  1. I agree that the site is hardly perfect, solely for entertainment.
  2. There will not be a new GM, Falvey is our guy, although he was the last few years too.
  3. I don't believe most people are looking at Duran's salary but rather at the possibilities that he or anyone else could be moved in a trade to improve the team. At least that is the way I see it. However, it would be sad if the team considered Duran, Jax, Ryan, Ober, Jeffers, or Castro as expensive. I just don't think that is the view.
  4. I mostly agree with you but there are prospects and there are prospects. I'm looking at what Jackson Merrill did for San Diego this year. No, San Diego is not trading Merrill but what is out there? I don't have the answer, just thoughts like others. I do want to see the Twins make some changes to what is a slow and poor defensive team. In a deal that makes the team potentially better, anyone can go.
  5. The only reason to trade any player is if it improves the overall roster and increases the chances of a better record next season. Thus, any player can be traded, depending on the return. The goal is not to win the trade but to create a stronger roster in order to compete. Last season, the Twins had similar win-loss records versus teams above even (.500) as these teams: Boston, Texas, Toronto, LA Angels, Pittsburgh, Miami, and Colorado. The Twins also were above even in one run games. They crushed the AL West. There is work to do and I suggest some change.
  6. A new owner in the future should make Falvey more active in seeking opportunities to improve the roster. Another 2024 may result in Falvey's exit from baseball. Who knows though. I thought last offseason provided possibilities. While unlimited money allows for numerous mistakes, it is fair to say that identifying talent still can fill out a roster. $125-135 million is plenty to put together a strong roster.
  7. This accurate statement is a good argument for why Falvey needs to make some changes to the roster. As it is now, Castro is nearly the team MVP.
  8. Twins Daily exists to put out stories concerning the Twins. Thus it makes perfect sense that a series of articles explores specific players and the possibility of trading them. A series of articles also looks at prospects from time to time along with other ideas. These articles are not demands, just food for thought. If one does not believe that any changes should occur with the roster, that is a preference. There is nothing wrong with that position, but just ignore these articles if that is your position. I cannot understand why anyone would disparage an article that is just forwarding a thought. Does Duran have value to another team? I would argue yes. He also has value to the Twins. A trade would work if the right name(s) returns. Arizona comes to mind as does Boston. One thing seems clear to me - if the Twins roll out the same roster next season we can all expect a similar end result.
  9. Castro is an easy decision to tender. A trade is possible if the return is worthwhile. We don't know what value other teams would see in Castro. Meanwhile, he is needed on the current Twins roster. However, a couple of moves by Falvey could reduce his value for the Twins and support trading him. In other words, it all depends on how proactive Falvey is towards building the 40 person roster for next season.
  10. I have no idea what either the Twins or Red Sox would do. The Red Sox have two young guys ready for playing time right now (Anthony and Campbell) and also have Rafaela and Abreu already up and playing well plus Masataka (not going anywhere). The Red Sox need pitching. Certainly the Red Sox would ask for more than Ober ... maybe add Raya and someone like Rosario (rh bat). I might do that. perhaps add another pitcher. The basic idea is that while I do not expect any trades or moves from Falvey, the Twins need to make some changes. I wonder what ideas you might have to improve the roster. Or do you believe the roster is pretty much set?
  11. I don't see a reasonable match in a trade of Lopez. His contract is not out of line and has zero affect on a sale of the team. Perhaps some decent offer materializes but I cannot find one. Maybe someone else has an idea.
  12. Simple, the Twins need to make a few trades to increase team speed and defense. Slow guys clog the bases and are usually poor defenders as well, catchers being an exception.
  13. Actually, the Twins need to do something to improve their roster or fourth place will be theirs once again in 2025. The Twins finished the year pretty much where their talent and play put them, behind Cleveland, Kansas City, and Detroit. I guess everyone can hope that all of those teams crater next season but those are long odds. Change needs to occur and the discussions are reasonable on everyone. Falvey should be in conversations with multiple teams assessing where and how to add to the talent for next year. Yes, those talks would involve nearly every name, including those whom some may see as must haves for the team. The public will support a good team. In fact a team that is fun to watch will draw better than the past year's team. The question is does Falvey know the team needs some change?
  14. Falvey has his ideas of what type of team he prefers, so what we think is largely irrelevant. However, I would suggest that the Twins have a number of good baseball players on their roster and some decent talent in the minor leagues as well. There should be some interest in any number of players. It isn't like there will be a whole transformation of the roster but there will be opportunities for Falvey this offseason just as there was last winter. My view is that the roster is a mishmash that needs some alignment and I believe that other teams would benefit from acquiring some of the Twins players while the Twins benefit from the exchange. I'm mostly thinking of players already in MLB and a couple that are ready right now. The Twins are also sitting on a couple of really good prospects that should not be moved because they are close to claiming lineup spots. So 2025 is a bit of an unknown, most specifically because we have no idea what direction/thoughts Falvey has in his head.
