I like your reasoning. But we also have to consider Vazquez is getting older & may have to play less, IMO, Pereda won't be able to take up the slack (even if he turns out) plus Tait is a ways away (even if he makes it at all). So IMO, We still need a promising young MLB-ready catcher to round it off next season.

Derek Falvey’s Pitch for Hope in Twins Territory
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
LOL! How can he believe that anyone falls for that BS anymore, besides the Pohlads? Falvey has failed on so many levels. They can't develop, have terrible philosophy, terrible player evaluation in all aspects (like in trades, needs & position players), can't initiate an essential trade, say one thing, do another, so players have no idea what they are doing, that plus not being able to put together a competitive team, the club culture is bad. There is no way they can put together a competitive team in '26 or anytime soon. There is no hope as long as he is at the helm. Only when they change management can we start to have hope,- 64 replies

IMO, Twins are scared to veer off the analytical plan & the micro-managing that comes with it. Our roster has lot to be desired, our defense & learning to be acquired. Without the present running game, we'd be much worse than what we are now. Fundamentals like running bases, bunting & defense have to be incorporated into the '26 team.

IMO, Buxton's big injury bug is behind him, The injury bug where you can't recover over the offseason. Buxton has been healthy entering the offseason, which is a good sign for the following season. Too bad Twins unloaded a good chunk of the '23 core. Ober is a very good SP, when healthy is dependable. I have mentioned this before, I was ready to give up on Funderburk. But He has proven himself to me since the deadline. He should be a dependable RP next year. I have no idea what he has done. Mahle has been a pretty good SP for TX. He had a good game against us with only a leadoff HR. Wish him well

Who Will Be The Minnesota Twins' Closer in 2026?
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins have a rich history of developing closers dating back to Al Worthington, later to Reardon & Aguilera. etc. Falvey passed on Pressley & Rogers & have tried to develop Coloume', J Lopez, Duffy & Pagan to be closers. In the process, Duran & Jaxs imerged as closer & set-up man. Duran was traded along with Jaxs & Steward. Varland had shown some ability to step up to that role but he was traded. Gutting our BP with nobody to take over the closer role. Closer role isn't that easy to fill. Sands isn't ready if ever. Next year will be very difficult to have a pitcher step up any time soon. IMO, Prielipp can become a closer but not there yet. Maybe Bradley can become our next Varland but that'll take time. There is doubt about Festa's arm condition. IMO, our AAA relief prospects are disappointing. It's ridiculous to look to FAs because of the letting go of our reasonable pitchers & new pitchers coming in to try to get used to a new organization. IMO, it's delusional to think that Twins can magically fill so many holes & answering so many ????????????s over night.- 64 replies

The days of bomba squad & the Twins' "all or nothing' approach are long gone, but the effects still linger. Sano couldn't adapt; Larnach has adapted but lost his power & Wallner is looking for a happy medium. This year has had a career HR season, but also SOs, but the fact that he has career PAs, his SO rate has been better. The big deal to many fans is slugging & OPS. But what good is it if you hit solo HRs when we don't need them (low leverage)? & getting outs when we do (high leverage)? I like Wallner & IMO he isn't a bad RFer but wish he were more clutch.

Probably, too many of us have been bad boys, so we've gotten coal in our stockings the last couple of years. We'd better shape up.

It was strange to see Michael Helman in CF, he's been a bright spot for TX. Bradley was the only hopeful that can help us next season, out of the sell-off. And he was a last-minute, unexpected acquisition.

Twins 4, Rangers 1: The Piranhas Strike Again
Doctor Gast replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
???????????? I never stated anything about NYY position now!!!!!!!!!!! That was never the point, I stated about BOS position & them not taking advantage of NYY vulnerability, therefore IMO, not deserving to be in the postseason & hoping DET knocks them out of it. If you want to talk about the NYY (which wasn't my main point). Any long-time, red-blooded Twins fan enjoys a NYY loss almost as much as a Twins win. NYY is not a good team that should have lost to the lowly CWS. Twins & BOS should have taken care of business against them to keep them reeling but they rolled over & played dead. NYY are doomed in the playoff if they don't get home field & a bye. But thanks to teams like BOS, MN, MLB referees & officials who are biased towards NYY they might get just that. & as a long-time, red-blooded Twins fan, I'm pissed about that. -

Doctor Gast replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't always trust CERA either. I think it's interesting, though, that Vazquez & Pereda have not been developed by MN, I don't consider Gasper really as a catcher & Jeffer's foundation has been established by Tanner Swanson who's long gone. Where are the catchers that MN should be developing? BTW, I agree with you that since maybe Vazquez is gone & if Pereda stays. Pereda is the priority. He needs a lot of time to develop a good relationship with the pitchers. -

Twins 4, Rangers 1: The Piranhas Strike Again
Doctor Gast replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO, Vazquez's experience could have helped Zebby with his success. Although I'm all in for Pereda to get more experience, IMO, Vazquez could be valuable to help the younger arms. Pereda is on the taxi squad isn't he? I expect him to get more chances behind the plate before the end of the season. -
All on the bubble & likely nontendered are gone. IMO, Larnach should get something back in trade. Because of a lack of BP, there's a good chance that Tonkin comes back. There might be some that wanted to be traded, mainly Ryan. I don't think Lewis likes the direction of the team, but he'll stay. Jeffers is in his last year, so usually, Falvey likes to trade those players (many I'd like them to extend). Falvey has banked on Jeffers & I'm all in on extending Jeffers to a team-friendly extension, but Boras as his agent kinda defeats that purpose. I'm against signing him to an exorbitant extension & being so dependent on him. It'll be interesting how that ends up (I think?)

