I was sleeping during med school but there are only 3 scenarios that make sense to me. 1. The Twins were aware of the injury when the committed 105.3 million to him with player opt outs and went through with the deal anyway. 2. The injury worsened over the course of last season. 3. The Owners are asking the front office and medical staff why they didn't know about the injury. Does anyone else have a 4th or 5th scenario that I'm not thinking of?

Mets Also Have Medical Concerns about Carlos Correa
Riverbrian replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for this. There are two paragraphs that I don't understand. I think the most likely scenario is that Correa fell into the Twins lap quickly last year, and everyone recognized it was most likely a 1 year arrangement. So the level of due diligence required by the medical staff is lower. Imaging of all prior nicks/bruises isn't necessary in that case. This time around given the commitment of 10+ years, teams were being more diligent and likely getting new imaging of any body part that had ever been treated for an injury (surgically or not). Thinking it's a 1 year arrangement is logical to me if he performs as hoped. However, the deal was a three year commitment with an AAV over 35 big ones if things go wrong. Injury is perhaps the primary risk of how things could have gone wrong. An underlying injury is something the team would need to be aware of (thrown together quickly or not) since they absorbed all of the risk. Over 100 million dollars worth of risk. Carlos had the opts outs so in my limited thinking, while I understand the difference betwen 12 years and 3, still the level of due diligence required should be at least similar to the level the Giants and Mets put forth. Lower level due diligence makes no sense to me when you consider that 35 million out of a limited budget for a crippled player would cripple the franchise for the next two years. -
Change is slow. To make it happen faster, it usually takes something extraordinary. This might be that something extraordinary. An owner that makes the Yankees and Dodgers declare unfairness may be just what the doctor ordered to produce change.

Did the Twins Miss Something with Carlos Correa?
Riverbrian replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It was an industry assumption that Correa would opt out of that 3 year deal with us and he did. Poor play or injury would have kept him in Minnesota for the duration. So... all the risk was on the Twins... the Twins better have known of any potential injury that would leave them holding a 35m a year bag for 2 additional years. If a more comprehensive physical was required due to the 300 million dollar figure, that would mean a $105 million dollar deal such as the Twins struck is not a big enough deal to require the really really good comprehensive physical. I will remain of the opinion that 70 million dollars of injured player is a huge issue for a team like the Twins. If the Twins didn't know about the injury... that's a system failure that must be addressed. -
Rumor: Mets Have Concerns With Correa Physical

Is it possible that the Twins have been dipping into the Correa money? Just asking for a friend. -
Why Did the Twins Sign Joey Gallo?
Riverbrian replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Signing Joey Gallo means we have to trade Kepler or else Kirilloff and Larnach will not play? I understand that September was a long time ago so we may have forgotten but as a reminder I'll mention that we had Cave, Celestino and Garlick in the OF. Why anyone would assume health if they took any kind of notes last season and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that. ? We also saw the Twins move players around and rest last year. I'm not sure why anyone assumes that we won't do the same again this year. We also have the DH position that can be provide playing time if we actually have a healthy log jam. Now if the fears expressed are correct and Gallo is given every day playing time and is producing like the same Gallo as last year, while Kirilloff or Larnach sits on the bench and watches it happen. I promise that I will join you and start calling for new management. We can have an honest competition for playing time between Gallo, Kepler, Kirilloff, Gordon, Larnach... let the best man win. If the Twins truly commit to letting the best man win instead of who they think should win and do this not just in the OF. We could add Mancini to this roster and deepen the competition and lineup a little more and provide insurance against injuries. We could aslo add Segura to this roster and deepen the competition and lineup a little more. Those are probably the only two bats left in the market that interest me. We also have the DH spot to keep players busy. C Jeffers Vazquez 1B/3B Mancini Miranda Arraez or Miranda Arraez Kirilloff 2B/SS Polanco Farmer Gordon or Polanco Farmer Segura OF Buxton Gallo Kepler Kirilloff Garlick or Larnach or Buxton Gallo Kepler Gordon Garlick or Larnach Minor League depth C Get somebody on a minor league deal SS/1B/2B/3B Lewis, Lee, Martin, Julien, 1B minor league deal Aguilar, Dom Smith, someone like that). OF Larnach Wallner Lewis Martin Celestino- 41 replies

