I like this line-up -
I knew who he was but I don't know everybody. So it'd be nice to put a name with a number.

I wouldn't take Snell even if he was healthy & had a lower price tag, Verlander will not be for sale, I don't trust Cobb's health & Blackburn, IMO not worth risk. Normally I wouldn't go for a recently injured SP who isn't 100% & doesn't know how soon or if he'll be 100% & then go through the ramp-up. One idea of mine is (CIN) Montas. Montas is 100%, coming off past injuries. He has also gone the same path as Sonny Gray. Ace for OAK, stumbled in NYY & recovered in CIN then traded to MN, where he's developed into a CY candidate. Since Montas has the same path as Gray, could that mean they have the same destination? I liked both Gray & Montas while in OAK & I like to think so. IMO he'll be a cheap rental. What do you think?

I like your rationale, Matthew. This is going to be a seller's market. Meaning that too many teams in the hunt to make the postseason & very few options to buy from. There are a few rumors that competing teams will unload expiring contracts. Kepler will be gone next year, the Twins won't pay the QO to keep him #1 too expensive #2 Kepler isn't worth it #3 Kepler'll take it. So to get something this is the best time to do it. Since Kepler'll be gone next season, doesn't it make sense to have the one who'll stay have that precious playing time? Not only that'll count for this postseason but also future ones. Besides Kepler's LH bat, he has his calling card glove that any club could use, To replace Kepler's (LH) bat we have Larnach, Wallner & Kiriloff whose D is good enough to play RF. & we have Keirsey to do more than make up for his glove. I'd like to extend this idea to also Margot, Santana & even Farmer if we can find a trade partner. Yes, these guys are starting to hit, even more, reason to trade them because it's easier to trade them for better pieces. Margot & Farmer will be very easy to replace & Miranda, Julien, Severino & Kiriloff can replace Santana especially if he's due to regress. The money that'll be gained from trading away these players will be considerable. So we can pay for a very good postseason SP salary. Again these guys will be gone next year, so why not give this valuable playing time to someone who'll be here next season? IMO it makes a lot of sense, so unfortunately, I doubt it'll ever happen.

Coming into '24 season, SEA & MN matched up pretty closely. SEA may have had a better rotation, but RPs, defense, the "all or nothing" approach & dumping their biggest SO hitters are the same. Like MN, the league had the book against SEA. IMO MN has responded well to adapt & SEA has not, this area we need to capitalize more. SEA has been winning their games with pitching & defense & their offense has sucked. When SEA dumps their hitting approach they'll be a great force to deal with. If not HOU may catch them. It's nice to win these blowout games but we'll need to find out how to win the close ones. Buxton has figured out that it's best to empty your head with analytics & go with how you feel & the flow. See ball/ hit ball.

Two Twins Needing Big Second Half Turnarounds
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lopez last 4 games & 5 out of the last 6 games has been good to great. Duran velo has been down, so he has to learn how to be a pitcher, IMO his velo will return but in the mean time we may need to depend more on Jax & Alcala. -
IDK for sure but IMO maybe Varland was over-eager to return to MLB & over did the change-ups to perfect it. This outing IMO he was conservative with his CUs with much better results. Lee, Keirsey, Julien, Wallner & Severino are having good ABs with very few SOs among them. All of these should be up in the MLB. If there is no room, make room. Put Varland in the BP, trade-off some players but please give our young players an opportunity to shine. Just think of the impact of (SH) Lee & Severino, (LH) Keirsey, Wallner, Julien & Kiriloff when he's healthy will have on predominate RHPs? I'll start to note Adams. The pipeline that have been trickling is starting to flow.

Poor nite for the system. CR snuck one out & DSL. I honestly thought that Boushley would get the nod. Boushley & Keirsey had a good game against a tough Iowa team.

I think Miranda needs some attention, he could be added to the MVP honorable mentions or the most improved. LVP award doesn't exist, it's an award you created to keep the social media's Vazquez negative hype train rolling. Most of the players that were acquired who had poor starts were limited to a LHSPs-only diet. Vazquez & Martin have been on an LHSP-banned diet especially since Jeffers had been in a slump. The last LHSP, Vazquez started but it lasted only 1 AB before Twins knocked him out. So stats can be deceiving. All hitters who were demoted were best positioned as RF/ 1B/ DH which demands the players to really mash the ball. I grant you that Vazquez is a poor hitter & give you credit for mentioning that Vazquez is one of the best defensive catchers. But IMO saying that Vazquez is one of the best defensive catchers (at a key position) & listing him as the LVP is an oxymoron. It's almost as bad as listing one of the best SPs as the LVP, because he can't hit. I know I'll get a lot of thumbs-downs (boos) by social-media hype lovers but I don't care.

