Minor League Report 4/16 The Bats Are Sizzling
rv78 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
If you keep em and play em and lose, verses you cut em and pay em and win with other players which is more productive? Just because you are paying them millions does that mean they play no matter how bad they are? How many games you lose because they can't hit and be productive pieces of your lineup? Evidently if you are Twins management that is what you do. There comes a time when you must cut bait and run and when it comes to Sano and Kepler they missed the boat.- 26 replies

Game Score: Red Sox 8, Twins, 1
rv78 replied to Theodore Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins play like their Manager acts.... complacent, uninspired, unsure, asleep, excuseful. This teams needs someone to light a fire under 'em and unfortunately Rocco isn't the man for the job. Why is it the team they are playing doesn't use the excuse that it is cold for their pathetic offensive production? The last time I looked they were playing in the same stadium as the Twins when they play each other. Could it be most of these players just can't hit? Or maybe it's time to fired the two hitting coaches, Rudy Hernandez and Dave Popken. They surely don't appear to be helping anyone. -
Minor League Report 4/16 The Bats Are Sizzling
rv78 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
And the big league bats are fizzling. It seems the Twins FO is content to win in the minors and lose at the majors. Couldn't some of these guys, like Martin, Lewis and Miranda help the big league club offensively or are we destined to have another full season watching guys like Sano and Kepler ruin the Twins chances.- 26 replies

Put him on the bench and leave him there until he's traded or the end of the season. He's a mistake that has been around too long already and has hurt the team enough. I'd much rather see Urshela or Arraez or Miranda getting his at bats and if they are hitting more than Sano, which wouldn't be difficult, I'd live with one of them learning 1st base defensively, then I at least have someone contributing on offense. 1st base is not a hard position to learn.

Game Score: Dodgers 7, Twins 0
rv78 replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why did Correa need a day off when the next day is a sheduled day off? Unless he asked for it, he'd be out there every day. I know there is only one Cal Ripken Jr. but when I'm paying someone $35M plus, he's going to play every day he can. Rocco babies his players to the point of extreme. It also makes no sense to lose one of your starting outfielders and then put your best outfielder at DH. I guess Buck needed a rest too even though he also has the next day off. If anyone needs to take an extra day off it is Sano hitting 0-19 with 9 strikeouts but he's played every day. It almost seems like Rocco wants to play his worst players every day.- 42 replies

Game Score: Dodgers 7, Twins 0
rv78 replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, Rocco is using the bejesus out of his bullpen like everyone expected. The 2-4 start to the season shows how inept they are. Offensively, the Twins are batting a combined .182 with 60 strikeouts in 6 games. Yes that is offensive. How many of you still believe this team is going to compete for the Division? HA!- 42 replies

Sano and Kirilloff had abysmal at bats yesterday. Kirilloff we can give a pass to. He's young and inexperienced. Sano on the other hand is not. Seems his approach at the plate is the exact opposite of what it should be. Swings at pitches he shouldn't and watches pitches go by that he should swing at. The big question mark up to this point was that he was not in good shape physically. This year he came into camp 20 pounds lighter. Doesn't appear that is the problem. Maybe some day someone can get in his head and teach him how to think like and be like a big league hitter. If he doesn't have a breakout year he needs to be gone by the end of the year. Same thing can be said about Kepler. They are two massive holes in the lineup that kill the offense.

Seems Baldelli has the knack for picking the worst pitcher to be a closer. Never been a fan of Duffey. If he can't get guys to chase his curveball he has to throw his batting practice fastball. As history indicates, Rocco will run him out there again and we'll see it until Duffey proves he can do it or not. I'm guessing it will be NOT. Alcala should have been groomed for the role last September but Rocco doesn't have the managerial skill to think ahead even in a lost season with nothing else to play for. Let's see how many different lineups he can conjure up in the first month of the season instead of setting a starting lineup and using it everyday. Nothing kills a hitter more than not getting repetitive at bats and consistant playing time to get and keep your timing at the plate. This should have been done in all of spring training instead of giving at bats to guys like Jake Cave. Let's face it, Rocco is a poor manager.

