  1. See post below your post. Trade Rosario, trade Buxton, trade for Betts and Price, go after Coles, Bryant, So you trade prospects for a player to give you the flexibility to trade roster players for other players. Sounds continuous to me.
  2. Unfortunately, Jack if all trades, master of none is not great for recognition. Definitely helps a baseball team. There should be a category simply as "ball player". Should be in. By the way, great off season thread.
  3. Or, really anyone else for that matter. Thanks for not being a would be GM as those who aren't happy unless the Twins are making some kind of a major roster move continuously. The Twins could literally go bankrupt trying to make every move under the sun and the NY team more than likely will be playing in the last week of Oct. and then the same cry will be "Why can't we beat the Yankees?" Let the season play out for a while and if it makes sense to go after the whole ball of wax this year maybe give it a shot. If they can't win the Central again this year fire Rocco.
  4. Twins will begin the 2020 season as a contending team. That is good enough. Then let the games begin and all of a sudden the speculation ends and the record speaks for itself. Clearly what separates the Twins from being one of the favorites to go deep into the playoffs is that they don't have established true stars on the pitching staff. All that means is that the pitching staff has to prove itself on the field, not that they aren't good enough. I am very satisfied that they haven't ham strung themselves with a long term multi $10mil/year contract. There is a team in NY that, if they stay healthy and perform up to expectations is odds on to play in the last week of October no matter what the Twins do. They still have to prove it on the field too. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.
  5. Regardless of who hits lead off, there are no easy outs and Cruz is in a great spot with Donaldson on deck and Sano in the hole. No pitch arounds. Lets play 2.
  6. "I would hope Sano is doing the same this off season because it has been an issue for him." All the talk about signing this or that player or trading this or that player but what the players who do wear Twins' uniforms do during the off season means as much if not more. Hope they are all physically and mentally ready now in less than a month. Hard to believe, Super Bowl, a 2 week break and then its baseball time again.
  7. Title of thread is "World Series or Bust". That leaves 2 options. Other than Donaldson, the team is essentially the same one that did win 101 games last year but relied heavily on leading MLB in 4 baggers and a great pre All Star record. Cleveland still was making a run until Sano's memorable slam that took the wind out of their sails. Bust is a real possibility (please see Twins record after Molitor's MOY award.) Just go out and play games and let the record speak for itself. Teams (or fans on their behalf) that anoint themselves during the off season rarely make it. All you have to do is go no further back than last years Phillies who had themselves drinking champagne after signing Harper.
  8. Donaldson signing just not enough? That made perfect sense because it moves Sano to first which was essentially open. Plus it improves the offense and defense at the same time and adds a little fire to the lineup. But that is still not enough. The core of the lineup that won 101 games deserves to be run out there one more time at least Signing a Betts or a Price for big bucks would destroy the makeup of the team and would be a disaster. I would like Betts to be available as a ringer if the Twins have an off season bowling team. He is great on those PBA/amateur tv bowling tournaments.
  9. Hey Ewen, I was Diehard3 on the mlb board. Still looking forward to shinguard day. Real question will be, how will Sano work out at #7's old position? Notice I said, "work out".
  10. Don't have time for this. Too busy working on next year's Washington Redskins Super Bowl roster. Can't figure out which QB to make inactive.
  11. There will always be players out there in the world of baseball that would be nice to have and the existing roster will always be less than perfect. Play ball.
  12. Playoffs? Playoffs? How about winning the Red Wings game on March 23?
  13. Here is another rhetorical question. What team would not like to add another QUALITY, PROVEN starting pitcher? Just asking.
  14. "......How about Paul Goldschmidt, or how to pitch to him? That’ll impress the hell out of me, because I sure don’t.”...... At least Gardenhire is consistent. I'll never forget his "I know nothing about pitching" comment when asked about why one of his Twins pitchers pitched to a hitter in whatever way it was, quickly deflecting blame to his pitching coach. By the way, I thought baseball was a game and plenty of baseball games are on at night so those are night time game shows. At least the Tigers picked a perfect manager.