Were Twins fans intentionally misled about Carlos Correa?
Riverbrian replied to Shobae's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
To be honest... I never put up a guess I didn't really allow myself the expectation that Correa would sign with us. I've probably been conditioned over the years of being a Twins fan when it comes to free agency. It's almost Pavlovian, the free agency bell rings and I expect the bowl to be empty as the bigger names sign with the bigger clubs like usual. Rumors that the Twins were even attempting to sign Darvish, Correa or Donaldson is still new stimuli to my brain. I'll have to be re-conditioned if they keep throwing hats into that ring. -
Were Twins fans intentionally misled about Carlos Correa?
Riverbrian replied to Shobae's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I've heard the number. I've heard final offer attached to that number. Does that mean that they wouldn't go to 287(for example)? I don't know and I think it's dangerous to take little bits of information and bang the gavel like a negotiation of this magnitude isn't living and breathing until it's not. Did they miss on whatever they projected the market to be? Maybe, I don't know but can you honestly tell me that you believe that they don't have the access to the information necessary to acclimate to whatever the market is... my assumption would be that they would acclimate more accurately than you and I ever could. Every free agent of value has teams that end up on the losing end. Do the Twins lose out on more of them than other teams? How many did they take a swing at? Are we aware of every swing? How do we know? -
Were Twins fans intentionally misled about Carlos Correa?
Riverbrian replied to Shobae's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I don't know Mike. I'm in the dark like everyone else. But, I think it's safe to assume that the front office is directly involved in the process. The assumption that the front office would know they were out of it and yet wait for it to happen regardless is attaching an impossible level of dumb to people in a position where it would be impossible to be even slightly dumb. If they thought they were in it... Can we give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they had a reason to believe they were in it. I think you are a solid poster but I hope you understand that you seeing zero chance should be weighted accordingly by what you are able to see.... which is probably exactly what I am able to see. -

No doubt... I understand this completely. Social Media doesn't really exist without it. I assume it's possible that this might have something to do with my comments in a different thread. So... I'll go straight to that just in case it is. Once you say... "plenty of front office insight". Produce it. Because you've just said... trust me... I have it. You've just become the reality to others who are searching for reality and not finding it. Now you are the angry leading the angry to angrier and if you don't have it... who exactly are we following here. So if you have it... Prove it. Take responsibility and understand that this on a smaller scale is exactly how social media produces January 6th. Merry Xmas to all! ? -
Were Twins fans intentionally misled about Carlos Correa?
Riverbrian replied to Shobae's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Yes it will... I agree. That along with our propensity to take very little information and expand it so it's large enough to fill the void left behind by getting very little information. -

Riverbrian replied to Shobae's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
We mislead ourselves. -
The Twins will probably have to make some 40 man trades in order to complete this roster. However, I contend that we need more hitting as it stands today. If we trade Arraez... we will need even more hitting than what we already need. I don't know how they are going to find what we need with Arraez. Arraez is one of the few hitters currently on the roster that is help the team win consistently with the bat in his hands.

In consideration of what he has been accused of and suspended for. If the Dodgers release him and eat 22 Million in order for him to not be on the roster. We shouldn't pay 600K to put him on the roster. Other than that... I have never met him. I shouldn't be the person who convicts him of anything. Seems like MLB and the Dodgers have already convicted him of something.

