    Thanks Cody, he has been on my radar, his character is what stands out & I wanted to find out more about him. He basically plays 2B so it'll be super difficult to break through to MLB with MN with such a high glut of 2Bmen. But I'm rooting for him to find his way.

    If the Twins hadn't thrown money away on positions that were sufficiently filled with in-house players. along with Pohlads throwing in a few million & I wouldn't mind trading away Gonzales for Scherzer & having TEX throw in a few million, it'd be nice to have a healthy Scherzer going into the postseason. It's a fine line & blown money in the offseason, blows our chances of getting a Scherzer.

    In some cases it's valuable when you have a prospect who is doubtful to start to have a veteran place holder. But this season at 1B & OF, we had several seasoned young players who needed playing time to blossom there. Getting Santana & Margot blocked Miranda, Kiriloff, Larnach, Wallner, Martin, Keirsey & Julien from much-needed playing time. As you can see we have quite the quality pool to fall back on w/o the need to get a veteran placeholder. I had no doubt that Martin could excel at the MLB level defensively & offensively in the OF (even though the wasted years at SS) because he's so athletic. Not only Margot blocks his playing time but also because Margot can't hit RHPs, to prop Margot up, he hits only against LHPs & (RH) hitting Martin are left to face only RHPs. This puts the Twins & Martin at a disadvantage. Before Keirsey was put on the IL he was tearing it up at AAA & deserving a MLB call up but because of Margot that couldn't happen. Proven bats, Miranda (RH) & Kiriloff (LH) coming off arm injuries needed to be fixed at 1B to ensure their health & production, would be a formidable duo at 1B were blocked by Santana & were forced to play a more physically demanding position. Santana & Margot both started the season very poorly & now showing value. They are both due for regression & they have a market, so trading both makes sense. To liberate our superior in-house players & recoup some of the money spent. Farmer is a different story. He was kept because of the loss of Polanco. He also had a terrible start but has shown progress which IMO is sustainable. If we trade Margot & Santana that can free up Lee, but eventually Wallner, Kiriloff, Julien & Keirsey will bang down that door. Farmer becomes vulnerable. IMO he doesn't have the market the 2 have & he could be useful in mentoring Lee. But his days are numbered.

    I think you're good Ted. I appreciate FlyingFinn post but those that follow certain prospects dig a little deeper to get that info the rest may not care. I'm fine either way.

    One thing we need to take into consideration is that these stats are based on the average defense production of all the players that play that position. When looking at a 1Bman practically no team put any importance on defense, instead how many HRs the guy can hit (IMO rightfully so). Many teams during the "shift era" would hide their defense-deficient power hitters at 2B & have yet evolved them out for more range-proficient ones. Thus creating a poor defense pool, the bar is lower & the completion is less, hopefully, the Twins can change this "shift era" type of thinking to become more competitive. While at the prime positions of catcher, SS & CF, defense is crucial & the defense pool quality is much higher raising the bar & competition for that position. Also, it's futile to gauge the players at this point because there some players who really work to get their defense stats up but they aren't able to sustain that performance throughout the year.

    IMO Correa should be higher, Julien lower & Santana lower & who cares? I'm still scratching my head over Guerrero's GG selection.

    LAD is complex they have multiple objectives. Like when they wanted to dump a disgruntled Maeda as their primary objective, their secondary objective was to land our top pitching prospect. LAD was motivated to sell & we shouldn't had to trade Graterol. Actually Graterol was ear tagged to be a RP & Balazovik was the top SP prospect which I advocated to replace Graterol. FO caved. Dump Margot was the primary objective but obtaining Miller was the secondary. Again LAD was motivated to dump Margot & we didn't have to trade Miller. Here FO blew it again.

    I admit I wasn't in the meeting when they decided to trade Miller. But you can glean a lot when you observe people's actions more than what they say. You can see what their priorities are. LAD has a great reputation of player evaluation & development. Oh, you're a good friend of De Andrade! Say hi back. tell him I'm sorry but he hasn't proven to me that he can absolutely be an above-average SS or even stick there much less or if he can hit at the same time.

    That's what I meant when I said that I wouldn't use him much more than 1X through the order. And it's evident that he's having difficulty to be used as a SP but has been very effective as RP.

