers need more time to warm up for long relief.
  14. Some can throw with high spin rate w/o any sticky stuff. If you want to see if someone is cheating you have to look at the drastic change of spin rate from before.
  15. Ober marveled me on his return, pitching 5 scoreless innings. Even with the defensive miscues & short of offensive, I think we could've won the game. But our otherwise wonderful BP, let us down. Mark is spot on, that there is too much dependency on short relief. Theilbar pitched in 3 consecutive games while Fulmer, Jax & Duran has pitched in consecutive games. While we totally agree on this point, we disagree with the solution. I respect his option but our rotation has it's limits & stretching beyond that limit has caused it's own problems. My solution as always is long relief. Knowing Ober was to go 5 innings Baldelli could have Sanchez warmed up & ready to sub Ober. Sanchez as long relief could have gone 3 innings & hand it over to a rested Lopez to close the game. Shoot if Sanchez was on, he could've closed out the game & save the entire short relief crew for the double-header. And IMO would have saved the game
  16. It'll be interesting to see how Martin, Julien & Isola fare in AFL. None of the pitching representitives really excites me but the added innings will certainly help them.
  17. If it's not broken don't fix it. That happens to a lot of players, too often when coaches want to tweak a player to their phylosophy. They tried, it didn't work, time to go back what feels right for Lopez.
  18. I don't think Ober will go more than 4 innings coming off this long hiatus. My hope is Buxton & Polanco will comeback in this series 100% & super charge this offense.
  19. I agree with RPR, although Wallner will certainly see his day at the MLB level, now isn't the time. Miranda had some difficulty adjusting to MLB, IMO more than likely Wallner will too, couple with his more be to desired glove, I don't see him being called up while we are fighting for our lives.
  20. My hope is the Twins will be firing on all 8, SPing , BP, defense & offense will all come together. That all the starring pieces comeback healthy & hungry, with CLE young team folding at the end and we with such momentum going into the post season to win our 1st post season game since who knows.
  21. IMO Larnach will get better both in performance & health, the more he puts time in. Before too long Larnach should be a staple in the Twins OF.
  22. I'm all for speeding up the game and making the game safer. Although I believe adaption is the name of the game, so technically the no shift rule, I'd be against it. With a terrific SS we don't need to put on this extreme shift and more times than not it hurts us. So this rule could help us to stop trying to be cute and play honest defense will help us densively besides Kepler. I'm still sad they didn't put in place the robo umps, allowing for a fairer game play.
  23. It was great to see SWR step up in AAA and perform. Have great expectations for him.
  24. Yeah, beginning of last season, I could see how things were going so I resigned that the team would have absolutely no chance to go anywhere although we had a good core. This year with greater depth at SS & CF, I had more hope eventhough our BP was overall lousy. For me last season was more frustrating, although it was short lived, it was greatly more intense. This season I've always had hope that this team could turn it around.
  25. This is my guess also. In 2019, Twins were able to win the division eventhough their poor INF anchored by misplaced SS Polanco, no capable CF sub to injury prone Buxton and no long relief to balance out the gap between SP & closer. 2020 management improved INF with Donaldson but left Polanco at SS. In 2021, moved Polanco off SS. In 2022, improved CF back-up depth imensely, upgraded SS w/ Correa and suggested "piggy-back" system was very promising, but never was followed through. Long relief (piggy-back) was especially needed due to a demolished BP because of the Rogers trade. Buxton carried the team the 1st half yet the BP lost too many games. Trading Garver demolished our catching depth, that was never really adressed. Not addressing these 2 areas were very dentrimental for our season success. Slow as it may be, management is making progress. So I believe Baldelli will stay around in 2023. As it seems that management can only work on one problem at a time, they will double down again on Jeffers. But if they install long relief & use it regularly, this will greatly help our pitching problems. If they don't greatly demolish another vital area.
