  1. I hate to see what Falvey/Zoll bring in next season to replace Vazquez and the overpay they will perform. The FA crop next season is not very shiny. I have suggested trading top prospects for a top catching prospect but I suspect that they will muddle along and watch our catching get worse and worse.
  2. 7.00 mil with an option. Second year has a 750k buyout. So 7.75 mil guaranteed. For sure beyond Twins money. The Twins can afford nobody until the guys that are left who will sign for an milb. Go with what we have.
  3. In all fairness I think people are cranky because it's been a long off season and one of nothing. They drafted a Rule 5 guy and traded for 2 fringe catchers and made a couple of milb signings. There's been a Cease rumor. That's it. Everyday we check here, mlbtr, other sources. Nothing. Not even a rumor of a low tier FA to help with holes. So I guess I'll give people slack if they seem irritated. I'm thinking this is probably a poor way to have happier fans after the 2024 collapse.
  4. Anyway imo this is now a dead rumor. The rumor started around Vazquez. The Padres yesterday signed Elias Diaz making SD's immediate interest in Vazquez not there.
  5. Why on earth would the Twins trade for Cease? The answer to the question is: They won't. This is Falvey's idea of being creative, having a few rumors swirl around.
  6. Falvey has not addressed the catching situation this off season. He hasn't gotten "creative." It's getting kicked down the road to next off season. And in my opinion has no intent to be creative. It is mere talk to try to keep the fans engaged, even has the good fortune of Cease rumors being floated around. This is just talk until ST starts and fans then are distracted by actual baseball. There is now not one FA left who is, a. realistic for us to sign or b. that I am even interested that we sign, Go with what we have entirely. I'm sick of every article bringing up the "budget." Let's go to ST and see what we have. I believe we have an 80 win 4th place team myself. The holes this has haven't been addressed either, and they are still there.
  7. "The fiasco in '22 where our fantastic catching corp was demolished," How about Doctor if he took advantage of now to fix that? I've been advocating all off season for a major trade for a young ML ready Catcher. I like Rushing. Ford. Salas. I maybe most like Quero.. Swap top prospects for top prospects. Emrod or Keaschell for Quero. Other pieces to make it work.
  8. I like both deals. I know quite a few are against Arraez but I'd love for him to be back. Like both deals, except, who is going to replace Castro? Arraez would give us depth in infield but the loss of Willi hurts OF and 3B/SS options. I'm OK with moving Zebby, he's not a guarantee and we have options plus then Cease.
  9. LAD says laugh. They were able to dump Margot AND get SS Miller besides. I'm with the doctor on this one. This was Falvey's idea of creativity last February. That kind of creativity is frightening.
  10. Yep, I think Vazquez stays. I believe McCann and Grandal are still available though no? But I value D in a catcher and both of those no longer pass behind the plate imo. There are still a couple of 1B that could be useable, Canha, Grichuk. I'm OK with going with what we have too. Paddack is really the only trade we have left. I like him as insurance but we should have enough to cover. That leaves prospects as mainly what we'd have to trade. Castro is too needed here to deal as well. Big hole if he's not replaced.
  11. Thanks, I forgot about Santana already. My bad. So they hit on 1 out of 3. Doesn't cut it. DeSclafani was key to the deal and that was money thrown away. Topa did nothing. The magic beans they acquired with them mean nothing. But back to Santana, if they themselves had really believed in him then why not have signed him for two? Or one and an option with buyout? My best bet is Santana would have been game. He wants to play.
  12. Yes, by all means give Martin lots of reps in CF in ST. Isn't that the point of ST? If he's shown by March 27 that he's not adjusting then he doesn't play. Its not complicated and it does no harm for him to be practicing in CF. Something just might click for him and he becomes the player he was forecast to be. If not he gets dispatched to St.Paul.
  13. Elias Diaz signs with SD. So their need for a catcher is likely gone. By playing the waiting game this year Falvey will be left with no one to play with. This would have likely been a good off season to get the most value out of Jeffers that he will still have for us.
  14. Creativity. I mentioned the outline of a three way trade in another thread. Acquire Rushing from LA. Jeffers to SD. Duran to LAD. Brandon Valenzuela from SD in the deal. Prospects from SD to even it all out. Trade Paddack with some cash for prospect/s. Trade Vazquez with cash for prospect/s. Sign Ha-Seong Kim. Solidifies the infield and allows guys we have to fill in at 1B with Miranda and get some COF AB's. Cash out on Jeffers and Duran while they still have value and other clubs have needs.
