  1. The Angels just put a bunch of players on waivers including Hunter Renfroe and Giolito and others. Do we claim any of them for the playoff run?
  2. He is easily the Twins best offseason free agent signing last offseason. And best value. 1.3 WAR for 2 million and his .376 OBP comes awfully close to what Arreaz gave us last year. put another way if Solano and Gallo switched WAR values this season (Gallo at .4 WAR last I checked) we would be ok with both contracts this year.
  3. And the Twins did it with their top RBI guy at 50.
  4. As far as days off for Correa? I can see limiting him in a series after the second time we play Cleveland and maybe giving him another series to take it easy too. but he needs to be in a rhythm going into the playoffs and not be off right before. too much time off will mess with his hitting. But he should definitely take a few days off. I think something in the neighborhood of playing in 21-25 of the remaining 31 games makes sense or I think there is what 9 games then there is 22 left so playing in 12-16 of the remaining 22 games after the 2nd Cleveland series. I don't know that it is a good idea or how much help a few more days would give him. If he needs a cortisone shot and rest, then he needs to do that right after the Cleveland series so he can be ready to go after that and probably should have a 10-day DL trip for that too.
  5. Solano grounded into a double play here. That must be why the Twins signed him. Also Astudillo pitched 4 games and 4 innings giving up only 1 run for us the year before. Are you sure he shouldn't be pitching in a pen?
  6. With the lack of strikeouts yet still being effective I was reminded of another left-handed pitcher at the end of his career who came to the Twins and pitched 2 seasons with 182 innings and 78 strikeouts. He also had a 4.89 ERA overall and 4.27 ERA out of the pen his second season with the Twins in the steroid era as a back of bullpen arm his production was worthy of 6th starter and 6th man in the pen (bullpens didn't have a 7th or 8th pitcher in them back then. The Twins would carry 11 pitchers back then. Terry Mullholland was in his age 41 and 42 seasons with the Twins and had several successful seasons as a starter for the Phillies. Including a 16-win season and All Star in another. On another note, you can see the before and after steroid effects on Mullholland's numbers. before 94 when the steroid era began, Mullholland gave up between .6 and .7 Home runs per nine innings and it doubled after that. Dallas Keuchel is this generation's version of Terry Mullholland.
  7. The Twins have 31 games remaining. I think I read 9 are against winning teams. Can the Twins go 22-9 to close out the season and win 90 games? That would atleast be a respectable win total for a team going to the playoffs. Not that it matters but a 90 win team makes having the 5-7th best record in the league feel better than being an 85 win team. My money is on an 18-13 record though I hope they prove me wrong and get to 90 wins.
  8. If Brock shows he is still a dominant reliever like before his injury, then we may not be as short on relievers as is written here. Duran Brock Jax Thielbar Pagan then we can choose 2 or 3 from Meada / Ober Sands Floro Winder Balazovich We would be in pretty good shape for the playoffs.
  9. That would lessen the need for a reliever if he comes back effective similar to what he was before his injury.
  10. If I’m bringing Austin Martin up it’s to be the 4th OF. Taylor is a superior defender and that matters especially in the playoffs. He has a .730 OPS and it’s been on the rise. He doesn’t get on base enough but has speed when he does. And he bats 9th. I do think Martin needs to be playing 65-75% of the time to show what he can do. But it needs to be at several positions. It would be nice to see what Funderbunk can do in our pen. I’m fine with rotating him in at some point. Is Brock coming back this season? obviously Gallo and Luplow get cut first if Buxton and Killeroff are available to come back from injury. not sure what to do with Castro but he deserves to be on the roster in the playoffs. Both Solano and Farmer are safe. I don’t see us getting rid of either. I actually want to see Solano retained for next season. Gotta give the front office props for getting him right before spring training. If Solano and Gallo had traded salaries we would probably be fine with both players right now …. Both would be worth what they are getting paid for.
  11. Has there been any word on Brock? Also in the news former Twins reliever Stashak signed a minor league deal with the Giants.
  12. I’m fine with Gallo. He at least has an OPS over .750. I would prefer him to get his average up to the .220 range. I’m more surprised by a lack of movement for a bullpen arm.
  13. I hope his success continues. If he can be a 4.5 ERA pitcher the rest of the way, he is of value as a member of a 6 man rotation helping to keep innings down and arms fresh for the playoffs.
  14. I guess this is the Ohtani thread. I’ll try another one. The Twins should sign David Robertson to an either a 1 year 10 million or 2 year 18 million contract to be a late inning reliever in the pen.
  15. Johnny Mize is still with Detroit. He is coming back from TJ surgery next season and is a solid starter. With all of the money they have coming off the books they spend it properly they could be a flawed .500 team next year. That’s competitive in our division.
  16. There should still be money to sign a starting pitcher and a reliever or two. I expect the Twins to go dumpster diving for relievers. They may sign one for a 4 or 5 million 1-year contract or 2. I doubt Larnarch and Walner will be on the Twins. I think it's either one or the other with them. Gordon will still be around to be a backup OF. The Twins will still want a backup IF. As far as starting pitchers go, they won't want both Paddack and Varland in the same rotation especially since they don't have a viable 6th starter in AAA yet. I can see the Twins signing someone over the offseason. They will have the money based on the budget. and the Fact that they will want a short-term starter I can see them resigning Maeda on a 2-year deal or someone like Odorizzi on a 1-year deal. I do think they will want to watch costs unless the Twins win the World Series then I can see them getting to 130-140 million payroll level. I do agree that the spending will be less, but I think the Twins will have a budget closer to 130 million.
  17. I’m more interested in seeing who else joins the climb to become a top prospect. Whether or not they join the top 100 list.
  18. Moves the Twins won’t make: 1. Resign Gray to 3 year 72 million 2. If not Gray then sign Kershaw to 1 year 25 million. Let’s get stupid shall we? Let’s trade one of our top prospects say Lee to Pittsburgh for Bednar and a prospect. This clears up the extra IF problem and makes our bullpen dominant the next 3 years. This will bring back so many memories of the Matt Capps trade.
  19. Having the I ter ational class of 2009 reach 500 HRs as Twins is a nice marketing opportunity for the Twins. As long as Kepler and Polanco are helping the Twins, they should be here. Though we do have nice hitting prospects on the way. …. We will see.
  20. I see them exercising the option. Lee will not likely start the season in the majors and when he is ready then we can trade Polanco. Also they will pick up Keplers option too. As of this morning the international class of 2009 for the Twins Sano, Kepler and Polanco have combined to hit 416 Homer’s and counting. Kepler is 12 away from catching Sano. Sano has 161, Kepler has 149 and Polanco 106.
  21. To hit and run you need hitters who make contact. We have too many strikeout artists on the team. Correa is likely one you could hit and run with. I agree they should do more stealing with a runner on first and Correa at bat. And lastly Brett Butler probably added 30 points to his batting average with over .400 batting average when bunting. I don’t think that is his career average but I remember that being his bunting average when he had over 30 bunt base hits.
