  1. Congratulations Nick Gordon! You & Celestino have cured our gaping wound for so many years out there as CF back-ups. Keep up the great work!
  2. Duran had my vote too. He was phenomenal all season. Duran turned a ? (wether he could make that transition) to !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (an elite reliever)
  3. MIA has had IMO the best rotation or one of the best rotation for years & still have a strong core of pitchers they can plug into that rotation for years. Yet they haven't been able make a good run for the post season. The problem is they don't have the bats. MIA are not in a rebuild, they want to compete now! IMO they don't want prospects or pitchers, they'd want veteran bats at least MLB ready. The bats that they could be interested in are Jeffers, Kepler, Polanco, Arraez or maybe a Miranda or Wallner.
  4. #1 hole starting catching- sign Contreras or Narvaez, I'd also trade Jeffers to fill a SP hole & find a different back up. #2 hole starting frontline SP- trade for Lopez (MIA) #3 high end RP- sign Rogers, we know how to manage him & could do well w/ us #4 starting SS- priority sign Correa or then a place holder for Lewis I really like our OF- Buxton, Kepler, Larnach, Kiriloff, Gordon and Celestino with Cave, Garlic & Wallner in the wings. Gordon & Celestino have been steadily improving along with their durability will continue to be very valuable to us. I'd also include Kepler in the Lopez trade. I'd like a LH bat to platoon at 3B, because I don't think Miranda can man it by himself. I don't think Arraez can nail that down so we'd need to bring back Urshela for another year.
  5. Good to see Martin do so well,if he'd hit some HRs he'd really turn some heads. But I'm surprised to see him at SS. I was expecting more competition there so they'd play him in CF like they did to Lewis. Julien was good, I was disappointed with Isola's hitting and him not catching, I don't see him backing up catching at MLB anytime soon.
  6. Judge was jokingly suggested for a Kyle Garlic upgrade. But it will never happen on all accounts. MN have greater needs where they need to spend their $ and Judge has greater needs than what he can find in MN. But it's a nice dream.
  7. Duran was fantastic in short relief, his transition was a success. I have a feeling that he wants to come back next season as a starter. What do you think about that? Do you think that he can transition back? Do you think it'd be worth it?
  8. This is the biggest fault of management. Doubling down & holding onto wrong evaluations. It's one thing to make a wrong evaluation (which it seems too often) because no one is perfect but it another thing not able to make quick adjustments to those wrong evaluations and it's another thing to let go of a right evaluation too soon.
  9. We don't face that many LHPs, for that fact and his health problems I certainly would not protect him on the 40 man. But if he passes waivers, he be a good break glass emergency type player. We could definitely use an upgrade from him. Celestino has been great, maybe he'll turn out be our Judge? But we need another RH hitting OFer. I still scratch my head on how so many players were drafted ahead of Judge.
  10. I'm very excited about this AFL. I'm expecting more of a Royce Lewis type of AFL from Martin. I'm also excited in what Julien can do there. Following them will be part of my past time. Go Twins!
  11. Most important aspect of CF is glove, both Gordon & Celestino shown very good glove from the beginning, you have to be blind not to see that. Their hitting were both well above average at the time Lewis went down. CF depth Buxton, Celestino & Gordon very impressive. Before Lewis went down, (not including Lewis) SS depth Correa + nobody, 3B Urshela + Arraez (not very good), 2B Polanco + Arraez (not very good), 1B Arraez + (nobody because Kiriloff was hurt). So as you should see Lewis was much more needed for INF depth. Let me explain the danger. Do an experiment, sprint full bore (if you can) blind folded into a wall (blind folded because the CF has their eyes on the ball not the wall). Then tell me if you don't get seriously hurt. Especially if you had surgery the year before. What's the odds of a CFer hitting the wall? very very likely. If a CFer doesn't run into a wall, he shouldn't be in CF.
  12. Thanks Gman for your reply, Looks like a pretty good pitching formula. And the beauty of it is that it can be flexible depending the need. Like many from long relief can do some spot starting. You can rotate from AAA to MLB..
  13. We have been super desperate in CF in the past (and very strangely no one complained) but this year we had not only one capable CF, we had 2 in Gordon & Celestino. Not only their glove been very adequate their bat weren't bad. For Cave there isn't any danger for him whatsoever in CF but any all out & vulnerable players like Buxton & Lewis it is highly dangerous & this year highly unnecessary.
  14. Good take Ted, one I was thinking about since looking at Pagan recent turn around. I think a lot of Pagan's lack of command is related to the pressure of the high leverage situation. Management doubling down on him multiplied the pressure on him. Pagan has promise, if managed correctly, he could be useful. I wouldn't DFA him unless we are desperate to add someone to the 40 man.
