  1. Bundy goes 4 innings is not the best start for any teams bullpen. The Twins have a very thin relief corps. Falvey watches the games as do opposing GMs, which might make it hard to trade. Who knows if other teams even see any value additions from the Twins system. The offense is going to be under pressure to perform and I'm hoping they can perform up to outsized expectations.
  2. Many baseball fans use baseballtradevalues.com when looking to find a way to improve their team via trades. The site has low values for most Twins prospects. While I don't place much regard towards the numbers attached to the players it is very possible that more than a few teams across baseball have a similar dim view of the Twins prospects which means it might be difficult for the MN team to complete any meaningful trades. For those who value the Twins prospects quite highly and are generally opposed to the trading of the team's prospects this is good news, because perhaps nobody wants any of the minor leaguers from the Twins system.
  3. What would it take to pry away Lopez from the Orioles?
  4. I agree with this and choose to keep Polanco, Arraez, Kirilloff, Lewis, and Miranda. Let's find out what the others, some outfielders, and pitching prospects can real in this week. The Twins need at least two pitchers.
  5. Well, maybe unlikely but trade for Castillo. The hypothetical trade seems fair for both teams, the goal. Substitute Balazovic or Canterino for Winder, that's fine too.
  6. The Twins need to make consistent hard contact and Miranda, Kirilloff, Polanco, Kepler, and Correa can follow the success of Arraez in doing so, even if they are not expected to reach Luis' lofty contact status. These guys have excellent batting skills and will carry them through the season. Look for Gordon to improve as well. Bats will lead this team. Falvey needs to add at least two pitchers via trade.
  7. This was a really big pick for the Twins. Although all baseball draft choices are iffy to some degree, I can't remember the last time I felt so confident in the first two picks. Of course, unlike other sports, we will need to wait a couple of years to see Brooks Lee and Connor Prielipp.
  8. Barring a surprising trade Sano is likely to become the RH PH that replaces Garlick, despite the recent poor numbers of Miguel against LH pitching. Urshela is solid depth right now and I would be surprised if he would return a good relief pitcher. The idea makes sense. Miranda is going to get a crash course in the post season at 3B. He can play there now but does need to get better. So perhaps Urshela does draw interest now and allows for a useful return. I think Sano stays but will not be surprised by any move. The Twins need pitching and that remains the focus for this week.
  9. Sure, why not. Maybe Colorado sees Cavaco, Sabato, or Severino as fair trade. It is tough to know what the Rockies would ask in return.
  10. To be fair my handle gives my bias away. Still, as a coach and player i used various forms of maths (analytics) quite extensively since the early 1990s. Math is always useful, especially in solving problems and construction, but there is also such a thing as experience based on a multitude of factors. One-when certain players state in unequivocal terms the excellence of a player of their generation I give that some weight. This is particularly true when the player is a legend and rarely offers such praise. Tony Oliva was such a player, receiving accolades from those who seldom spoke in reverence of their opponents. Analytics have their place in baseball but they are ever evolving and should always be considered as relative to other factors.
  11. How many times did you go to games where these two players were active?
  12. False. Pete Rose fully confessed to betting on games for the record. It is history. Whether betting on games when playing and/or managing, both of which Rose did, deserves a lifetime ban can be discussed or debated. Rose did have a spectacular career, that is never in dispute.
  13. Twins offense showed up and we can hope the offense is the best in baseball going forward. The first game after the All Star game was a success and did show a need for Falvey to add a few pitchers via trades too. Ryan was fine and looked ready to exit. I am not always in agreement with the team strategies concerning pitchers but nobody should ever compare any Twin to Verlander. The Twins haven't had a pitcher capable of a decade of dominance since Blyleven. Johan was a miracle whose career merits massive praise but didn't last more than a decade. Verlander, Kershaw, Greinke, and Scherzer are special players. Ryan is having a terrific rookie season and I would suggest he has been handled well thus far.
  14. Berrios, Gibson, Graterol, and Hendricks come to mind and I don't regret the loss of those guys really. The post refers to prospects though and I would agree with those who suggest that the Twins have had some problems developing a strong pitching staff. There have been many lauded prospects in the past who floundered and Twins fans, myself included, are very hopeful for the current batch of prospects. Nevertheless, they are just prospects and none are currently among the top 10 RH or LH prospects in the game as Gonsalves and many others were in the past. Like I have stated, I have hope for the current prospects but the Twins should do whatever they can within reason to add a pitcher like Luis Castillo because these type of pitchers are not very plentiful. My opinion is that the Twins need to make a few trades this week because this team has a shot as much as any Twins team from the last 20 years. The waiting for Fernando Romero or Jordan Balazovic is a fun hopeful journey but once in a while a little sprinkling of a Castillo would be nice for a change.
  15. If he could be a good relief pitcher ... maybe, otherwise no because the Twins already have the same guy without trading or paying any extra salary.
  16. So many attempts and many are increasingly worthy of attention yet keeping track of defensive efficiency is still quite difficult. Personally, I feel more confident in watching a player. Still, that doesn't work if I cannot see enough players or games, which is impossible. So the rankings and metrics are worth a look. As far as the Twins go, Correa seems low because he makes everything look easy from all angles. Kepler is always good too. The remainder of the Twins are not more than average, although Kirilloff looks like he could be quite good at first base.
  17. Fernando Romero? There were others too. Take a look back and you will see that it was pretty much the same.
  18. Miami is unlikely to trade Meyer and the Twins would be foolish to trade Miranda. Miranda has done well so far and projects to improve quite a bit both at the plate and especially in the field.
  19. The trade is fair and decent return for the Reds unless the Twins have already made it policy to not pay pitchers past their arbitration years. Castillo has talent and experience that is missing from the team. This trade, or another, is the only way to get that talent. Coming into 2022, Winder was my favorite young pitcher but he will not likely be as strong as Castillo.
  20. Jermaine Palacios can play shortstop just fine, but I'm keeping Correa for the remainder of the year. The Twins need to have some record of holding free agents through their contracts. I expect Correa is gone next year but the odds are not zero that he could return for another year. The return for Correa would be negligible and the silence from the clubhouse would speak for itself. The Twins can and should add a few pitchers asap and I would think that we might expect more timely hitting for the remainder of the year from any number of our batters. Play out the schedule with C4 at shortstop.
  21. I have to agree with this response to the post. We will have a better idea of the entire Twins system after August 2. Cody provides a ton of excellent work to read on Twins Daily however, and the draft does seem like a natural point to look at the internal system.
  22. It would be hard to find a national writer that sees the Twins as favorites to win the World Series in 2022. A number of comments on Twins Daily have referenced the same basic idea as a means suggesting that Falvey hold his prospects or be very judicious if any trades are made at all. There have been a number of suggestions to trade Kepler and several mentioning Polanco too. A continual trend among many on TD refers to a window and the future. Every comment is our opinion naturally ... .... My take - the Twins are in first place which is a goal for many teams and their fans. The Twins have a number of players in their prime and support from emerging young players as well as some solid role guys. This may be the Twins best shot for years. Next year baseball will introduce a balanced schedule and you can count on all of Kansas City, Detroit, and Cleveland to be better. If not now, it is maybe never. Thus, it makes sense to make an attempt now. It may not be possible to get the help wanted for the pitching staff using prospects because other teams may not have any interest, but Falvey needs to throw out a pile of querries. It doesn't make any sense to trade from the MLB roster (I include Lewis), unless we are talking about pitchers we seek to replace with additions via trade, because the loss of regulars just weakens the team. I am in favor of a couple of trades for pitchers.
