Let's score some runs today. Rogers in the 3rd inning if we have to. Have him pitch 2-3 innings if needed. I don't care. Odorizi, May, Duffey, Rogers, Romo. No ones else. . I'm done losing with our worst guys out there. More than one walk or one hit given up in a row, yank em and go to the next guy. Also, Rosario in the 8th or 9th spot. Can't give up so many at bats with guys on base. You just can't swing at every pitch.

I agree. Never will they have this kind of offensive output going forward. They just won't and those that are expecting it to be THIS good are probably going to be disappointed next season. They should have gone all in. Should have brought in a better bullpen piece at the deadline, should have signed Keuchel and should have traded for Grienke or someone of that caliber. All it would have cost was one of our top 3 guys(prospects), some money and the same kind of prospects we dealt to get Romo and Dyson.

I don't know what to think about this postseason so far. To me the #1 thing I and almost everyone else noticed, is that Rocco is getting schooled. And badly might I add. He really hasn't made a right decision yet. That said, our hitters have been as bad as the pitching has. The patience they displayed earlier on is gone. All of them, except Cruz, looked SCARED up there. Swinging at bad pitches, letting good pitches go, getting themselves out far too often. The pitching..... Uugh. It's been bad, real bad. Not playoff worthy in the least.

Game 1 is just as important as a game 5. Especially to a team that has been manhandled every single time they face the Yankees. Getting beat like that isn't good for an organization that plays the way they do against the Yanks the way it is. I hate to say it, but this series is probably over already. Yanks in 3. They played scared and backed off the first game and now NY smells blood in the water. It's typical, yet disappointing. I hope I am wrong. I really do. Just not really too confident starting Dobnak tonight. Who knows, maybe the guy surprises. That is basically all he has done this year is surprise people. Here's hoping...

I'm with you on your post. As to the first part. If the plan was to keep the bullpen rested for a game 2 that Dobnak starts, then there is zero reason to pull Berrios at 88 pitches in the 4th inning when he just went 1-2-3. He wasn't just mowing them down, but he was battling and if it were me, if he's still effective and you have the mindset of a bullpen game the next day, then push him out to 110-120 pitches.

Twins hit 3 HRs in the first game of a playoff series. That should get it done if the rest of your lineup gets on base. I agree with you. Lots of bad swings at pitches out of the zone and too many strikeouts. They were caught up in it, you could see that.

But why forfeit a game 1? Silly. Very, very silly. Game 1 is the most important by a long shot. Go all in each game. If towards the end of the series your bullpen is tired, well then you might have to turn to some of those guys. Use and abuse up until then though. There is nothing to save these guys for.

You don't play it safe once you get to the playoffs. The past has shown the team that wins game 1 in a 5 game series wins, it, like 75% of the time. Rocco did a poor job last night. I put this loss on him as much as anyone. At some point you have to realize there are guys that do just fine during the regular season against poor teams in a rotten division, and then there are guys that have real "stuff" and moxie you need to ride when it gets down to brass tacks. I will be extremely disappointed if May, Rogers, and Romo aren't used tonight. I don't care if it is the 4th inning, if a big moment comes up, don't wait, bring in your studs to close the door.

I agree his breaking stuff was too far out of the zone to be competitive, but he pitched alright. He only gave up 1 earned run. He should have been out there for another inning as well, possibly 2. 5-6 IP, 1ER, like 8 Ks. If he had been left to do his thing. I'll take that every single day in a playoff game on the road in Yankee stadium.

Haha. This was reaching at best anyway. We all know the Twins pitching is suspect. Even more so when your manager decides he wants the game in the hands of the bottom of your bullpen rather than your top. I like Rocco, but he made more than 1 poor decision last night. If we are going to lose to the Yankees, lose with your best. You don't need to save guys arms right now it is do or die. The guys he brought in last night besides Duffey, should only be used in games that are already over.

