  1. 100% Gray will reject the offer. That being said, there is still a decent chance he is pitching in a Twins uniform next year. At this stage in his career, a 3/$45 contract is better than a 1/$20.
  2. I am not a big fan of long term contracts for SP, no matter how good they are. Four year max on a SP. Too many injuries, too many things can go wrong. I would rather see them go after these guys with a shorter term/higher AAS. It mitigates the risk. Would love to have Gray back at those numbers. Outside of a very few guys, I am starting to believe the Twins would be in on any player they choose to go after.
  3. I would tend to agree with that sentiment, but they are not going to go out and spend $15M on that position. Unless the Twins 100% know Buck is not going to play CF next year, they are not going to get a "starting level" player. MAT was basically perfect in that role, bringing him back makes a lot of sense. I can see a path for a high end 1B. Kiriloff is a decent OF and could ultimate move Wallner to RF when Kepler leaves.
  4. This is a small thing, but Bremer leaving was a story on every sports website except for ESPN. ESPN didn't touch it. I know we aren't the Yankees, Red Sox, or Dodgers, but that is just sad...
  5. The other factor here is that the Twins aren't building a team from scratch. With the exception of Gray/Maeda decisions, most of the decisions they need to make are on role players. Assuming Kepler and Polanco are picked up, and Kiriloff and Buxton are healthy enough to start the season (big ifs, I know), they are basically set for next year. No reason for big moves unless something falls into their lap again.
  6. Like it or not, his contract is sunk money. Everybody knew the risks involved when he signed his big contract. We all knew there was a chance his health would not hold up for a full season. This is the main reason the Twins were able to get him so cheap. A defensive specialist with some pop? Seriously? So he is Michael A Taylor in your eyes? When Buck is healthy and playing CF, he is one of the most impactful players in baseball.
  7. Gladden would be perfect for television. The fans won't have to worry about his inability to call a game and his horrendous grasp of the English language. They can just turn the volume down and still know what is going on.
  8. Money, Money, Money, Money... MONEY!!! I am guessing he can still be had for under $1.5M. Viable risk for Nick Punto Jr.
  9. So in your opinion, at least one more. Got it...
  10. How many more articles do we need to see touting the depth in the minors and the canny decisions made by the FO before people stop calling for their heads? Just wondering...
  11. I am struggling to see why everyone is giving up on Buxton already. Have a backup in place, yes. But to write him off completely makes zero sense right now.
  12. Basically the only untouchables right now are Correa and Buxton. The "it would take a perfect trade" guys are Duran and Lewis. Everybody else has a level of availability if the Twins thought it would improve their team. After the dealings with Correa and Buxton, we-as-fans need to re-evaluate how the front office looks at things. I don't think any available player, either FA or trade candidate, is off the table.
  13. Not crazy at all. I have always thought Maeda back was a strong possibility. I wouldn't go QO, I would go 2/$30 with a 3rd yr team option. He has been really good in Minnesota, could be strong as a SP or RP.
  14. I agree with the regional viewership statement because it has always been that way. Baseball does not promote the league as a whole, the teams are generally left to fend for themselves. Baseball is more a collection of independent contractors compared to NFL/NBA. They need to pivot and start using a more national model or the smaller teams will eventually die.
  15. Lots of calls to replace Solano with an in-house candidate. With all of the injuries and player movement this year, I think if the Twins felt there was a solid in-house candidate we would have seen him. Still early in the offseason, but still huge questions on Kiriloff. I would not be surprised to see a run at a "full-time" guy either through trade or FA. If the Twins do not like what they see, a reunion with Solano on another 1 yr deal is very plausible.
  16. I see what you did there...
  17. If my memory serves, those rights are held by the teams, not the broadcasters. Revisit the spat between the Orioles and Nationals from a few years back. The big issue with regional broadcasting is that the big cities stay richer and the smaller cities suffer. The bigger cities are not willing to give up that type of income, that financial advantage for the greater good of the league. Unlike NFL and NBA which grew on the back of national broadcast deals benefiting the entire league as a whole, baseball has always been about their region. This is probably the biggest issue facing baseball today that does not get enough press.
  18. Does everyone here realize that a subscription to MLBtv does us no good? MLBtv is still restricted by the regional blackout rules. That is the whole problem. A national television/streaming contract is the only way to ensure the long term viability of baseball. Do you think Packers or Bills would survive without a national NFL contract?
  19. As long as MLB lives in the world of regional television rights, small and mid-market teams will not be able to maximize profits. The Twins would better off with MLB and a national broadcast deal. Going local is short-sighted, they need to be able to be seen in the five state area, along with pushing into Montana and Nebraska.
  20. This is not a black and white scenario. Injuries will happen. Pitcher effectiveness will change. There is a lot of offseason to go: Gray, Maeda, Pagan... Many decisions have to be made before Varland will know what 2024 looks like.
  21. The discussion here is whether or not MAT will be a starting CF vs a 4th OF. On a strong offensive team, he can be your 8th/9th guy because his defense is so valuable. The Twins brough him in as insurance for Buxton. I am not sure we could have done better for the cost. If the expectation is for Buxton to play 120 games in CF next year, the Twins approach to MAT would be different. If they know for sure Buxton will not be available, you start looking for a higher end player. Personally, for the cost, I would bring him back for the exact same reasons they signed him last year. We just don't know about Buxton.
  22. I concur. I was expecting something realistic like Lamont Wade, Kyle Gibson, or Zack Littell. Heck, I could even hear arguments for Eddie Rosario. Miguel Sano? Really? Kind of embarrassing...
  23. My moniker is for the announcer, not the player. But any all-time Twins team that has Dan Gladden in consideration doesn't hold much water in my book.