  15. Yep, and when your big additions in the past two seasons have been Margot and DeSclafani. Their is no excuse. People can blame ownership for making the cuts, I'm not applauding this, but the GM has to make the right calls. Bring in the guys he did and get rid of Miller and Polanco. People will say "look what a bad year Jorge had, it was the right move to trade him." We have no idea how the trade affected Polanco. He may have had an entirely different season here than he had in Seattle. But I would still have taken what Jorge produced in 2024 over what was brought in. Money would have been about the same too as what Margot and DeSclafani cost.
  16. The organizational Bomba philosophy destroyed Austin Martins approach to hitting and he still hasn't recovered. Edit: I'll place Julien in the same category as Martin. You take players away from playing to their strength's and then Rocco spews out jibberish like he's now a fundamental baseball genius. I don't recall saying it on here before, but this guy shouldn't be managing this club.
  17. This is just it. You've been preaching and teaching this philosophy to the same guys since they started with the team in the minors. Now you change the approach on them in mid stream and they are just supposed to instantly adjust. Good luck.
  18. If the long-term catching problem isn't addressed this off season, it should be, what will Falvey do next? Based on his mo he will make a drastic overpay for a declining J.T. Realmuto. I can see it now 3 years for about 55 mil. Or he'll have to sign someone along the lines of Tucker Barnhardt. Jeffers has value now. Take advantage of it. Duran has value now. Take advantage of it. Before they walk and we get nothing.
  19. We can continue to do nothing and be a team that competes for the Central. Sometimes win it, sometimes collapse. We can continue to look at the holes and hope they someday get filled. Or we can be proactive. SD is known to want more catching. LAD is still looking for pen arms. We are looking for a long-term solution to our catching. A three team trade could be worked out that fits the needs of these clubs. The base of it would be Rushing comes to MN along with Brandon Valenzuela from SD. Duran goes to LAD. Jeffers goes to SD. SD gives up some of their other prospects to even all of it out. This trade might be used to fill our LHRP need as well. With this move Vazquez could get moved, without leaving us with Camargo as our backup C. Paddack still gets traded. We now have money to acquire a 1B/COF. Three team trades though can be complicated and I don't know if Falvey/Zoll are in shape to do one with all of the time off they have taken.
  20. My honest opinion is we are vastly improved with Keirsey. I'd be very happy with the Castro of 2024 again, even with the late season dropoff. And yes use some of the milb depth we have to obtain a promising franchise C. We have pieces to use for this besides our top 5 prospects. We have Paddack, Julien, we can even use Vazquez. We both value Vazquez but for the right return he's very much available. We have Gabriel Gonzalez. There are other prospects that should be cashed out on instead of watching them crash and burn here. I'm one who would still like to have seen a significant FA upgrade to this team. I'm not talking Bregman or Alonso. I don't even want them here. The guy I would have liked is still available. I get that he is a risk and isn't likely available to start the season. That guy is HaSeong Kim. He would do so much to stabilize our infield. I value defense more than most. He would allow us to get some of our other infielders some time at 1B without hurting the rest of the infield. I also know the chance of this team signing Kim has about a tenth of 1% chance or less. But I'd love this move for this team. If Paddack, Vazquez and Julien were used for a legitimate catcher we would easily have the money for Kim too. Just my opinion.
  21. I am probably one of the few but I'm not in favor of salary caps. Why should anyone be limited to what they can make? If Soto can find someone to pay him 700 and whatever million why can't he go for it? Yes these numbers boggle my mind and I can't even comprehend them. But we shouldn't be limiting anyones making as much as they can. It likely only produces other problems with a cap. My honest opinion is a bigger problem for the sport is when teams like Mia, Pit, Cin go about spending little or nothing year after year. How does a cap fix that?
  22. So many of todays OPS crazed fanatics would have never allowed Ozzie Smith to be the greatest SS the game has ever seen because he carried a .666 career OPS and an OPS+ of 87. The next time this team finds and drafts a great SS glove I sure do hope they don't allow analytic stats to cloud their view and throw him away.
  23. Andres Gimenez is going to make 100 million dollars over the next 5 years. Because he can flat out field. We don't know if Miller will hit as well as Gimenez. He is still developing. But to be cast away for a year of Margot???? Oh but we got Doncon!!!!
  24. Good points. Don't forget though that when this franchise finally does draft, and well on his way to developing as a bona fide SS, they trade him to the Dodgers for Manuel Margot. And then it gets excused away because "he can't hit." Which we don't yet know if he will further develop that skill or not. I believe he will. What a waste. A kid that would have been our SS until well into the 2030's. Noah Miller. For Manuel Margot. smh