    Here is his scouting report " If he loses some quickness, second base may be his long-term home and he saw time at three infield spots in 2023". Miller was traded because LAD could see his potential & appreciate his elite glove & MN couldn't & didn't appreciate his elite glove but drooled over Doncon's raw power. IMO as Doncon matures he'll lose his quickness & get moved off SS. IMO the Twins are full of pseudo-SSs with big bats. After Lee graduates from MiLB our level at SS will drop drastically. After Correa can no longer play SS, Lee & Lewis are considered replacements. While they have great bats, Miller has the superior glove & as he develops into the switch-hitting contact hitter he was scouted as. He should have been the top contender for the vacancy. If I had a choice between an elite GG SS that can get on base & a slugging 2Bman. I choose the prior any day of week because that type of player at a prime position is hard to come by.

    I've been promoting Varland's role in the Twins since the beginning of the season. & I've been criticized every time because of Varland's poor outings in AAA. Yet he gets promoted & used in the right way & produces on the MLB level. Then he's sent down & told to focus on "this" & gets pounded. Varland's situation is much like spring training & in his case his production in AAA is irrelevant. At the same time, I advocated for Alcala to be brought up & used correctly & the time that he was used incorrectly shouldn't be counted against him. Now he's stayed up being used correctly & impacting the Twins. I wished you had used my whole quote, that'd have made things a little clearer.

    Lewis is a rare breed, someone special who has veered away from being put in a mold of hitting a certain way. Instead he has developed his own unique hitting approach that adjusts to everything. all the time. I knew he'd hit HRs although he doesn't focus on HRs but it's crazy how many HRs that he generates. From the beginning, I knew he was someone special with his character, attitude & feel for the game that he'd succeed no matter what. When he was struggling with hitting in the minors. I knew he'd find himself, When he was hurt that he'd come back yet he showed that he could come back better than ever. I have faith that he'd overcome any obstacle that faces him because of his faith. I'm not a big extension guy but I'd extend him as fast I can because he loves baseball. he loves to play on this team & he has great things ahead of him.

    I don't understand why in the getaway with a good TB, the Twins devasted their left side. No Correa at SS, no Lewis at 3B & no Castro at LF. Instead of resting these guys for a home game, why not rest these guys separately on away OAK games? And try to win the rubber game. The game was winnable, with the win we'd have won the series plus we'd have entered the OAK series more confident to sweep the series & erase that bad loss there. We'd be in a much better position going into AZ & SEA

    You took the words out of mouth Brian! I think that it's ridiculous that (RH) Martin isn't played against LHPs, where (RH) Margot & Farmer only play against LHPs & even (SH) Santana plays extensively against LHPs. IMO it's a waste & these guys are lauded & Martin is underrated because he's not put in a situation to explode. Martin can far outproduce these guys if allowed. IMO we need to trade these guys to make room for our guys. Braves need a OFer, trade them Margot. Astros need a 1Bman, trade them Santana.

    Julien only struck out once, If he keeps this up along with getting on base, I hope they bring him up soon. They need to put Severino at DH to give Julien more time at 1B, while he's down there. Varland isn't this bad. There are serious underlying conditions, where he can't pitch in AAA but up at MLB he can. Twins need to ditch their playbook & deal with this problem. Paddack is having problems with being over-extended. Bring up Varland to help limit Paddack's innings, have Varland go at least 1X through the order & let him little by little work on what he needs to work on. At the same time, you kill 2 birds with one stone. Overdue is better than never.

    Great summary, Hans! Great battery of pitch selection! OAK were looking for sweepers & change-ups & got mainly FBs plus mixing in pitches very well. The Buck Truck arrived with needed deliveries of runs! With great pitching efforts from Ober & Lopez. the pressure is on Ryan to do the same against AZ.

    I consider Alcala as a setup man. I'm in favor of keeping our high-leverage RPs fresh especially Alcala who is coming off an arm injury. To ensure this we need long relief.

    We can disagree about the definition of pull-happy, I compared him to Buxton, who also goes the other way sometimes but IMO tries to pull the ball too often. Nor did mentioned that his sole problem is because he likes to pull the ball, although that contributes. Your statement of his problem matches pretty much what I wrote earlier in my text.

    We have practically the same roster except Gray, who won the division & advanced in the postseason. We had great new players coming up in SWR, Varland, Paddack, Martin, healthy Buxton, Polanco, Miranda & Kiriloff to help strengthen our weak areas. The FO could have picked up a postseason-caliber SP to fill that gap if they wanted to use players & prospects that were expendable but chose not to. We weren't even close to landing FAs Gray, Snell or Montgomery.Im They instead chose to add DeSclavani, Topa, Margot & Santana. to replace SWR, Varland, Martin, Keirsey, Miranda, Julien, Kiriloff & Lee. IMO we have a great team now that Lewis is back, We need to do some fine-tuning & synchronize the hitting, defense & pitching to all fire at the same time. We could still probably need a postseason SP.
