I've been disappointed with the MLB-ready players received & IMO, priority was a promising MLB-ready catcher for now. Tait is a long way off with no guarantee he'd stick at catcher. With all the proven talent we gave away, IMO, what we received was well short for a deadline return.

Why are they keeping those minority owners such a secret? If they are about change, it can't come soon enough.

Like Buxton said, he has been around. He has seen a lot of mistakes. He knows Falvey. IMO, Buck is saying no matter how miserably others fail. He will continue to do his part to try to jump-start this team to win games. He's all about winning. Once in a while, a player falls into Falvey's lap, but the majority of the time & especially recently, Falvey has failed to encourage the core who want to win by trading for someone significant to fill the holes. Nothing will change & will only get worse. Falvey has placed a shotgun to the team & riddled it full of holes that he cannot begin to plug easily. Nothing will change until you make a real change. Will Buck want to be traded if nothing changes? I don't think so, but I wouldn't blame him.

Angels 12, Twins 2: Oy vey...
Doctor Gast replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We had some players getting on base but not enough & even then, the ones that are supposed to hit them in, aren't doing their job, neither is the defense & it's easy to dream on Zebby, but he's not established yet. Twins have to focus much more on defense & clutch hitting & hope the pitching somehow gels. If Twins are able to do that & sweep the Yanks, I'd be happy.- 44 replies

What the Heck Happened to José Miranda?
Doctor Gast replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
People often show what they are feeling by their reactions & people who are observant & able to relate can often sense it. Contrary to many people's ideas, baseball isn't fantasy baseball (driven by biased stats), a video game or HR derby. It's a game played by real people controlled by many underlying conditions & intangibles. It's also a game of relationships between players, coaches, managers & FO, which each needs to be considered in each decision, not only by spreadsheets that your faulty philosophies are programmed into. There's also a relationship between the owner & fans. I didn't need a survey to know that fans wanted the Pohlads to sell (although it was more serious than I expected, which is usually the case). Is that an unfair & harmful speculation? Often, we choose to be oblivious to what's around us. Like a person who thinks their marriage is wonderful, only to be floored when one day the other asks for a divorce. Again I ask, Why do players retire? Many times it's because they don't have the heart to overcome the rehab, lack of opportunity, the grind, family priorities, etc or combinations of any of these. Kiriloff never said that he couldn't physically come back & fulfill his baseball dreams. He basically said it wasn't worth it. Not saying if someone gave him an opportunity, he wouldn't change his mind. -
What the Heck Happened to José Miranda?

