    I wonder if the Twins take 13 pitchers and make the third game a straight bullpen game see if Dobnak can get 4-5 good innings and go with the pen the rest of the way.

    I am pretty confident we won't miss Jaylin. I am glad he gets an opportunity somewhere. At best he gets 5-10 ABs here in this season and we never hear from him again because next year we will have Booker and Killeroff and Wade and Cave and our 3 current starters and ..... Granted I guess there is a pathway for Jaylin, but it is not as clear cut. Dyson could provide good value for us next year.

    We are 3 HRs away from having 5 players with 30 HRs on a team. That has to be a record of some kind? I know the Dodgers with 4 was a big deal once upon a time. The 87 Twins just missed that feat when Puckett only had 28 HRs.

    I think he should be a candidate to resign because 1. He is a good pitcher and 2. because he wants to be here. I like all 3 of Pineda, Gibson and Odorizzi. I hope we sign 1 if not 2 or three. I could see the offseason going like this. Odorizzi accepts the Qualifying Offer, Pineda signs a reasonable 2 year 26 million contract because of the Suspension and Gibson resigns on a 2 year contract 26 million w/ incentives and option year with a reachable trigger like 350 innings during the 2 years guarantees third at 15 million, because of his illness.

    The move for LaMarre makes perfect sense. This keeps us from using a 40 man spot on Killeroff this off-season in exchange for maybe 30-40 plate appearances for a liked player who performed at AAA. LaMarre will be outrighted off the 40 man after the season. There is no suspense on that. He gets a Major league check and a chance to show he still can play up here, so a decent opportunity to be a backup somewhere next season. Everyone wins

    I like that all of the Twins Minor League hitters of the year from 2012 through 2017 have all hit at least 20+ HRs in a Major League season. 2018 hitter of the year is pending.

    Well it seems our hitters are comming back and we have 13 games against the bottom feeders so I still think we have a fighting chance. I also hope we can hit some other HR goals. We currently have 3 players who have hit 30 HRs. if Sano and Rosario can make it that would be 5 players on a team which i think is a record. we also have I think 8 20 HR hitters. I think that is a record too. so if the Yanks do have the most for the season we can end up with several other team HR records too. Although I hate the Yanks and I will be rooting for the HRs the rest of the season so we can win by one. So the bottom line is we will likely tie the Yankees for the most HRs in a season.

    I can see the Twins signing 1 solid starter like Odorizzi, Keuchel, Zack Wheeler, or Cole Hammels Gibson is a wild card as we don't fully know how his injury/ illness will affect him moving forward. But I think the Twins would like to keep him if the price is reasonable. I can also see the Twins going after an innings eater like Homer Bailey, and Tanner Roark, Cashner, someone who is less expensive but solid/ ok. Picking up Martin's option and going with a rookie. If they can sign Pineda or some pitcher coming off injury on a low cost deal I think they would do that too. Or sign someone to compete for a spot either on a minor league or spring invite deal but the money would be a factor. With their offense, the Twins would only need to find league average starters to be competitive. you know like back in the Terry Ryan era.

    You should break down who you see as candidates for the rotation in your conclusion. Otherwise good article. For our rotation next year we have Berrios and possibly Martin I can see the Twins picking up his option if they are sure they can't sign 2 of Odorizzi, Pineda, and Gibson to extensions. What I see happening in the rotation is Berrios, resign one of our FA pitchers, I'm not sure about our third d starter, Martin and a rookie. We have lots of pitchers coming up and if Martin pitches the same this year he may have competition for a job at some point next year. Also we seem to have enough quality that we can cycle through pitchers again in our bullpen like we did this year. So we will have Rogers, Duffey, May, Dyson, and a big competition. I would list Littel for a bullpen spot but he may be in competition for the rotation still. I could see us signing an arm even reupping Romo.

    Does it count as an option year if they call him up today? Will it count tomorrow? I am sure that is the reason to wait.

    You trade prospects for a starting pitcher and you trade Eddie for prospects.

    I'm fine with Gibson. He has pitched almost 1100 innings for us. I would be cool with a contract extension for him for up to 3 years. He could get his 100th career victory here.

    I want to see Cave hit at least 10 HRs. (This will tie the Twins with 12 players with 10+ HRs on a team) I want to see Polanco and Gonzales top 20 (This will give the Twins a record 9 players with 20+ HRs on a team) I want to see Garver, Sano, and Rosario top 30 HRs (this will give the Twins 5 players with 30+ HRs I think the record is 4 which by the way the 1987 Twins were 2 HRs from Puckett away from that feat.) and I want to see Cruz, Kepler and maybe Sano if he can go on a big enough tear hit 40 HRs. (2 or 3 40+HR hitters on the team)

    from the article it looks like we will have the opportunity to trade talent at peak value for good prospects to keep the talent pipeline going from the farm. With us becoming contenders it will be harder for us to build through the draft and farm without being able to acquire good prospects too.

    The ones I'm sure will get called up:.Smeltzer, Thorpe, Harper, Grateral, Littel and Astudillo. The maybes include: Stewart, Hildenburger, Poppen and Romero. That's a lot of pitchers. Wade also makes sense if healthy and that speed guy specifically for pinch running. If the Twins want more on their bench. Everyone else listed deserves a call up but won't likely get it unless the Twins go for 40 total on the team. It's nice to have more than 40 players who deserve to be on the roster.

    I did want to add that Parker, Morin, and Magill have been solid with their new teams. Only Mejia is still struggling.

    We should have traded for him. That would be something if they were on the same team and that team being the Twins. Then there is the issue of which T Rogers is which? and there is Tyler, Taylor (Rogers) and Tyler (Duffey) in the pen to keep things confusing as well.

    I thought no the decision to pull Pineda after 5 was aided by the fact most of the bullpen had 2 days of rest.

    Looks like Greenville got lawyered last night.

    but most of these hitters are just entering their prime which means these players are more likely to figure things out. also with the lineup so deep, you can't really pitch around anyone. So that happens significantly less here than in other years past or future I imagine.

    Pagliarulo would be three by this logic. but Yeah Morris pitching a 10 inning shut out in game 7 of the World Series makes him #1. not to mention his contract was the first one with a player option which is now popular to do. Thome is way up there

    Surprises this year include: Harper (no one expected anything from a 30 year old rookie who was in AA the previous year) Duffy (no one expected anything) Arraez (no one expected .350 AVE) Sano (no one expected .900 OPS) Castro (no one expected .800 OPS) Garver (no one expected .900+ OPS) Kepler (no one expected 40 HR) Cruz (no one expected 1.000 OPS) Adrianza (no one expected an .820 OPS) honorable mention Zack Littell (no one expected a 3.60 ERA in half a season of relieving) I like that this list is long.