This was a tough pitching battle and Ober pitched a good game. Twins hit the ball hard & didn't fall in & SEA had some weak balls that fell in. Unlike many think, defense is important. It was concerning to begin the game with Margot in CF & Miranda at 3B. Not that Miranda is a bad 3Bman but to better our odds I preferred Lewis playing there if Correa or Buxton are not playing. Every play at catcher is a tough play, most of the time Vazquez makes superb plays & nothing is said but if he misses a play he's railed upon. Vazquez is not Superman but he's a better catcher than most. Defense is important, that's why Vazquez should play more not less. If I had my way we wouldn't need Vazquez but the way things stand we do. So you'll never see me complaining about Vazquez. Because the alternative would be much worse.

I was thinking the same thing. But IMO Boras doesn't work that way. I'm not much to extend a player so early into his career, especially having Boras as an agent. But I'll take an exception with Lewis. Lewis is the type of player you want to have as a lifer. Having his attitude, joy & talents that greatly affects the whole team. His 1st ACL was a freak accident of a sunny Southern Cal young man's confrontation with ice. 2nd is the bad judgment of putting him in CF, Keep him in the INF we'll be fine. Soft tissue especially shortly after return will happen. Going forward I don't see there'll be a real issue. But his past, is a bargaining chip that can be used & he loves to play here. we can use in our favor. The longer we wait more costly it'll become. It could become now or never. I'm a believer, make it a priority, and extend him now.

What we really need is a LHRP. (MIA) Tanner Scott will be well-procured but A.J. Pukk has been very solid in the BP. He'd be cheap to pick up. One SP that has intrigued me lately is (CIN) Montas. I looked at Montas having the same path as Sonny Gray. Being the ace of OAK, going to NYY & having problems there, having injury problems & going to CIN to get some of those problems worked out. His injury problems are behind him, he's in his last year and wouldn't cost us anything. A prospect can be added to have CIN pay down his salary. Like Gray, MN could work wonders on his potential talents.

Love your post & I agree with you Brian 100%. I have written about it. If you have holes that you don't have reliable young in-house players to fill those holes then yes get a good veteran. But if you have quality young in-house positional depth superior to any veteran you may get on a limited budget. You go with your superior in-house players like CLE has done. CLE was highly criticized for basically standing pat. Because reporters prefer you making bad moves (then laude you) than have nothing for them to report about. If you made a few bad moves you had a good offseason if did nothing like CLE you had a terrible offseason. If you have faith in your good young players & give them playing time, they'll get better & add value to your team. If you pick up some inferior veterans, they come & go & add nothing to your team. Like you said just playing young players doesn't guarantee a good team going forward. CO is playing some young players & they pay their players well but they don't have a very good team it's because they don't have very good player evaluation & development. That has to go hand in hand.

I'd like to add a quote from George Brett & a site to listen to an interview with him if anyone is interested. George Brett on “launch angle” philosophy: “I get in arguments all the time with hitting coaches and players today . . . My bat [was] coming through the zone on the same plane as the ball. That’s why I didn’t strike out. Nowadays players strike out all the time, because their bat is in and out of the zone, on the same plane as the ball, for a short period of time. I will go to my grave vowing that my theory is better than they’re teaching now.” 3,154 hits. George Brett knows what he is talking about. Hope you enjoy the full podcast. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the Here George Brett blames "launch angles" but IMO it goes beyond that, which creates holes in a person's swing. There's more I can say about that but I'll end with what Buck said recently about having his brain full of things to try to do that he loses the feel of the AB (my paraphrase). I stated a little while ago about how bad PIT pitch coaching was & how pitchers blossomed after leaving there, Gerrit Cole was one example. I got a rebuttal that Gerrit Cole was always a monster. Here is a statement contrary. "And yet as Cole adhered to the organization’s pitching philosophy, prioritizing efficiency and soft contact, the results were only good, not great. “Not the monster we know today,” said Ron Wolforth, founder of Texas Baseball Ranch. Cole struck out less than a batter per inning for the Pirates."