I agree that the CO series was the straw that broke the camel's back that gave the Pohlads the excuse to unload their salary, this season. But the downfall came from FO in the '23/'24 offseason. They chipped away from the '23 core while acquiring players like DeSclavani & Margot, mismanaging our players like Alcala & plugged in players like Juliens into positions where they were a liability. They failed to see our fragile areas & bolster them via trade. The Twins' inability & lack of doing anything to put the team in a position to compete in the '24 & '25 seasons, have broken the spirit of the team. This season's sell-off was a cop out for the FO & steering the blame off them onto the core. IMO, the sell-off return was a disappointment, as those acquired will do very little to produce a competitive team for years to come, especially if the management remains. The sell-off also caused greater discontent & affected the culture of the team. IMO, players like Ryan may want to be traded.

Twins 4, Rangers 1: The Piranhas Strike Again
Doctor Gast replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It has been said that CLE is the luckiest team. They are the luckiest because they don't prioritize the stats that dominate most teams. But I contest that CLE isn't lucky; they are smart. They prioritize the fundamentals & strengths of each one of their players (not trying to fit every player into their mold). They have stuck with their own players & developed them & they have kept rewarding CLE, every time the league has written them off. (I wish Falvey had adopted this philosophy). I am cheering them on. I'm cheering DET & CLE, each represents the Central division in the playoffs. BOS has let me down by not beating the Yanks. So I hope TOR (Varland, Popkins, & Berrios) cleans their clock so they can hold off NYY & DET beat them & knock them out of the playoffs. -
Twins 4, Rangers 1: The Piranhas Strike Again
Doctor Gast replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I applaud the Twins for opening up the running game. For letting the runners get the feel (instinct) for when to run & when not to & not depend on base coaches. Distracting pitchers & fielders so they make mistakes rather than allowing them to freely get into their groove. Now I didn't watch the game, & I couldn't find in the highlights; but even when Martin was gunned down at home, IMO, he distracted the fielder from turning a DP, thus ending the inning & rally. I also applaud Zebby with his command & the BP. Funderburk (LHP) has quietly been dependable (I had been ready to give up on him). Defense, along with baserunning, pitching & clutch hitting (fundamentals), is the key to success next season. Defense needs to improve, where we need to put the best defensive players in the key positions. -
It doesn't make any sense when they accepted Rodon & Outman in trades. When we had LH OFers Larnach, Wallner, Keirsey, Clemens and Emma on the roster with Jenkins not far behind. True that most are questionable or unproven but what are Rodon & Outman? IMO, Keaschall makes a much better LFer than 2Bman & Martin makes a better 2Bman than LFer when focused there. Twins & fans have to change their mindset in how to evaluate their players from HR sluggers that strikeout a lot when you need someone OB, that can't run the bases or play defense. To someone who gets OB when you need, runs bases, bunts & plays defense. Martin is a better hitter against LHPs but has a good OBP against RHPs, so he can be a good everyday player. Twins have spent too much time on Martin to force him into a player he isn't. It's about time they let him be the outstanding player that he is.

I absolutely hate to see the Twins trade away Ryan. I would absolutely not revisit anything resembling that trade offer with BOS. The top priority during the trade deadline in trading away our valuable players should have been gaining impact young MLB-ready players to plug into our roster at our greatest needs of at catcher & SP. That didn't happen, which IMO was a great failure. If Ryan asks to be traded, (I would not blame him & I would not trust Falvey to pull off a desirable trade). So I'm pulled in both directions. Even if he wants to be traded, I would not trade him if Falvey is still in charge, but if we have someone different who knows what he's doing. Then yeah, I would

Agreed, very good news that he shouldn't be traded. Still that isn't negating the fact that Twins wanted him back before the season to show he's healthy before the offseason. I choose to believe that Lopez wanted to come back because he's a competitive player, not because he wanted to be traded. (But as I state it, it sounds less likely the case). Nevertheless, what's done is done. & happy in what seems like he'll stay. The season is shot either way.

I'm a big supporter of our players. I understand their frustration of wanting to win, but the FO is doing nothing viable to make that happen. I'm sick & tired of them not being developed properly & mismanaged on so many levels. I'm sick & tired of bad player evaluation on who should be promoted, demoted & traded. I'm sick & tired of their inability to make viable & essential trades to cover our weak areas, I'm sick & tired of hoarding redundant prospects, I'm sick & tired of all their excuses & their cosmetic solutions, which don't do any good. I'm sick & tired of their weird analytical philosophies void of any human elements. To sum it all up, I'm sick & tired of Falvey. His firing is long overdue.

Yes, Larkin has done a great job reinventing himself. Believe me, I'd have liked if MLB hadn't figured them out but they did. Julien is having a much more difficult time adjusting, plus he has nothing to offer w/o his slugging. If he does adjust to be more of a contact hitter, he doesn't fit the 1B profile.