Trevor May will decide this series for the Twins. Write that down. It will be a close game and he is the one most likely to implode IMO. He has to keep it together and throw strikes, attack hitters when we are in a 1-run game and he has to face dangerous hitters. Twins are going to score. I have faith that Cruz is going to have a monster series and if Kepler is back, he is going to have an impact. Sano will hit at least 1 bomb that is going to make a difference as well. NO ERRORS, especially out of the SS position. Polanco must play excellent defense. LETS GO TWINS!!

Front Page: Twins ALDS Roster Announced
Battle ur tail off replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm glad that Adrianza is on the roster. He must be healthy, otherwise I doubt he would be with. I would use him late in the game as a defensive replacement. With Schoop, Aarez, Adriaza, Polanco, you have some nice options there depending upon who starts and who sits. As for the pitching, I don't see a ton of value in having Gibson on there unless you are planning on using him only in mopup situations to keep the rest of your guys fresh. That said, he has done it before and it's the playoffs, anything can happen maybe he gives us some good innings. -
Time to end the damn curse. They just need to pitch at the front end and I think we win. I have faith our best bullpen guys can do it. Need to get to their starters though. Their bullpen is even better than ours has been once you shrink it down and only use their top guys. Something will also likely happen in that stadium. It has every other time. Bad call, cheap HR, something. They need to play through it and no implode when it happens. Win 1 there and they are in good shape.
-
I would think they would put him on the playoff roster either way, won't they? Even if he can't play the field, I would think he could still be used as a late pinch hitter.

I think you have to at least feel it out this offseason. See where he's at as far as what he wants. This kind of guy on the open market in 2 years gets 20-25 million a year if he can keep up the production he has shown this season. Maybe I'm wrong but with the way he hits the ball, I see him as a super hot commodity if he makes it to free agency.
-
Buxton if he stays healthy is probably more valuable, IF and it's an if still, he hits. 2 "IFs" to make Buxton's case. He had 80 games one year and about 30 another where he hit the ball well. Besides that, he has been worse than poor at the plate. Was he turning the corner? That's the hope and if he can OPS .800 or higher with the level of defense he has, he's more valuable. For Sano, I think we might be looking at a top 5 power hitter in MLB here. He has finally gotten himself back to where he started his career where he waits for a pitch he can drive hard and hits it harder and farther than anyone I myself personally have ever seen wearing a Twins uniform. Either way, like has already been expressed, a year or so ago, we didn't know if either of these guys would even stick at the MLB level. Now we are possibly looking at the 2 players we thought we had and that is 2 of the very top players in all of baseball. Keep them both here and add what it takes to get a championship. 06-10 you had it and didn't do anything. This time around lets get it right, not cheap out and go for it. Hopefully this year is the start of a run of dominate baseball here in MN.

Look at how last year's reliever FA's panned out. I wouldn't go wasting tons of money on them this offseason. Especially when you have so many candidates here already that have performed well. Dyson will absolutely be in our pen next year. If it were me, I would be looking to land a #1-3 type starter in FA and resign some of the guys we already have. Get the BEST guy available and lets roll in and pair him with Berrios.
-
Both Gibson and Perez are recipes for disaster in the playoffs. 2 patient lineups you'd be facing, the walks will pile up and you'll be in a huge hole early. I'd leave them both off the playoff roster and also tell them I'm done with them for good unless they are willing to take short term prove it deals. Walking guys and giving up HRs are what these 2 are good for. They will be murdered by either Houston or the Yankees. That or tell them there is 1 spot for the 2 of you, someone win it before the season is over and start whichever one you pick with a very short leash. That said, I don't really like the idea of beating up your bullpen in games you figure you have less than a 50% chance of winning anyway. You know that Ordorizi is likely gonna give you 4-5 innings in each of his starts, that will tax the bullpen. Berrios could go either way. Get knocked out in 2 innings or pitch deep into it. Lets hope its the latter.
-
I was at the game last night. Gibson was not sharp at all. He was hit hard, everything off the bat was a rocket. His pace in the game is also painfully slow and doesn't attack hitters. Flat out, we need some of our guys to get healthy. The lineup they had out there last night had 2-3 automatic outs in it and with our starting pitching being what it is, we can't have that.
