  1. found it..... I scrolled up earlier and i guess i missed it.
  2. Could the minor league cities and major league cities sue for not playing games for lost local revenue after putting so much money into the stadiums? Assuming the lock out continues and delays spring training or the start of the season or both? just thinking with the Fort Myers site updated at a cost of 40-50 million. I am sure the tax-payers paid some or all of that.
  3. This was a fun article. THere should be a way to like articles or emoji them like we can with comments.
  4. It is read a s a hard floor. I was just throwing out this idea and starting a discussion. There is nothing wrong with trading for bad contracts. I was just pointing out that they will be more common with a floor. My issue is with tanking. Even if you are only a 70 win team you should still try to win 72 games. Every win should matter for a team even a losing one. It tells how close you truly are to the top.
  5. The Twins just need to shake up their talent acquisition methods a little. They struck early in the offseason a few years back and that was the last time they did that. They do not do many trades in the offseason. Though deadline deals usually get done. Usually, selling instead of adding ..... Dumpster Diving can only go so far. Getting Donladson and Cruz and reasonable rates are not always going to be the norm. If all we do is dumpster dive then others will start following our lead as we do the same predictable thing over and over again. Though I wonder if we will get lucky with Story and get him on a shorter-term contract. but anyways I think this offseason we will resign Pineda and trade for a starter and I hope we sign a SS or middle IF especially one who can hit since our pitching is more likely to be downgraded from last year to some extent.
  6. I think the Fans should vote on the hall of fame. the writers are pretentious and do not fairly or equitably represent us.
  7. I was just thinking there should be a similar penalty for not spending the money if they get it. Plus I hate tanking teams. I guess teams will still tank but will do so by trading for bad contracts and prospects. by getting more prospects that usually shortens the tanking time.
  8. I am ok with 2 spots going to the prospects and 1 more for Bundy/ Dobnak unless or until they fail and a new prospect emerges. but we need 2 competent starters to be there for the kids and provide leadership, innings and veteraness goodness.
  9. The evidence is that he was traded. or the front office didn't think he was worth the price of an extension. either way he was traded.
  10. I didn't say the Twins couldn't afford an extension. I also didn't discount the fact that Pressley is a 2-time all-star either. but I am judging the trade for what it is. at the time it was 1 1/3 year of Pressley for Alcala and Celstino. If you think judging additional contracts and transactions to judge the one before it, Go ahead. The rest of us know how to judge a transaction based off of the transaction. and that what happens after it is a separate transaction.
  11. Zack Littell did have a good season before he had a bad one. I thought it was strange he wasn't brought back for at least 1 more go around.
  12. I was just thinking about the Competitive Balance Tax in Baseball and the negotiations going on and was thinking about the concept that was proposed of a 100 million floor. for a lot of small market teams that would be too high of a floor as it makes sense to dip down when doing a rebuild. but the thought that crossed my mind is.... why does it have to be a solid floor? I mean with the competitive balance tax on the top end of teams payrolls they have an escalating penalty each year they are above a limit. Shouldn't that work if teams drop below a certain limit as well? I think a better current floor would be between 70 million and 80 million. Drop below it once and receive a slap on the wrist 10% drop in revenue sharing revenue. Do it 2 years in a row make it 40% drop in revenue sharing received and a competitive balance draft pick or have that pick drop a round. do it 3 years in a row loos all revenue sharing designed to boost small market teams and lose all additional competitive draft picks designed to help low revenue teams. I am sure the exact amounts can be negotiated. But I would support a floor built the same way a ceiling has been installed so a team can't be brought down to the studs and receive lots of money.... This would also make tanking more interesting because how would you do it? trading for bad contracts and prospects which teams would probably do. This would help tanking teams get more prospects and get out of the cellar faster. This would be a new wrinkle in the game and a benefit for the players. Weigh in and tell us what you think about a wobbly floor?
