  1. It's interesting about baseball. Pretty much everyone agrees that pitching is the most important of the four aspects of the game, followed by hitting, fielding, and base running in that order. But great pitching is boring video and TBH great hitting is not much better. Great fielding plays usually make the best highlights and the Castro-Correa-Jeffers play is a good example. That was really sweet.
  2. I don't know anything about him, but if that were the case I'm sure he'd be getting a lot of time behind the plate. Every team wants and needs good catching so I have to assume his performance was not of high enough caliber.
  3. I know better than to jinx our favorite team with a prediction. But on the surface the saying that it's not just which team you face but when you face them appears to be in our favor. The Tigers are severely reeling and we are not. Go Twins!
  4. Baseball Trade Value. I hadn't heard of this either but a quick Google search was all that was needed. Always remember, Google is your friend.
  5. Many very good baseball players bounced between the majors and AAA early in their careers. Torii Hunter is a good example. Very often these things just take time.
  6. Yep. The St. Croix is the boundary separating us from the dark side, and that's only 28 miles from Target Field.
  7. I agree. I think the Twins' rotation can carry them through a full length postseason run if we are good enough and fortunate enough to do it. I think Ober or Varland are just as good as the fourth starter any other team would use. I almost feel uncomfortable talking about the postseason when it's only June, but keep in mind that for the 3-6 seeds a postseason record of 13-9 would win the whole thing. So it's just a matter of being mildly hot at the right time.
  8. Yes, and as the result of logical reasoning. With the possible exception of schedule changes due to postponements there are enough days off in the postseason schedule to accommodate a 4-man rotation with 4 days off for each pitcher.
  9. Keep in mind that buying at the deadline means overpaying. I think the Twins should and will largely stand pat and hope their hitters improve up to their potential. If the hitters are able to do that the division is ours. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bullpen arm added but if Maeda can perform well in relief he may be that addition. I don't think there are any targets out there that would be worth overpaying for at this point. Regarding catcher, in spite of what the Royals' front office says it would not surprise me for someone to make an offer for Perez that is too good for them to turn down. We will not be that team. If KC could be persuaded to take Vazquez I might try to put something together but again it's not worth it for us to overpay.
  10. "Blue Jays 7, Twins 6: Only the Twins Could Lose Like This" Actually, no. Toronto did essentially the same thing just one game earlier.
  11. The last two games in Toronto elicited from us a manifestation of human nature. Because we are Twins fans here, it's easy to focus on our team with the upshot being that we blame our players when things go poorly and we credit our players when things go well. But that's not fair or consistent. Compare and contrast the last two games in Toronto. If the result on Saturday was because our batters did well, then the result on Sunday was because their batters did well. If the result on Sunday was because of Pagan, then the result on Saturday was because of Cimber. Of course, neither view is completely accurate. Over the course of 162 games many things happen. As tempting as it is to overemphasize isolated events and individual players I find it's not helpful to do that. Rather, I try to keep taking the long view and keep things in perspective. For example, I tell myself that going 2-4 on the road vs TB and Toronto is not horrible or unexpected. We are in first place in our division and as t&r pointed out we are performing as many or most people expected us to perform. Postseason, here we come!
  12. (Eyes closed, fingers in ears.) LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA
  13. It's no accident that Perez is the most popular and most respected player on the Royals. He's a really good catcher and by all appearances he's a strong and capable team leader. This is also why he has the highest trade value on the team in spite of his contract. Almost every team would be upgraded significantly by adding him to the roster. It's an opportunity for the Royals to improve their organization, but it would be imperative that they get a worthwhile return. And they'll also need to do a good job of handling the PR with their fans. I think the likelihood of him being traded is well over 50%.
  14. If we wanted them to take Kepler we also would have had to send them at least one more prospect.
  15. I think he'd be a good contrast to Thielbar as a lefty setup guy.
  16. This thread has kind of expanded into something more like "Who will the Royals trade, and when, and for how much?" And I think that's close enough to the original intent. They are nowhere near contending this year or probably for 3 years. They have at least 4-6 players who are old enough not to be needed by a rebuilding team but also performing well enough to be on the roster of a contender. The players know this, the fans know this, and of course all the GM's know this. If I'm the Royals GM I'd be saying, "We're open for business. Let the bidding begin!"
  17. I don't know the intricacies of the rules. Could the Twins have activated Larnach with the corresponding move of Garlick being sent down and IL'ing Buxton with the corresponding move of Wallner being called up? Kind of like a double switch.
  18. I expect Garlick to be sent to AAA to balance the activation of Larnach, but I also pose the question: who has more value right now, Garlick or Kepler? And BTW, I believe Wallner is eligible to be placed on the major league roster after tomorrow's game. At that time the next question to be posed: who has more value, Wallner or Kepler?
  19. And one more thing: it's not an experiment. It's simply trying to roll with what is given, doing what they can with what they have and hoping for the best.
  20. I'd say it's far from settled, but I think third base is Lewis' unless and until it isn't. If Miranda returns to form and if Buxton can play CF regularly (neither of which is a small if) I see Miranda as the primary DH during the next few years. Hoping and projecting, Kirilloff will be at 1B, Julien at 2B, Correa at SS, Lee as a utility player with regular usage, Larnach, Wallner, Buxton and Celestino will be the OF. We then fill in with two catchers (presumably Jeffers and someone else) and another utility player. Obviously parts can be mixed and matched but that could be a very competitive roster.
  21. You may be right. Or, for all I know you may be wrong. Can you cite any statistics to support this point of view?
