  1. I’m going to be the contrarian and say Wallner hits 40 HRs next season and OPS over .980 while Lewis and Julien slump back about .20 too .30 OPS points off of this year’s total.
  2. Last year he was a rookie. Now he has around 100 innings under his belt.
  3. Whatever you’re doing Randball Stu it’s working…… sort of. Back to back days of transactions. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/twins-sign-a-j-alexy-to-minor-league-deal.html
  4. 2 WAR is what he is getting paid for so 3.0 WAR is a better starting point for success. If he can hit 6. WAR even better. As far as playing goes we’ll start with 90 games in CF and 20 at DH and go up from there. I would like to see him magically play 120 maybe 125 in CF and 20 give or take at DH..
  5. I don’t understand why everyone hates the Bundy signing so much. I mean at the time we were hoping for a top of the rotation arm, but Bundy was exactly what we paid him to be. He was a competent 4th starter who went 8-8 and led the staff in innings pitched. He was also clearly on his last leg of his career. But he only cost 4 million plus a 1 million buyout of his option. Archer pitched ok except he couldn’t get past the 4th inning. The Twins should’ve moved Archer to the pen mid season. JA Happ was ok until his last 3 starts. I mean he wasn’t a third starter we were hoping for more of a fifth starter but then the wheels came off and we were lucky to get something for him at the deadline. Grant who did what Happ and Shoemaker couldn’t. He was ok in the rotation. The worst part about Shoemaker is the Twins had to keep him in the rotation because their 6,7,8 and 9th starters were all hurt. Another free agent starter the Twins signed was Odorizzi when he accepted the QO from the Twins. Martin and Hill were fine signing’s remember the price point. some advice. If the Twins sign a starter for 8 million or less you should expect 5th starter results then be surprised if the Twins unlock something and we get more. Everyone else does. That’s why the pitcher is so cheap.
  6. Satire escapes you, doesn't it? The sad part about my satirical comment is that it is true ....
  7. from what I remember the Twins had 3 or 4 good starters and Reed completed the rotation while Lawton was one of their best hitters that year and the Twins sorely needed offense. and trading Lawton killed the offense. but Reed was ok the rest of that year and good the next and terrible after that. I think Reed wasn't liked because he did what was in his best interest and crossed the picket line during the strike in 1995 and was a replacement player.
  8. Sounds like you expect the Twins supplemental draft pick that they get for losing Gray to be a really good player for the Twins who eventually gets traded for three prospects where 2 pan out and one of them becomes a future all star and eventually getting traded for a prospect and future hall of famer......
  9. The Twins just made their biggest offseason move yet. They signed Nico Goodrum to a minor league deal. Way to go Randball Stu. Twins Sign Niko Goodrum To Minor League Deal - MLB Trade Rumors
  10. I was on board with this article until the author said the window of contention opened in 2019 and is closing. We currently have a new team since then. There are only 3 players on this team now from that year and 2 of them are on the trade block. I do like the idea of signing Ryu from Toronto and also note that if/when he gets hurt Texas will have 3 starters coming back from injury and we could probably trade with them for a starter if needed.
  11. The book on the Mahle trade has closed on the Twins side. That is why the trade is being evaluated. There are no more branches on this side of the deal. The other side of the deal already has more value and likely so much more projected on the way. Hence the evaluation which is now legit. And it will update to be either less bad or even worse than what people think now. There is no way around it. This trade turned out bad for the Twins. While at the time of the trade it didn’t look good in that we knew we overpaid for Mahle with the talent we gave up. We gave up duplicate talent. Meaning the players we gave up were blocked by other young players. So the trade looked to be good for the Twins to get a #2 starter for prospects. My analysis of the trade is it was a bad one but I’m not mad at the front office for going for it. I hope they do this trade type of trade again.
  12. Lawton for Reed wasn’t a bad trade. What puts it in this category is we traded from a position of need for a position of need but less need and Terry Ryan was unable or unw To do the second trade that was supposed to occur to replace Lawton.
  13. I like Garver and am not opposed to signing him. I do think a good power bat for the middle of the order is not a bad idea. I think the Twins do not want to commit more money to 2025 though. How about JD Martinez on a 1 year contract for the same 12-13 million. I don't know if he can get 2 years or not at his age. I would be fine with either. I am just throwing another option out there. But to be clear the main objective for the offseason is to get a playoff caliber starting pitcher.