It took 2 operations before they moved Polanco off SS. But that's not what I'm not talking about. I'm talking about when he injured his knee & by his performance, many knew he was playing injured. For months they kept running him out there until he could no longer take the field when the Twins weren't even in contention. That completely screwed up his knee. Polanco has always had a lot of heart, that's why he has played hurt & injured for most of his career. Kiriloff has played hurt with his wrist, shoulder & back for a long time, but he kept going out there. Why? Because of the hope to play a lot of baseball. Kiriloff's wrist probably hurt most of all. Many players have come back from back problems. Miranda did, Lee has a chronic back problem, but he's still out there. Why? The hope to play serious baseball. If you paid attention to what I said, losing heart was a part of it, not the sole reason. It's a reasonable observation (as a baseball player, how would I react if I were in the same situation), same with Miranda. I was a very big Flavine fan. I didn't wake up one morning & say I don't like Falvey's smile, so I'm against him. It's been years of observations of how Falvey & Co. operates & things I don't agree with. I believe in our players, I don't believe Falvey & Co. are perfect & all our poor performances aren't their fault, like a lot of TD members have been telling me. They have run out of excuses, so it's our players' fault; they are bad. But it appears to me that so many members are still buying everything they are selling. -
What the Heck Happened to José Miranda?
Doctor Gast replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What the Heck Happened to José Miranda? Good question. What the heck happened to Sano, Julien & a few others? In these cases & especially Sano, they were over-tweaked with Twins' faulty hitting philosophy. What the heck happened to Polanco, Miranda, Kiriloff & others? They were forced to play at positions that would keep aggravating their injuries, which greatly affected their performance & reinjuries. After Keaschall hurt his arm, he has been kept at DH/1B/2B to preserve his arm. Shortly after Miranda & Kiriloff returned from shoulder injuries, they were placed at 3B & OF in both positions, you really put a lot of stress on your arms. They both had great starts but due to readjusting their throws they both injured their backs. The point of their injuries shows the drop in their performance. Why weren't they given the same opportunity to play at DH/1B to preserve their bodies as Keaschall? I think we have to ask why did Kiriloff retired? I expect it's very demanding physically & emotionally to play at the MLB level, so you need a lot of heart. Was physically demanding rehabilitation the sole reason Kiriloff retired? IMO, it was that plus also knowing that he wasn't going to get a fair shake to compete at 1B/DH (which was easier on his body & more opportunity), so it wasn't worth it. So IMO, the Miranda's biggest problem, like Kiriloff, is that he lost heart. IMO, every promising player in the system should be given every opportunity to prove themselves & develop into the best player they can be. IMO, the Twins aren't doing this which results in players losing heart. So in one way or another we answer all these questions with mismanagement, -
Twins 12, Angels 3: The Royce Lewis Show
Doctor Gast replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was surprised that this was the 1st time Lewis played at his hometown stadium. I imagine many friends & family were there. One of the few reasons I follow the Twins is to follow Lewis & Martin's hitting after both of them have said they are going to return to their old swing again. Both are having a resurgence. As lead-off Martin got on 3X & scored 3X. Lewis got 4 RBIs. Up the middle; Outman in CF, Gasper at catcher, even Lee is solid, he's no Correa & Keaschall at 2B leaves something to be desired. Twins handily won this one but .......?- 29 replies

Twins 12, Angels 3: The Royce Lewis Show
Doctor Gast replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
SWR is still a young arm, still recovering from his illness. So at this point, 5 innings is reasonable. Even at his young age, he's mature for his age, adjusts pretty well, he keeps us in the game & is established. So I'd keep him in the rotation & let him go as long as he can which is normally 5 innings, which is fine for the time being. In time he could go longer.- 29 replies

If the Twins signed Gray, would that help us go to the postseason in '24 & '25? No doubt. If we had just a veteran inning-eater SP, IMO, we could have as well. We had Gray in '22, yet didn't reach the postseason. The big difference was Lopez in '23. Gray would have been nice, but not necessary. IMO, Ryan's statement was more motivated by the whole team's frustration with the lack of effort by the FO to build off the great '23 core. Even with a limited salary & a handle on what needed to be done,; they could have traded to fill the fragile areas. But they made the team weaker by their transactions, even before the sell-off. I wouldn't doubt it if Ryan wants to be traded this offseason.

Twins tried to force him at SS & become a slugger when he 1st came here, that didn't work. Finally, in '23, they left him alone to play mainly 2B; he played well. In '24, they wanted to convert him to a full-time MLB OFer w/o any development & tinker with his swing again. Martin is a product of the Twins, constantly trying to make him into someone he isn't, not maximizing on who he is. An OB machine, terror on the bases 2Bman. Again, he's stated that he'll return to his old swing & again he's shown improvement. Leave his swing alone. He's 2Bman that rarely plays there & has adjusted to be a pretty good LFer. Because he's not a slugger yet, people don't give him much worth. But he's still a very good asset to the Twins if he were better assessed, he'd have been a better one. As a baserunner, he'll figure it out, w/o much help from Watkins.

Week in Review: Avert Your Eyes
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with everything you said. Falvey has used every excuse in the book; health (mismanaged), coaches (they did what they were told), not enough $ to spend on desired FAs (whom he'd overpay), no players available to trade for (although many team were able to do so), & now it's the players' fault, the players are bad. Heaven forbid that the players weren't developed in defense, baserunning or fundamentals, they micro-managed every player to hit a certain way or play a certain position that they were unable to master, were mismanaged, fail to create a favorable atmosphere with their players that if they put in the work & show promise, they get a legit chance to make the MLB. Yes, the players were disappointing in general, but was it their fault? Were they the ones who deserved to get the axe? -