  13. When you say that Houston got a 2-time all-star you misrepresent what the Twins had. They had 1 and a third seasons with Pressley. and they traded that 1 1/3 seasons for Alcala which he has 2 seasons already out of our pen with 4 more years of control. That alone is a no brainer. but wait there is more.... by acting when they did, they also received Celestino as a prospect at no additional cost. The extension is a separate transaction. You can't give Houston the extension because it did not exist at the time of the trade.
  14. My point was to illustrate how a rule five draft lotto pick was 5 years of a good reliever getting better then 2 solid prospects with one of them already delivering to a small degree with 4 more years of control. Its pretty obvious that Pressley was headed back to Texas in FA unless we extended him at a cost deemed to high to pay. I am sure if the Twins made a good extension offer of the 3 year 30 million variety he would have signed. But more than likely we only had 1 more year of control. so we are comparing that 1 year of Pressley to 6 years of both Alcala and Celestino. Evaluating this is a no brainer to me. It turned out to be a good trade no matter how mad I was at the time.
  15. Gladden was good defensively. He caught a fly ball that was over the fence and turned it into a triple play once against the Indians. I would love to see that replay again. Who are all of the members of the Twins Hall of Fame? Is Brian Harper in? it seems like he would be deserving as a top offensive C who played on the 91 team.
  16. If we are relying on all 3 pitchers then we are in a rebuild and not trying to compete in 2022. You don't want to bank on more than 1 back of the rotation spot and a spot in the pen is fine especially if the pitchers have options. I guess Dobnak does with his contract. I hope we do more to get more pitching. I think a Pineda signing and a trade for an Oakland or Cincinnati starter would be enough to at least make 2022 interesting.
  17. I think it all depends on how you value Pressley. Remember he wasn't acquired for much just a rule 5 draft pick. those are just lottery tickets to begin with. He gave us a great return on that pick. then we get 2 prospects one of which is looking good and has 4 years left and is getting better. The other minor leaguer looks like he could be a useful 4th OF for us or possibly a LF or RF and provide some more value. I think we got quite a bit from that rule 5 pick.
  18. I think a team friendly extension makes sense. but I see no reason not to go year to year. we have moving pieces and a mostly redundant Austin Martin in the wings. If Arreaz can net us a great return. I would be ok with that. Though I am enjoying his play here and would prefer him to be here. I think a viable extension should be more like the Polanco and Kepler extensions and be more front loaded. If Killeroff, Ober, Ryan, Larnarch, Jeffers, Alcala are all reaching higher salaries in Arbitration in years 3,4, and 5 of the extension, might as well gain some flexibility with a front-loaded lower cost extension here. let's see what that could look like. 5 year 22.5 million year 1. 3 million year 2. 4 million year 3. 4.5 million year 4. 5 million year 5. 6million this contract gives a discount and is front loaded to help balance the discount and to allow us more to spend when others are eligible for arbitration or free agency. also we probably want 2 options years or something like that. year 6 option for 11 million or 2 million buyout year 7 option for 13 million or 1 million buyout
  19. These are 3 good options. I do expect us to sign at least 1 reliever. possibly 2 or getting the 2nd one in a trade with options.... If the pattern this year is any indication, they may want to be able to send a few relievers down when they burn through their relievers and need fresh arms.
  20. I am sure he would waive the no trade clause if his option were picked up. (Note: I wouldn't advocate picking up his option to trade him, but he will want to go where it is most likely to vest) But I would want a SP included in any trade for Elvis. It would be fun to have Elvis on the Twins. I wonder which Elvis song would be his walkup. but I disagree with Montas as getting Bassit would be significantly cheaper, and we could sign him to a 3 year 40 - 45 million or 4-year contract I the 60-64 million range basically getting 4 years of Berrios for the cost of 3.
  21. It does compare favorably to the Pineda signing I think.
  22. Sano took off after the league broke down on pitchers doctoring baseballs.
  23. The other fun prospects to follow was Pearson (the OF we got from the Angels for international signing cap space) and David Banuelos (the C we got from Seattle for the same thing) basically nothing..... Banuelos is in AAA must be a good defensive C cause he doesnt hit at all career .570 OPS anyone know what happened to Pearson?