  15. The secondary problem was playing players who were hurt & playing well below 100%. The decision to keep Buxton off the IL & playing him well below 100% was very counter productive. We had competent players who could cover for him & could play better than him under those circumstances, while Buxton regains his productivity either by periodically place on the IL or better yet have the corrctive surgery right away & be 100% in Sept. Polanco was visibly hurting in Aug. yet they still played him ragged which drastically reduced his productivity which eventually put him on the IL for the rest of the season. Arraez was visibly hurting in Aug. also & his BA nose dived. Any sign of not playing up to par players should be rested until they recouperate. We were blessed with depth this year so resting anyone shouldn't be an issue. Along with playing Lewis in CF shows very poor medical decisions. IDK if the medical department was by-passed or our medical department is incompetent. Either way this problem should be dealt with. Correa gave a great effort down the stretch, along w/ good effort from Urshela, Gordon, Miranda + others. It'd have been great if Buxton, Polanco, Arraez & Lewis were 100% the last month or so. So poor medical decisions from obtaining Paddack & Mahle hurt to not giving much needed rest to pitchers & players who needed it to putting Lewis in jeopardy. Solution? Consult the medical team if this was done, replace the medical team.
  16. I hardly agree with you jmlease on most of your list and I'd like to add 1 from RJA, humility. Humility to check with the medical crew about signing Paddack & Mahle & go with them if they say don't, if they said IDK get a new medical team. Check with your medical team before you put Lewis in CF, if they agree w/ you get a new medical team. Not having Buxton, Polanco and Arraez playing hurt & well below 100%.Humility to change your plan & mindsets when you can see that they're not working. I'd also want them to change coaching from moonblasts to fundamentals, hitting, bunting, base stealing, throwing out runners etc. The way CLE has done it, that's the way they won. The only way they can change our attitude is winning. Not trying to show us how smart you are.
  17. Where Correa can really help Miranda is his defense and that is my sincere hope. I did not hear anything about Correa helping Lewis if so that'll be awsome.
  18. The top 3 by far out shown the rest, especially with their bats. But where Lewis distances himself from the 3 is his glove. Lewis's glove was superb while the other 2 were below par. Lewis instantly impacted the team. It was a shame that Lewis was not put in a situation to help man 3B, 2B, 1B as well as SS, immediately where they put Miranda (3B & 1B) on a steady basis. They instead moved not that far removed Lewis from rehab in hazardous CF which was absolutely ridiculous & unnecessary. My hope is that Lewis will return better than ever. But if not, it's all on management.
  19. Another way in order to profile pitchers is their stuff. In order for a pitcher to be a MLB SP he needs to have at least 3 good MLB pitches to mix it up, So that he can keep the hitters guessing & off balanced, thru at least 5 innings. If a pitcher has only 2 MLB pitches, even if they're dominating ones, normally they are put in an relief role
  20. I really don't trust some defensive stats. Urshela & Correa's defense might have dropped some but still they played pretty good defense. The problem with Polanco was that he had been playing hurt the 2nd half & kept playing him w/o any break (so his defense is expected to be bad if he's playing well below 100%) till he broke and those that relaced him Arraez, Gordon & Hamilton have been terrible. Miranda's bat is terrific but his glove leaves a lot to be desired. Now with the addition of Wallner our defense has taken on a different dimension. The Twins & Wallner need this time to try to work out some defects & to evaluate.
  21. Happy for Palacios, let's hope that opened the dam. Twins are showing especially bad defense which is to be expected with the influx of new inexperienced gloves. That's the goal giving them experience they need & better evaluate them. Good luck to Luiz & Louie, let's go out with a bang! Go Twins!
  22. As starter SWR gets my vote highest ceiling SP & Duran as RP. I think Duran still has hope in becoming a SP. Durability will come into the equation, it'd be very exciting.
  23. In the beginning of the season, I'd place Ober & Winder in the long relief category because of the fact of a shortened spring training (they needed a longer vamp up period), that they were rookies and Winder's previous injury history. Yes they were limited to around a 80 pitches when they started but under these conditions they were too many. As I've said before if a pitcher is extend beyond their profile for any amount of time, it'd more likely result in ineffectiveness & injury.
  24. I normally see 2 innings as extending short relief but even that seems to be rare. From the beginning I'd rather see Archer in the long relief role because it'd be much more beneficial for him but Archer's mentality & identity is one that needs the extended time to prepare and has that difficulty to transition. The fact that he had difficulty to go 5 innings, especially in the beginning, really disqualifies him as a SP. He'd be more qualified as an "opener", unfortunately that eliminates him of any hope of any win but is responsible for any loss that the BP let get out of hand.
