In Defense of Emilio Pagan
Twins GFP replied to NeverSeenATwinsPlayoffWin's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Again, this is what I am talking about. You aren't reading what I am typing. The positive items were already listed in the article. I said when Jax was bad, there was not the vitriol that Pagan receives. The comments on Pagan are more emotional and less based on his performance. Continuing this thread is fruitless when you don't even read or consider the other pieces. -

I will "enlighten" you, but nothing I say will change your opinion. What I am saying is it does not matter what facts are brought up supporting Pagan. The article itself listed many statistical positives that Pagan has brought to the table this year. Since this was brought up by Kenny Powers: Pagan WPA = -0.09 G. Jax WPA = -0.08 That stat will be ignored by many posters, or circumvented by other posters by changing the context. All year long Jax has not gotten any where near the vitriol that Pagan has gotten, even when Jax was BRUTAL the first month of the year. Pagan is not Prime Joe Nathan, but he is also not Terry Felton. I fully anticipate a whole bunch of "Yeah, but" comments... -
Expect a Boring Trade Deadline for the Minnesota Twins
Twins GFP replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
1) To anybody nervous about making moves this year because last year's moves did not work out the way you would have liked, there is a reason why you are posting here and not working for an MLB club. Your trade currency is people, not robots or baseball cards. You can't assume everything works or that you will win every move (unless you are Tampa Bay). 2) Buxton, Correa, Ober, Ryan, and Duran are probably the only untouchable names on the roster. Everyone else could be had for the right price. That doesn't mean those other players will be traded, but they would be in a discussions (the Twins would not turn down Gray and Kiriloff for Spencer Strider for example.) 3) Team culture plays a much larger role than is ever publicly discussed. Moves made will impact the clubhouse and on field play. 4) I have said this elsewhere, do not downplay the return of Lewis, Polanco, Thielbar, and Stewart. That is a huge shift in roster makeup.- 80 replies

Feels more of a net-neutral trade. One guy with issues for another guy with issues, both teams hoping that a change of scenery will help.

In Defense of Emilio Pagan
Twins GFP replied to NeverSeenATwinsPlayoffWin's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Thank you for responding in exactly the way I was referring to. My verbiage is just semantics... low leverage, mid leverage. I say positive stats, you come back with one negative... I am defending Pagan only to the degree that his performance does not warrant the utter vitriol and negativity that follows the mention of his name. It does not matter what positives are brought up, what role he fills... haters gonna hate. -

IMO, the issue with Pagan really comes down to the fact that people that want to hate on Pagan will hate on Pagan, regardless of the information put in front of them. You can find fault with any pitcher on the roster, but Pagan invites vitriol like nobody else. You could provide 10 positive stats, and the haters will say "Yeah, but...". It really doesn't matter. Like it or not Pagan is filling his mid-leverage roll pretty will this year -
So glad you brought this up Nick. There have been a dozen articles scrutinizing every aspect of what the Twins should do at the deadline. Without making a move, they are expecting to pickup two bats and a reliever in the very near future. The prospects of these three individuals (and Stewart as well) will have a huge impact on how the Twins view the deadline...

Planning Minnesota's Perfect 2023 Trade Deadline
Twins GFP replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I may be in the minority here, but I do not see a bullpen move being a top priority. Sure, they will make a move for Robertson or another quality arm if they can get one on the cheap, but I think they have bigger issues: 1) They need to make a decision on Buxton. Everybody can see he is not healthy and is generally hurting the team. Are they willing to pull the plug on him to get him healthy? 2) Another higher contact bat would be a strong addition. You could argue the only positions that are "locked" are catcher and shortstop. Everyone else provides enough positional flexibility that the aren't blocking a move. 3) Do not overlook Dallas Keuchel. Him deciding not to opt out could play a huge role here.- 53 replies

Nothing puts a smile on my face more than Lance Lynn stinking against the Twins (though Kendrys Morales might give him a run for the money).

A little off track, but I don't read too much into any perceived lack of pitching depth in the minors. The big team gutted the depth by calling everybody up in the last 18 months: Ryan Ober Duran Moran Jax Balazovic That isn't necessarily a bad thing today. Three years of rebuilding that depth sounds about right.

Never mind the fact this was over 20 years ago with a different regime, I would consider a rental to no longer be a twin after the season. Stewart re-signed with the Twins after that season. I do not see Bellinger re-signing with the Twins under any circumstances. The spark comment has merit, but I do not see Bellinger being that option. Still a hard pass for the Twins.

I am still waiting for the " Gallo, Kepler and Pagan" package to be offered... One fell swoop we would shut down 75% of the TD posts.

Historically they Twins do not trade for rentals, they look for guys to keep. A left handed hitting OF that is going to be expensive and has not shown to be consistent? I don't see the Twins even considering this...

Not happening. Love Goldy, but you would have to negotiate a contract extension that would probably be an overpay for the downside of his career. AK is cost controlled for a long time. Looking at 2024, if things continue the way they do, you are probably looking at AK as a starting OF with Julien at 1B. I would feel more comfortable with a little more proven experience out there, but that does not seem to be the way the Twins roll (Miranda and Gordon being handed the keys for example).

How Much Does Sonny Gray Get Paid?
Twins GFP replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think this hits all the talking points. We know all it takes is some crazy team (hello NYM), but 3 yrs sounds about right. The dollar range sounds about right, but it would not surprise me to see an AAV closer to $30. The Twins probably already know if they are close to what Grey's camp is asking for.- 22 replies