Pohlads' right-sizing, Falvey & Co.'s long-failed weird analytics philosophies that negatively affected all areas of development & management. Has killed all hope in this team. We can survive right-sizing & become more like MIL. But we can't survive management's incompetence in evaluating, developing, managing & trading players. There's nothing that Falvey can do to instill any hope in this team. Our best hope is to fire Falvey immediately, Pohlads you want keep the Twins? Then show fans that you care enough about winning & not worry about hurting Falvey's feelings. Get someone in who knows what he is doing. Or next season will be very disastrous for you!!!!!! I didn't trust Falvey to head this deadline sell-off. Trading Pablo would throw us deeper into this abyss that would add many more years to any semblance of returning to a competitive team. -
Hope Buxton & Ober are both OK. Caps off to them. Ober had a good game & Buck had his 1st 30 HR season. I like Pereda. A nice win against a good team. Good analyst.

They should have put him on the IL to begin the season & let him heal then, instead of keeping throwing him out there. They kept throwing Polanco on the field when he injured his knee; they screwed up knee & career. So, if his hip is still sore. Yeah, pull him. Why jeopardize his career for nothing?

IMO, Twins' philosophy is to place a player according to his bat not his glove is very detrimental. They have done that with several players. Every time I watch Gonzalez, he shows me his glove doesn't fit in LF & that his glove costs us runs.

IMO, there were a lot of reasons the Twins didn't make it to the postseason besides the pitching cratering. Castro was an All-star in the 1st half but because he was overstretched covering for Buxton & Correa, he ran out of gas, Baldelli trying to fit Margot & Julien in the line-up. Buxton & Correa both MIA when we needed them the most. Lewis & Lee also running out of gas & the change of chemistry that ran over to this season. Yes we had crappy hitting but why? That's what we need to look at.

Anything can happen in baseball. Twins are living proof of that. If Twins sweep NYY, that'd demoralize them. What were the odds of CWS cleaning our clock? Don't spoil my last hope for this season.

Twins were expected to trade away the expiring contracts. Their decision to go beyond that sent a message loud & clear to the Twins' fans. "We are not only waving a white flag for this season, but for many seasons to come, to right-size the team". Which was a very bad decision, because we sold off those who could help the team to compete & putting Falvey in charge of the sell-off meant not getting who we needed, not getting full value & bloating our system with redundant players who he'll never trade away. Trading away Pablo Lopez & Joe Ryan will only magnify the situation by further bloating the system, where we'll lose good players via Rule 5 Draft & have many deserving players stuck in MiLB, becoming very disheartened. IMO, the atmosphere is toxic & will only get worse. If Falvey couldn't produce a postseason team from the great '23 core; How can he produce one from a deeply fractured core? He can't. If we can't win with Lopez & Ryan then we just as well trade them away & save some more money for the Pohlads. I have a better solution, a solution they should have done a long time ago. Clean house, Falvey & Co. & get someone in who knows what he's doing. Otherwise, forget about it.

Things are the way they are. Under the circumstances, it wasn't so bad (Even though I didn't watch it). Pablo pitched much better than I expected coming off a lengthy IL. Got a look at Pereda, which inspired some hope (maybe we can move on from Gasper & Julien). Let me break it to you, we aren't making the postseason (I dealt with that after the offseason). So, I don't mind losing to KC if there is a chance for them to beat out NYY for the last WC, fine. My hope is for them to sweep NYY. Then I"d say we had a good season. :- )

You haven't been paying attention, thanks to Baldelli this year is wasted. With so few regular ABs this season combined with his short time in AAA, a 109 RC+ is not bad.

An Ode to Byron Buxton's Best Season Yet
Doctor Gast replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton has always been a special person on or off the field & in the clubhouse. I've always been a 100% Buxton fan & always will be. I've said it before & I'll say it again, it's a shame that Falvey had not put in the little effort to add to the great '23 core to advance in the postseason & reward the effort that Buxton has made the last 2 years. -
I like Gasper as a person but he's no catcher. With his time with BOS, who was hurting a lot for catching, never once used Gasper at catcher. We have desperately needed a promising young catcher as a 3rd catcher to be mentored to be a viable catcher for next season for years but especially this year. Why have we wasted this time on Gasper, who should be gone next season?
