  1. Marco Raya was sent to the showers .... by the umpire. He was ejected at the close of the first inning. Watching the game it was difficult to understand what was going on with the home plate umpire. He missed a couple of pitches in the top of the first that were absolute middle, middle strikes and then inexplicably called a balk to score a run. Raya was not a happy camper and blue then sent him to the showers. The announcer did not explain anything whatsoever. The Wichita manager, Ramon Borrego, was ejected from the game before it started which may have triggered the umpire. Strange sequence and you could tell the Springfield batters were a little uncomfortable being at the plate when the umpire was angry at Wichita.
  2. I'm hoping the Twins stay away from guys who look like good softball players and are potential DHs.
  3. 0-3 with three Ks today are not the final judgment but Royce may need a few more reps.
  4. Woof. Reading through this makes one wonder how Falvey has a job in baseball. Simmons (who I wanted the Twins to nab in 2015) and Gallo had to be the worst. Each had their fans and they were defended by those supporters, but both were woeful and ready for Senior Mens Baseball by the time Falvey called them up. Shoemaker must have been drunk when he criticized the Twins after his performances for the team. 5. Problem is, it seems like a fair number of people are into fantasy baseball or gamble but have little time for watching the games or understanding the difficulty of MLB. Lewis won't be in the All Star Game. He needs to get his bat on the ball in AAA first. Royce will be all right but he is sort of in the midst of a Spring Training period.
  6. I don't really either but then there is this , how many languages do you speak?
  7. Unless you have lived in a country where you did not speak the language and still attempted some communication it is likely best to just leave your thoughts on this controversy to the side. Languages, phrasing, nuances, and the sort can be very difficult to ordinary people, much less to those who don't easily pick up a foreign language.
  8. Nice series versus a very solid Kansas City team. First two months have been good with the team on schedule to win around 88 games, which is really good baseball.
  9. Lewis needs a little time and some at bats in low key settings. Seems like a few people have adopted Royce as a new religion. Relax and let the process play out.
  10. FWIW, Keaschall has fir seamlessly into the lineup at AA with Wichita. Luke has a good eye at the plate, swings whenever the ball looks like it needs a hurt, and runs the bases well; he is a fun player to watch. I'm hoping he is leading off tonight with EmRod hitting behind him. Go to milb.com and watch this guy hit.
  11. If one wants to turn back the clock by 18 months it might be a good idea to think about something more meaningful than a baseball trade. The Twins traded Rod Carew too. How would rate Falvey? Life move on.
  12. Aaron Boone works umpires harder than any manager in the game. His statement is pure theater to somehow ingratiate himself with the very people he abuses on a regular basis. Laughable. Nice win by the Twins. Simeon Woods Richardson, Alcala, and Staumont all pitched well in addition to our late game duo. Kansas City has a good team and these are tough games.
  13. Old thread that reminds us of how people thought the Twins would sign a free agent. Oh well. Falvey had an opportunity to make a big trade but had too much love for his guys. The Twins have the starters they need and just need to figure out how to be better in the field and more efficient with the offense.
  14. Whack to blame Vazquez for making $10 million for three years when it was Falvey who made the deal. Vazquez is playing hard and doing his best. The money is irrelevant because it is a done deal. Nobody is trading for him and the Twins don't eat contracts easily. Where is the catcher to fill his spot? Farmer? Who exactly will be the Twins second catcher if Vazquez goes down? Might be a better exercise to appreciate our catchers. The playing time is likely going to be shifted more towards Jeffers in August but catching is brutal and Jeffers cannot catch two thirds of the games until late in the year and only then if he remains relatively healthy. I wonder why Houston was able to win playoff games with Maldonado?
  15. I don't believe the Twins will put the QO on Max and we should expect Kepler to sign with a team on the West Coast. Enjoy Max this year because he is in his final year playing for the Twins.
  16. Julien on the clock? Doubtful. Miranda was once a second baseman, Martin too, Lee took a few ground balls there when he would join Cal Poy informal practices back in high school, Lewis has talked to second basemen when stand ing on the bag, and Castro can fill in at second base. So the choice is basically Martin, Castro, or Miranda if Julien is off the job. Farmer? Everyone likes Kyle Farmer apparently but even he expected to be waived last winter. Folks can think he might regain some skills from two years a go, but it seems unlikely. It is just foolish to think his glove works at shortstop still. Why did the Twins use Castro when Correa went down? He has had 12 innings at SS this season. Julien has passed Farmer as a second baseman. Those holding onto the past are loyal, but wrong. Julien will need to get better, no question, but the Twins next best options are Castro and Martin, which likely means that there isn't a clock ticking at this moment for his playing time.