MLB doesn't care about most of its teams
Riverbrian replied to puckstopper1's topic in Other Baseball
I agree that the current system is unfair. From a talent standpoint... Most of us agree that the Mets have won the off-season. From a payroll standpoint... the Mets are #1 and #2 is a long ways away. This is clearly not a level playing field. However, one thing that is lost in this discussion. The Mets still have to convert all those dollars and all of this free agent talent to actual winning on the field. No matter how much they have spent. They still have to play better than the Braves, Phillies, Cards, Brewers, Dodgers and Padres and whoever else shows up to contend. Those teams are not going to roll over for them because they spend more. At this point most of us assume wins are sure to come but they will start the season 0-0 just like everyone else. Let's see what happens. -
I've waited 14 hours with no response. So... I'm going to ask again. If you have "PLENTY of front office insight", share it on Twinsdaily. You have PLENTY of it. After all, I'm under the impression that Twinsdaily does this sort of thing, providing Twins information to a Twins community. Why would Twinsdaily keep this front office insight from the readers. I spend time on this website, I haven't read any front office insight, the real stuff, words from the people involved. Don't give me unidentified sources providing a sentence to someone from the Athletic. When you say it this definitively... people may believe that there is "PLENTY of front office insight on this". Since we currently have owners of this website providing articles of varying interpretations of the events, I will hashtag the owners @John Bonnes @Seth Stohs @Nick Nelson @Brock Beauchamp @Parker Hageman and wait for this "Front office insight". Hopefully not much longer.

41 million was spent by the Twins shortly after the Giants deal with Correa was announced and before the Correa deal with the Giants fell apart. Making assumptions like everyone else. I assume budgeting is a part of the process. Is it possible that the landscape had changed in between these two amazing San Francisco events?

This is exactly what I believe. It isn't hard to come to the same conclusion. Just look at other teams. It isn't hard to find each teams mistakes. Look at the bottom of the stats and there they are. The numbers you find at the bottom of the stats were not the expected numbers. Superstars? Where are ours. I've been asking this question for quite some time. If the organization isn't going to sign a free agent superstar or (struggle to sign a free agent superstar)... you have to grow your own. We haven't grown our own. Once again... look at the other teams. Almost every other team has grown a superstar... the Twins haven't and it has been a real long time. Where is our Manny Machado (Orioles), Betts (Red Sox). Where is that player that we can trade for the Padres Farm system? Where is that guy who spends 6 years with the club and signs a 200 million dollar plus deal because other teams really really want him? Brian Dozier and Trevor Plouffe couldn't find work when they reached free agency. Don't get me wrong... I'll give Buxton superstar status but his contract doesn't suggest superstar. According to baseballtradevalues. Brooks Lee who we just drafted is our most valuable asset. Where are our Spencer Striders, Vlad Jr, Ronald Acuna, Juan Soto. I support the front office because I believe they are heading the right direction but development will be the primary gauge between good front office and not good front office. Well stated chpettit19 as usual.

Are any AL Central fans happy with their team?

I tried that ****ing yoga but my ****ing body wouldn't bend that ****ing way. I tried meditation. Sat on the floor closed my eyes and made that ohm sound for about 30 minutes. Opened my eyes and I was surrounded by cows. -
I've been wrong so often that I stopped making predictions. Instead of predicting that a bear will walk through the campground. I wait for a bear to walk through the campground and then I point at the bear. I fill out my NCAA basketball brackets to perfection every single year by waiting to see what happens first.

Head over to Guardians Daily, White Sox Daily, Royals Daily, Tigers Daily. Don't stop there go over to Cubs Daily, Red Sox Daily, Yankees Daily, Rays Daily... all MLB Daily's. Don't Stop There go over to Crimson Tide Daily, Read what the fans are saying... it's the same ****. In case nobody want's to do this for perspective. I have and I'll paraphrase what they are saying: Their owners are cheap, the front office should be fired, the manager or head coach is an idiot and the backup QB should be starting. Everybody makes incredible passionate arguments that almost sound convincing and there are plenty standing behind them with the thumbs up. I wish I could say I'm exaggerating but I'm not and once you step out of the Twins world and look around like this, you come to the obvious conclusion. WHAT'S THE POINT. You are just part of a really large club that can't be satisfied unless they never lose. Even winning a lot isn't good enough. As for the why don't they just spend and go for it like the Padres. The White Sox have done that. They were 7th in payroll in 2022. The Fans are still pissed. Insatiable.