  15. This might be a fundamental difference of opinion among Twins fans. There are those who feel the talent level is there and the roster can find success with internal improvement plus a few additions, largely through minimal expenditures. Whenever I look over the roster (the current one minus the FAs), I see weaknesses. I don't dislike any specific player but admit to favoring more athletic players who can field their position. Right now, the Twins have two players who hold their own on defense: Correa and Buxton. I respect the idea that the current rostered players cn improve and did well for a long stretch last summer. However, I'm ready to see some change in the approach. Either way, it is Falvey at the helm and he is completely unpredictable for me.
  16. Duran would draw plenty of interest from any number of teams. Arizona led MLB in runs scored. Maybe the Twins could use a few minor leaguers plus Duran to pry away Jordan Lawler from the Dbacks. The Twins need to think of paths towards improving the roster. That is something we should agree on, although the ways and means may differ.
  17. The rough estimate for 2025 using the current roster is $135 million. The larger issue in my opinion is a need for the Twins to improve their defense. Falvey was quite happy with the team he put together for 2024 and the Twins were good until they weren't. A big part of their demise (many other elements) was shoddy glove work. The question is whether Falvey believes the team needs change. Ryan is unlikely to draw as much interest as Ober. Our big dude has improved steadily and looks like he is capable of getting even better. Ober is underrated in my book. The articles on Twins Daily explore ways to massage the roster for one reason or another. The idea of trading Ober (or Ryan) works if the return is a plug for the Twins current roster. I would suggest that further moves could be made as well. Looking at the Twins roster, it seems like some change is needed. Just spitballing, would the Red Sox be interested in trading Jarren Duran for Bailey Ober and a couple of other players. This ignores a premise of the article, which is to reduce salary now and in the future, but strengthens a big weakness in the outfield and buys time until a few Twins prospects are ready for playing time.
  18. Really. i had not noticed that. Vinnie is underrated, he does remind me of Hrbek. I've wondered if Royce Lewis might have a better career if he was a first baseman, but am not at all sure what he thinks about it.
  19. We have not had a chance to see Dasan Hill pitch but he was all over blogs among the top prep arms available in last summer's draft. I got nothing to say about him because i haven't seen him, yet I have thought that hope he pitches for Ft. Myers next year so i can see him pitch.
  20. I don't believe it will. Falvey can put together a pretty decent roster with somewhere around $130 M. The issue is allocation of resources, unless one thinks the Twins should be spending significantly above that budget. Falvey, in his words, put together the roster he wanted for 2024. Now he gets another chance to build the 2025 roster as he sees fit to do.
  21. Although I agree that Castro would still have value in addition to a good 2B (Lee, Eeles, Keaschall,?), Falvey needs to be looking across baseball for talent and be willing to trade. I would think Castro would be a good pickup for a team and hopefully that team would have something the Twins need.
  22. Ryan Jeffers has value to any number of teams, including the Twins. Falvey has to turn every stone seeking a path to a better roster. The Cubs, Rays, and Marlins are three teams willing to trade for Jeffers. But, you are correct that the Twins also need two catchers to roster. That means that before Jeffers can be actually traded another option or two need to be already available, not including anyone currently in the Twins organization. I would trade Jeffers in a fair deal but would need at least one decent option on board before making a deal.
  23. Eeles has shown himself to be ready and gives off a certain maturity. I would agree. As much as I like Castro, if the Twins field a $135 million budget, a trade makes sense.
  24. I believe that Tonkin is the only player nontendered from the list above. There will be no QO from the Twins. The 40 person roster is pretty difficult to put together. Every team has issues when putting together their roster and sometimes trades early in the offseason influence who lands on the list. I could see any of seven names from the tendered list moved in trades, depending on how proactive Falvey decides to be this offseason. I agree that Raya and Rosario will be put on the roster and believe that there is a chance that MacLeod and Nowlin also find themselves on the 40 list. Once again, Falvey gets a chance to put together the roster he wants for the upcoming season. It should be interesting.
  25. The most interesting player to watch for me was Winokur. He is several years away with plenty of skills to polish still before he is ready for the highest level of baseball. Still, the athleticism is there. Winokur plays good defense in either the outfield or infield with quickness and an arm to make plays. Yes, he can improve but the reflexes are a gift. At the plate, Winokur has a good eye but gets impatient like a young guy, because he is young and inexperienced. When he learns to stay more within himself and channel his swing more expertly, we can expect some strong results. Lastly, Winokur is a threat on the bases, very aggressive in stealing and on advancing the extra base. I'm looking forward to see how the lanky kid fares in Cedar Rapids next season. I do believe he will need more time than some other players to refine his skills.
