  1. Did anyone else notice Buxton is not among the confirmed guests for TwinsFest?
  2. You can’t keep Kriskie on the bench all weekend and expect to win.
  3. I took my kid to the game on Sunday. Got 'free' tickets from Kwik Trip, took the Northstar into town, brought our own food/snacks/drinks in a cooler and got $10 in 'free' concessions for signing up for the My Twins scam. This is the way. I'm not strong enough to quit the Twins, but I will be extremely mindful about spending money with them until they show a willingness to do otherwise.
  4. If there was a city ready for a team to relocate, the A's would already be on their way. Instead, they are going to play in a minor league park on artificial turf this season in Sacramento. The Twins aren't going anywhere.
  5. Thanks for these recaps every week Nick. I can only imagine how much work goes into them, especially when everything went negative. You all do an amazing job with this site.
  6. Personally, I don't think the players should be "cut," but they are backups for a reason. I think the best players should play full games in most situations and the backups spell them as needed. Does Manny Margot get into 116 games for any other playoff team with a -0.5 WAR? Austin Martin with 86 games played and a -0.8 WAR? If the Twins want to do the super-platoon thing, they need to invest in better players all the way down the roster. Otherwise, you play whatever studs you can afford to keep and ride them until the wheels fall off. They love talking about player development and whatnot, but how did Larnach feel after being lifted in a clutch situation for Christian Vazquez? Is that a positive for his development/psyche? Or Wallner sitting on the bench for a 28-year-old rookie?
  7. One of my fondest Twins memories is going to Dome Souvenirs Plus with my grandpa after one of the World Series games when I was nine in 1991. He bought a 91 Upper Deck Willie Banks rookie for $5 and told me it would someday pay for my college.
  8. Haven't been to a bobblehead day in many years, bringing my Duran-obsessed 6 yo on Saturday for one. Any advice for how early to get there and/or what gate we should aim for? Thanks in advance!
  9. The way the Oliva card says "Minnseota" is driving me nuts!
  10. Last night I was at the game and, of course, had to take my five-year-old souvenir shopping. We were checking out the game-used booth when this caught my eye. That's right my friends, an empty, unsigned, completely unremarkable EMPTY bucket of gum for the low, low price of $300. How do they sell this with a straight face?! We got him a Duran jersey instead!
  11. Nelson Cruz for Joe Ryan was a clear win. Graterol for Maeda was pretty good. Eduardo Escobar for Jhoan Duran was a win. Getting rid of Donaldson in a trade was a massive W as well. Don't get me wrong, there are many more that turned out terribly but these were all pretty good trades.
  12. I remember Erin Andrews interviewed Hamilton first, which was odd since he lost, then turned and called Morneau “Jason” to start their interview.
  13. I took this photo during Sunday's game. A picture perfect June afternoon, first place against second place. The entire outfield is completely empty. The fans are letting their money do the talking. It isn't the stadium, it isn't Minneapolis, it's just boring, robotic baseball with little energy. Something has to give.
  14. The Twins are averaging 10.25 K's per game. Luis Arraez has struck out 11 times all season. I am still not against the trade at all, but it does seem like Arraez is exactly what this team is missing.
  15. There has been a lot of talk on TD about how the Correa deal changed the narrative surrounding the ownership and front office. However, from my perspective, the Correa deal only got the Twins to 17th in payroll, which is almost exactly where they have been for the last 10-15 years. On the other hand, this deal makes me think we may be seeing a change in philosophy from the FO/ownership as Cody described so well in this summary. Take some risk for a potentially huge reward on a solid, established pitcher right before his earning power potentially skyrockets. I also credit Lopez for not chasing every last available cent and agreeing to a deal that works for both sides. 10/10 deal, even if it blows up it is the right thing to do for the Twins.
  16. Awesome post. Looking forward to watching this kid rake for years to come!
  17. It is a good deal for some but doesn't do a lot for families with little kids wanting to go to games. Going to ask a five year old to stand still at a railing for 3.5 hours while I hold the two year old? When I was without kids, yeah, great deal for sure.
  18. This is the main question I am asking... Those negotiations with the Mets and Giants must have gotten nasty!
  19. TD: Okay, if you’re just tuning in, we’re taking calls. Tonight’s subject is Carlos.. Have you seen him? Has he said anything about us? Let’s take another call. Hello? Caller #1: Hey, TD, I saw Carlos in Atlanta with his family. TD: The one in Georgia? Caller #1: Oh, yeah. TD: Really? Did he look happy? Caller #1: Yeah. I guess so. TD: [ upset ] Good. Good for him, that’s great. Seriously, that’s really, really good. I can’t tell you how happy I am for him. Caller: Okay, man, see you later. [ hangs up ] TD: Okay, good. He deserves to be happy. I’m glad, I really am. [ changing the subject ] Alright, now’s the time in the show when I like to give Carlos a call and hang up on him. [ dials phone, it rings twice ] Carlos on phone: Hello? [ TD hangs up sadistically ] TD: That was great! Now, let’s bring out my first guest. He lives down the street from me, and has known Carlos since kindergarten, Daryl Fitzsimmons [ Daryl greets us, then sits down ]. Hey, uh, Daryl, don’t you think Carlos and the Twins made a good couple? Daryl Fitzsimmons: [ reflecting ] Yeah.. definitely. TD: I know. What’s with him? Daryl Fitzsimmons: [ continuing to reflect ] I don’t know, man. TD: Okay, thanks for coming by, Daryl. Daryl Fitzsimmons: Thanks! [ leaves the set ] TD: Okay, uh, let’s move on to this week’s Carlos Trivia Question. The question is: Last summer when Carlos took his niece to Chuck E. Cheese, how long did Carlos say we’d be together? The answer is: Forever. Hmm.. I guess in Chuck E. Cheese, Forever means Eight Months. [ upset ] I can’t believe he did this to us! It’s not fair. What did I do wrong, Carlos? Just tell me, and I’ll stop doing it! Tonight, we have a brand new segment for our show. Let’s call up the guy I heard Carlos has been negotiating with, and hang up on him. [ dials phone, it rings twice ] Steve Cohen on phone: Hello. Hello? Hello?? TD: [ sadistically ] I’m gonna kill you. Cohen: [ angry ] Who is this?? TD: [ hangs up quickly ] Okay! That really was fun. Now, every week on the show, I like to take out an old quote Carlos said to me, and sigh painfully as I read it. This one was from the All Star Break. [ He reads note, sighs painfully, reads, sighs painfully, reads, sighs. ] Okay. Now is the part of the show where I look at Carlos' picture, and I talk to it. [ Picks up Carlos' picture, stares at it ] Why? Why do you push me away when all I want to do is love you? Take me back, Carlos, please..
  20. You can love him or hate him but the fact that Boras played the Twins re:Correa and then after Correa left still convinced the Twins to give Joey Gallo $11m is some high-level agenting.
  21. I honestly am not a Correa guy between the cheating and clearly using the Twins as a stepping stone for bigger and better things. However, I fear people breathing sighs of relief over the length and size of the contract are simply denying the current and future financial state of the sport. The days of hometown discounts and loyalty are over. It’s no longer the game we watched as kids, on the field or off the field. The Twins and their leadership need to adapt or be left behind. More and more teams are spending like “big market” teams. Again, join or be left behind in my opinion. It’s wild that the Timberwolves roster of 15 people ($147 million) in a capped sport is (as of today per Spotrac) almost $100 million more than the Twins 40 man in an uncapped sport. Same market size right?
