Mauer will still get enouhh at bats to qualify for the batting title. But they will sit him more against lefties and he will swap with park at DH 30 to 40 games. I see mauer playing in 140 games with 25 to 30 as DH. So 520AB and approx .280 ave/ .350 obp/ .420 slg. Im rooting for 35 2bs and 10 -15Hrs (a little optimistic on power i know).
I like the idea of Thad Levine to Yu Darvish connection. That would be great if we went out and got him after the season. It would take alot though as he likes Texas and they are competetice too. I do think that a strong pitcher will make the difference next year and there will only be 1 more year of Mauer at 23 million.

Lets see here this is Hughes second time pitching since surgery and his secondary pitches are working. He just needs to build up a little arm strength. And his location was good. Sounds like he is almost back. The question now us will he add 2 or 3 mph to his fastball by the end of spring. I like his chances alot. Put me down for over on his expected contributions this year.
Without knowing what the Dodgers pen is like. How bout something like this. Dozier, Kintzler, and either Rogers or one of our reliever prospects, for DeLeon, Alvarez, bad contract, and some international cap money.
Time limits is a proven sales and negotiating tactic. So no big deal there. Also remember it was Friedman who fleeced the Twins in the Delmon Young trade. We don't have to trade Dozier. We have a full rotation and 4 or 5 prospects who could be up by the end of 17. Now having more is always better but to trade a 30 hr, 15stolen base 2b. For 1 above average Prospect is lunacy.
The Twins need to keep some veterans around. Trading all the vets is not the best way to go unless they all have attitude problems. I don't think that is the case here. I still like the Polanco for DeLeon swap idea as it saves dodgers money with league minimum player and we get a starting pitcher. When Dozier hits free agency is the same time as Mauer so his 23 million will come off the books leaving us plenty of money to resign Dozier.....
I'm cool with Santana getting a minor league deal and spring training invite. If he makes the team it means he beat everyone else out for the spot and can be flipped if he builds enough value
The idea of keeping Plouffe is if your in the camp that believes Sano is not a 3b option and should focus on 1b and DH. Feldman can still start so he won't sign as a reliever.
I think the Team with sign a reliever to a major league contract and sign some depth and get a catcher hopefully castro. I actually hope we keep Plouffe if he can build value he could get us something at next years trade deadline if there are injuries to contenders. I also think he is a better defender than Sano who needs to move to 1b to not be a DH at this point. He and Mauer can switch out at 1b and DH.
Put Sano as DH/1B next year. Plouffe at 3B Polanco can shift there when Gordon comes up or we can get Escobar to play there. Sano needs a position he can field. 3B isn't it.
Dean was a prospect depth piece that was given an opportunity and called up and was ok the first few starts then got shelled and at this point has earned his way either off the 40 man and back to AAA or off the roster all together. We now know he is not much of a prospect. Albers was depth piece all the way. called up to be the extra player in a double header and threw 6 solid innings so when a need arrived he earned the call. He is what he is a depth piece who i hope is back in AAA to be a 7th or 8th starter and down the road swingman. there is a place for players like that. he may be able to carve out some big league time over the next few years yet but his time is running out. Schafer was called up to be a back up OF and waste on the bench. that is not the situation you want to put prospects into which is why Schafer got the call. Beresford deserved the token call. He is a solid depth piece backup if one is needed while a player is on the 15 day DL. I hope they keep him for next season in AAA should the need arise. There was a lack of talent on the roster but most of these call ups were not the reason.
On the plus side we have lots of starting pitching options on the way that could make the Twins at some point next season. Barrios, May, and Duffy and Gibson as the current home grown pitchers and Mejia, Jay, Gonsalves, Stewart and I forgot the other.... and for 2018 Thorpe could be up......
Since Falvey is coming from Asst GM to president...I think keeping some of the same ops people in place during the first year makes sense while Falvey comes in and tries to prove himself. If he does prove himself I suspect he will earn more freedom to bring in his own people.
