  1. How long is long term? And how important is short term? Castro has been better than Gordon so far this year and to me it makes little sense short term to keep Gordon on the major league roster, especially if it means optioning Castro. We simply can't keep everyone. Regarding long term, next year things could be completely different and in 2025 things almost certainly will be completely different. In baseball it's nearly impossible to predict how much a player will improve or worsen, and that's especially the case with minor league players. But it's reasonable to expect that there will be someone younger (and less costly) than Castro ready and able to supplant him on the major league team by 2025. So commit to Castro long term? Probably not. But commit to Castro short term? Absolutely.
  2. Winnah! Really, there was only one bad pitch by Duran. Got the job done. 5-1 so far on the road trip. Good work, boys!
  3. Don't forget gratuitous educational content.
  4. The game was 3-1 when the substitution was made.
  5. That's a shame for Maeda, but the boys need to man up and win this game.
  6. Better to use that terminology than what the Hrbek-era Twins team used to do in the '80's. Don't even want to say it.
  7. Say what you will about Denny Green as a coach but this was an all-time great press conference tirade.
  8. I would comment about Kepler's resurgence lasting the rest of the season but I don't want to jinx it.
  9. I'd comment about ROY but I don't want to jinx it.
  10. At about the same time I learned the arithmetic mnemonic I also learned "George Eckert's old grandmother rode a pig home yesterday".
  11. Just to clarify, this is a mnemonic but not an acronym. An acronym is a word that derives from the initials of a phrase, such as snafu (situation normal, all ****ed up) as opposed to the mnemonic we were discussing where the opposite was true--the phrase was derived from the word.
  12. As it happens I actually did do volunteer work at a non-profit radio station back in that era. But it's just a coincidence that the video happened to have that picture.
  13. Pastafarian Prayer Our pasta, who art in a colander, draining be your noodles. Thy noodle come, Thy sauce be yum, on top some grated Parmesan. Give us this day, our garlic bread, …and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trample on our lawns. And lead us not into vegetarianism, but deliver us some pizza, for thine is the meatball, the noodle, and the sauce, forever and ever. R’amen.
  14. OK, that's fine. But that's not what you said. I was going by what you said, not by what you meant.
  15. Math does not care whether it's encouraged or not. Math is the way, the truth, and the light. It was, is, and ever shall be, world without end.
  16. When his team scores 10 runs a manager shouldn't mess with the batting order. If it ain't broke don't break it!
  17. Looked like Kepler missed third base and had to go back.