  17. I kind of admire your blind allegiance to veterans like Farmer, Margot, Santana, and Vazquez. We all get older though, so far at least.
  18. Let me be on record as one who is not a fan of batters striking out. However, hitters do strike out and quite often. Even some of the very best players strike out a ton. Emmanuel will have better umpires at AAA (including the ABS and challenge system) and in MLB. I'm not as worried about the strike outs as some seem to be. There should be people in the organization tasked with making decisions about when Emmanuel is ready to move up, so no worries about this for me. EmRod is having his best year thus far and is fun to watch.
  19. This seems crazy. Pitchers (Pablo) would throw a pitch they absolutely did not want to throw because that is what is called? I have to think Scherzer looks in and thinks WTF, I'm going to throw my pitch and let the catcher figure it out.
  20. Just to be fussy and remembering that I have been high on David Festa since last season as the Twins best pitching prospect, I want to see two improvements in his games. First would be more efficiency with his pitches and second would be to see him throw 90-100 pitches. The Twins may not allow him to reach the higher pitch counts. Festa still has to work on more command as well but that fits into the efficiency wish. I enjoyed watching him pitch yesterday, but wanted to see him throw another inning. I do understand that the Twins are careful with their pitchers and don't really disagree much with that. A couple of years ago it seemed like Festa was a taller version of The Blade, Tommie Hall. Festa was so skinny. Last year he was a little bigger and is noticeably bigger this year. Another 10-15 pounds of useful flesh should help Festa. I think Festa has had to buy new clothes twice in the last two years. Initially he looked like he had a 28 inch waist. Side note - I rarely pay any attention to listed weight. Guys can put themselves at 6'-3" and 145 lbs. on their driver's license when they check in at 5'-11" and 195 lbs. Did anyone believe Miguel Sano was 220 lbs.?
  21. I'm not sure Emmanuel is ready for MLB yet. This season has seen some big improvements in approach at the plate, primarily fewer out of control swings and a reduced number of times when he gives at bats away. Having watched him hit this year well more than a couple of dozen times (via milb.com) I want to add that the pitchers rarely throw EmRod strikes. The hits come on those few pitches he sees worth swinging at. Umpires must get tired of him taking pitches just off the plate. I would say that I have seen him called out on strikes on at least six occasions on pitches easily out of the zone. Rodriguez does have a bit of trouble with pitches on the outside corner in the upper reaches of the strike zone which means he still has some adjustments to make. He could learn to drive those pitches to left field. Right now the contact on pitches away are primarily more towards centerfield. Nevertheless, EmRod is probably ready to see AAA pitchers. He may have to wait until some time in June or July but it certainly would not being rushing him to get a promotion now.
  22. Kyle Schwarber? He doesn't even run the bases or field and the Phillies are unlikely to DFA him. Julio Rodriguez? There are players who strike out in MLB. I am not a fan of Ks but the game has evolved. Unless umpires noticeably change the zone for a rookie, anyone with a good eye can draw walks. Joey Gallo should be playing in a Men's League but teams keep offering him millions so he suits up. He has more walks than hits (16W/12H) with 54 Ks and a .122 BA (which apparently is not important) in 117 PA. Emmanuel Rodriguez is physically prepared to play every day in MLB. He still has a season of work to do in the minor leagues on cleaning up the mental part of the game. EmRod has improved since last year. Most notable is that he is less prone to taking crazy wild out of control swings and he has become better at not giving away at bats. If umpires call the strike zone reasonably, EmRod will be just fine when his time comes.
  23. I'm not sure anyone expects that Kiersey Jr. is going to set MLB on fire and lead the Twins to Valhalla. He bats left-handed, strikes out, and is not in his early 20s which bugs some people. Can the young 27 year old be a better player than a current Twin, say Margot or Larnach? That bar isn't particularly high. An injury to either or to Buxton should increase his chances. At some point the Twins will have a need to find out if Kiersey Jr. is a possible contributor to their major league team and we don't have to worry about his age or other aspects of his game. Julien is not really a good comparison but he was seen as having too many flaws to regard for the roster last season. Julien had many weaknesses but wound up leading the Twins along with a couple of others into the playoffs. (Noted that the most serious hole, defense, has been patched only to see the bat develop an ugly illness this year.)