  15. jorgenswest in part posted: "I don’t think we needed metrics to show us that Arraez, Polanco and Sano were well below average with the glove last year but here is another one with negatives around the infield. As a team the Twins converted were well below average at converting balls in play into outs. That needs to improve. If not it will lead to longer innings, shorter starts and an overworked bullpen." Two interesting points. The first regarding metrics as opposed to the "eye test" I fully agree with. Show me a practice session one time and I don't need to read some obscure stat. Main thing is to make the routine plays nearly 100% of the time. The ones that make Sports Center's" top 10 plays are made by all of the players one time or another. I remember Polanco makiong a play against the Os that Jim Palmer said was one of the best plays he had ever seen. The balls in play converted into outs stat is probably such a small differentiator that its impact on a single game is meaningless. Also, does a solid no doubter base hit count as one of those "balls in play" or are pitchers not accountable for this stat? Watch an infield practice session and I will make a judgement; forget the geek stats by people who are trying to find a nitch in a sport that they have probably never played.
  16. He has to actually do it for a whole season but Miguel and Byron both need to step up this year. If they do all the talk about what was not done in the off season will be forgotten. Football is almost done and baseball is just around the corner again. We will soon find out about the 2020 version.
  17. Speaking of spring training, it still amazes me that position players report on 2/17 and the Grapefruit schedule begins on the 22nd so many players spend a good chunk of the spring session riding on buses. I know they break up the team and all don't "suit up" for every game and many stay behind and practice or do so on separate fields for home games. Still, it would seem that more intra squad games and game simulations in addition to standard drills would be more beneficial. What is the true benefit of so many games when its possible to play an entire game without making a single play on defense and ab's are few and meaningless in most cases? A useless question admittedly but I think it is valid. Could it possibly be about the money?
  18. Just swap teams (and salaries) with the Yankees and be done with it. Oh, and also uniforms because that is what the past Twins have been losing to, not the players. Needless to say, there will always be trades and other means of player turnover. So far, none of the "Twins Talk" suggestions have been in the mix and none will probably be in the future. So how about waiting until players actually show up at Ft. Myers in February and see what happens from there? Hard to believe but less than 2 months remain. I am more concerned with the initial 7 game west coast road trip than some "make a trade just to make a trade" scheme.
  19. Except Suzuki just finished a nice year for the World Series champs, had some huge hits for them and evidently wasn't too shabby behind the plate. The amazing thing about the Castro signing was that that was their big move for that off season and somehow he was supposed to turn pitchers like Gibson into Cy Young award winners because of his "framing" ability. Castro is a good solid Major League catcher and that is enough but he is not going to transform anybody. It was the Twins who got "framed".
  20. All of the negativity is a result of 3 games against the Yankees after winning 101 games. What if the Twins had at least won that home playoff game after dropping the 2 in NY? What if they had gone on to win the second home game and forced a game 5? What if they had won that game and played Houston for the ALCS? Would that have made the "doomsdayer" sign every free agent on the market folks any happier? My guess is no. Are Houston fans happy? My guess is no. Signing Bailey and Hill is perfect. At least wait until its time to count wins and losses again in just a few months before being critical. Then there may be no reason to.
  21. The window has been open since 1991 or 28 years going on 29. This year's Nationals are a classic example of why you simply play every game as hard as you can until it is "over". 30 teams, 162 games plus playoffs if you get there. Objective is to be good enough to contend and don't beat yourself. 2020 Yankees should be a lock to win it all but they still have to do it.
  22. At least start counting wins and losses before complaining about off season performance. Nothing like having a great off season. Just ask the Washington Redskins.
  23. Lost in all of this is whether or not Buxton and Sano, who I think are already on the Twins' roster, can finally stay active for an entire season and live up to their potential. That in itself would be a plus. In 2019 The Twins won 101 games as a team and simply did not perform against the Yankees. Looking for miracles on the free agent market would guarantee nothing and could possibly be a disruption. Its hard to improve over 101 wins and the idea of projecting a mythical roster into the playoffs is a mistake. It could also be a fact that this years Yankees really are unbeatable no matter what the Twins or any other team do so why bother. Just be happy you are not in the East and play ball.
  24. She sounds like a real winner. Glad she was around for the 101 win season. I'm sure she will say hello to Harmon now that she is in the same place.