  14. Trading Burnes is not a win now move for the Brewers. Getting Polanco is a good start. But wouldn’t Milwaukee also want a decent starter. Maybe make it a 3 team deal where Milwaukee sends some of their prospects and Minnesota includes some too and Minnesota gets Burnes, Milwaukee get Polanco and Dylan Cease and Chicago gets several good prospects. I don’t know what prospects Chicago wants from us or Milwaukee but I think that’s how the trade would make sense for them. That would extend their window for 2 seasons instead of just one. Chicago would want good prospects too. They don’t want to feel like they helped the Twins win.
  15. Presley was going to be a free agent anyways and would likely signed with Houston anyways since he is from there. Atleast we have Alcala from that trade. Do we still have Celestino? We did get some use from him too. That trade was OK . Especially if Alcala has a good next couple of years.
  16. You didn't mention the 3.81 ERA Varland had in his trial with the Twins the year before. He has earned a chance to start. He may be good. He is a likely a real good reliever. The idea is to get a known quantity towards the top of the rotation for the playoffs. Someone to replace what Gray brought to the table. not just replace his innings with a 4.5 ERA. Unless of course the front office believes they can add a notch to the pitcher's effectiveness with a new pitch (Sweeper) or a new mix of pitching strategy or adding a few miles to their fast balls. or best yet a combo of those three things. The Twins helped Gray elevate to ace level status. Let's see if we can find a starter who they can do that again with. or get someone like Burnes from Milwaukee.... I am out on this pitcher from Baltimore.
  17. I thought the Twins were only interested in a 1 year deal. Next year is going to be more expensive then this year and we should still have 5 options with several minor leaguers knocking on the door. I want a better pitcher then Hauser too but the deal fits what the front office is doing.
  18. Here is a downer of a realistic trade. Polanco to Milwaukee for Adrian Houser and a prospect. Houser has 1 year till free agency and has ok numbers. Can our coaches help add a few ticks to his fastball? A sweeper? We get a starter to add to with no long term commitments and a prospect to add to the system. Milwaukee gets help at their black hole at 2B and an option to do that again in 2025. We could alter this deal and make it Farmer and a prospect or Sands or Winder for Houser as well. There could be a few ways to make this deal.
  19. The cost from what I am reading here is too high to get Luzardo. We don’t need to create more holes to replace the ones we have. Though there are trade packages I would do to acquire him. Miami is looking for offense. I would trade Wallner, Polanco, and Festa for Luzardo. Might as well trade a pitcher to replace the one you’re getting. I feel like this cost is a little too high but it’s what I would pay. Or if the Marlins really want a C I would keep Wallner and replace with Carmago and a low level prospect. Maybe include their 2B prospect they sent us last year.
  20. Won’t Buxton have 10/5 rights to be able to reject a trade by then?
  21. Right. If we have more starters on the way, and they are better or equal to what we currently have and that allows us to make trades then we will have years of low-cost starter meaning lots of stability for the foreseeable future like I said earlier.
  22. I think it would make sense to give some cost certainty extensions and maybe front load a few of these for less expense down the road for players through their arbitration years and either 1 year of free agency, option year for first year of free agency or none. Players for this type of extension would be Duran, Ryan, Ober, Jax maybe Jeffers. Jeffers will be 30 when he is a free agent so I doubt he wants to lock in money beyond that date before unless it’s an extension that takes him to age 34/35. And there is no need for that. beyond that I would do a 2 year contract for Theilbar. I doubt he wants to go anywhere else so a 2 year 8 million total extension 3 year 1 and 5 year 2 or 3.5/ 4.5. Or add an option. 3.5/ 3.5/ with 1 million buyout or 4 million in year 3. For either a 2 year 8 million or 3 year 11 million. Lewis not sure how I do this one but an 8 -10 year extension. Maybe with an opt out or incentives or escalators or similar to the contract Julio signed in Seattle. But something with a lot of cash. Would Kepler and the Twins agree to a 3 or 4 year extension? 13-15 million per season????
  23. An extension for Ryan might be for cost certainty during his arbitration years. Maybe we front load it a little to keep costs down when others are rising. Maybe we add a team option for one year of free agency. This way the Twins can have an option to keep him should Lopez leave when his contract is up….Which should be at around the same time. Here is an on the spot, without research, inaccurate example of what I am talking about. Ryan could in theory make 800k - 3 million - 8 million - 13 million and is then a free agent. That is about 25 million. Or we could sign him to an extension like a 4 year 20 million with a 5th year option and a 1 million buyout. The salaries the next 4 seasons. 2 million, 4 million, 6 million 8 million. With 1 million buyout and 22 million. Now that’s not how the extension would actually be structured but something like that.
  24. And I would make that gamble for the right price. Not sure LEwis would. But I would. Definitely!
