Thanks for sharing! My brother is a Marlins fan, so we went to the first game at that stadium against the Cardinals a few years ago. It was hopping at the ballpark that day until ownership carted the shadow of Muhammed Ali out on the field. I've never been a member of a larger group of people in awkward silence. Kyle Lohse beat Josh Johnson. The Marlins had cheerleaders then. Do they still have them now? I haven't seen cheerleaders at too many baseball fields. The Bobbleheads were cool. Sound like you had a fun trip. Good stuff!

I liked that last pitch from a tall guy last night (8/5). Congrats to Colina! He seems to be well on his way to at least the top 20 prospects (two spots should be opening via Arraez and Thorpe soon). I'd once again like to get excited about Ober, but his knack for getting hurt gives me pause. It's the same type of pause that happens when I want to hope that we will all look back to August 5th, 2019 as the night that Trevor May became a true bullpen beast. Damn you, Molly Hatchet, and your damn song too.

Doesn't Arraez have enough MLB PAs now that he is no longer a prospect?

Eddie is just being Eddie. I'd like to see that final step in maturity, but, other than the current Cruz, there isn't another guy that I would want to have the ball or the bat than Eddie with the game on the line. I'd like to see the micro-tantrums after pop-ups and the sulks after grounders right at infielders on the right side stop, but I know that he is probably upset at himself for letting his team down. The Buxton situation is the one that concerns me. If this were the Yankees or the Dodgers, you just pay four starting outfielders. This isn't the Yankees or Dodgers, so you have to have a Marwin Gonzalez. My outside the box thinking is to approach Royce Lewis about being the Marwin Gonzalez replacement. I think he has the makeup for it and he likely has the ability to be a plus defender at many of the positions. Do that, and you can probably afford to pay Buxton and have a plan B for the yearly IL stints. By the time Lewis' control time is up, Buxton will be 32 or older. At that point, you can choose one to attempt to keep: an aging Buxton or a Boras-repped Lewis.

I agree, but they don't need Stashak to be a top four guy right now. They just need him to do what he did last night. Come in, pitch two innings and throw 15 of 18 for strikes when the game is all but decided. Don't make Rocco and Wes even think about warming someone else up.

The postgame Romo interview made me happy. Cruz and Romo will be invaluable during a playoff push.

Front Page: 2019 MLB Trade Deadline Review
MMMordabito replied to Cooper Carlson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Yankees getting nothing is the best part of this deadline event. -
Maybe the Twins wanted Vallimont, but the Fish said, "Well, then you have to take Romo off our hands." "If we're going to take Romo, then you have to give us someone else ... One of these guys .... We'll give you a few days to think about it." Vallimont = Rule 5 Eligible 2021 Good move.

Poppen's stuff looked good. I'm definitely intrigued. He has quite a bit of work to do on the command and control though. If the Twins had been playing Oakland or New York, I'm quite certain he would have contributed to the problem instead of the solution.

I would love for the Twins to get Kennedy. Since it isn't my money, I would trade a package of lower end guys that have to hit the 40 and a GCL flyer to the Royals and take on all the salary. I doubt the Twins would do that though. Jaylin Davis, Jovani Moran and Donny Breek for Ian Kennedy and his full salary. I'm not as high on Diekman at this point. He walks way too many guys and that's been killing the Twins. I'd rather just go rent a LOOGY like Avilan from the Mets. Avilan doesn't have any control, but he won't make sense in 2020 anyway with the new 3 batter rule. The Mets are not deploying him properly.

Diaz and Gordon have to be at the top of the list for movement from the Falvine side of the deal. They still have some prospect shine to go along with good seasons. Both will need 40-man slots. I would move both to get some relief pitching. Even rentals. Davis, Wiel and Blankenhorn are all good options for toss-ins to push a deal through. I don't see them being added or protected. If any of the higher end pitching prospects get moved, I hope they are part of a deal that brings back pitching that will help at least through 2020. Balazovic should only move for a high end return. He doesn't need to be added to the 40 for another year. It sucks that Graterol only has 200 pro innings and he already needs to be added to the 40. Injuries suck. It's kind of the same with Griffin Jax, but he was serving our country. I kind of hope he sticks around.

Berríos vs Giolito could be a matchup that we see several times the next few years. Hopefully a good one with a faster pace tonight. Apparently, the Cubs know how to get to Giolito, so maybe the Twins should watch those archives before the game. Bomba #200 should come in this series. Who will hit it? I'm calling Sano, since he also hit #100.

Tailspin time ... Parker should join Morin and Magill ... Duffey got hosed ... Offense can play with anyone when they are on, but not having the horses to protect a six run lead after four and then a four run lead after seven is pathetic

How about a buy low on Dylan Bundy? Could the Twins tweak some things to pull down his HR-rate? Two more years of control. Would Mike Leake actually be an effective target? I'm sure Seattle would like that deal off the books. May not have to give up much in prospects. He is what he is, but he gets deep in ball games (7-7+ IP seven times, less than 5 IP only once) and should help in keeping the pen rested down the stretch. One more year of control @ $16 mill. Robbie Erlin is another interesting player. The Twins need another lefty (unless Thorpe is going to be that guy). He's been down under a .367 BABIP this season, but the peripherals seem better. One more year of control. These guys aren't the Verlanders and Chapmans of the market, but they will likely not cost more than chump change to low level 20-30 rated prospects. I think all three either have upside or fill a need at a lower cost. I want the Twins to go for it, but I'm long on the core team. I don't think a guy like Stroman will get them over the hump, so I'd let someone else overpay.
-
With the way the Twins defense has been playing, is Stroman going to be successful in helping down the stretch? It seems he's pretty dependent on that. Is he going to be greeted at the door with a warning that his outbursts will not be welcome?

This team seems to be attempting to reel me back into believing, only to smash everything in front of me on the concrete during the next series and a probable playoff series. I do need to echo what Kris Atteberry stated several games ago. The best thing for the Twins is to keep Cleveland about 3-4 games away until the trade deadline. Keep them believing, so they won't trade Bauer or Hand for org altering prospects.