How Long of Leash Will Chris Archer Get?
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Which one of the five starters is is a sure thing? ZERO. None are Maeda or Berrios. Gray is the closest and he is 5 years removed from a decent season. Don't forget to add him to the list of possible disappointments along with Bundy and Archer. That leaves Ryan and Ober who have no proven track record. It is very possible that none of the five will be what the Twins need or are hoping for.- 39 replies

Who Could Still Make the 40 Man Roster?
rv78 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The correct move would have been to move Kirolloff to 1B, Sano to DH and keep Larnach up here for LF. Gordon has proven to be an effective backup in the Outfield, even center field, as well as the Infield. Garlick can be a righty option to platoon with Kepler. There is NO reason why they need to keep Cave at the major league level or even in the minors. He doesn't bring anything to the team that they don't already have covered. Please get rid of the guy. He must have some dirt on Rocco that keeps him around.- 63 replies

Every year I wonder why they play spring training games. If a young player (Larnach) has a good spring you still get sent down. It's not like the Twins can't use him on a regular basis in Left Field so he would get his at bats and not be sitting on the bench. Play Kirilloff at first, Put Sano at DH and run with it. Arraez and Urshela can split time at 3B. Sanchez can platoon at DH with Sano and catch every 3rd or 4th day. Gordon fills a bench spot for Infield and Outfield. Dump/Cut at least 2 of Cave, Rooker, and Garlick. No way any of those 3 should get a spot over Larnach.

I almost busted a gut reading this.... "Swapping out Mitch Garver and Josh Donaldson for Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela is probably a net negative." Probably? I don't think there is any "Probably" to consider. It is safe to say it IS a negative. I would give the FO a "D" for their efforts. Resigning Buxton and getting Correa were the only 2 moves that had any significance towards improving the team over last year and one can argue resigning Buxton isn't improving the team since he was already here. Meanwhile they lost Garver, Donaldson, Rortvedt, Berrios, and Pineda. Maeda will be lucky to be back before the end of the season. Gray won't be better than Berrios, Bundy won't be better than Pineda. Will Ober or Ryan replace Maeda? I doubt Archer will. The bullpen didn't add any quality arms unless you count washed up guys like Jharel Cotton and Joe Smith. Maybe Duran, Moran, Winder, Romero will make an impact, but the FO didn't really make those moves this off-season so they don't count. They still have holes in the linup with Sano and Kepler. Now throw in Sanchez on occasion, Urshela isn't Donaldson. They are really relying on Jeffers to start hitting. I think a "D" is more than generous. One question, where did they improve the team other than Shortstop? And at what cost?

Organizing Minnesota’s Bullpen Pecking Order
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agree with Dave. Rocco has shown in the past his inability to manage his pitchers effectively, aka staying with Colome too long last year, then using him again at the end of the year instead of trying to find the teams future closer, aka Alcala. This year the effective usage of the bullpen will only be compounded by the fact the rotation is still a work in progress and he will have to rely on the bullpen even more. Don't care what the experts say, this pitching staff has a TON of question marks going into the season. Sonny Gray is no Jose Berrios, Chris Archer is 5 years removed from a decent season, do I smell another Shoemaker here? Bundy is also 5 years removed from being an effective starter. Ober and Ryan are young guns that look promising but will be hard pressed to pitch 150+ innings. If no more moves are made to help the rotation there will need to be a revolving door for the entire pitching staff cause the bullpen will be over-worked and Rocco will mismanage it for sure.- 29 replies

Josh Winder Shouldn't Make the Opening Day Rotation
rv78 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"They’d likely be better off mixing and matching with arms they know everything about than a rookie pitcher who hasn’t shown he’s quite MLB ready yet." Only way to find out is to give him the chance. And why is piecing together has-beens that they know are short term fixes because of their lack of acquiring good arms in the first place, better?- 48 replies

Correa Gives Twins a Best in Baseball
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Considering the opt-out clauses, Correa is the one in control. If the Twins don't make a couple more significant moves to improve the team for this season Correa's presence won't make a difference and he'll be gone either at the trade deadline or he'll leave at the end of season 1. Now there is even more pressure on Falvine to bring in the rest of the pieces needed to win.- 21 replies

Breaking Down the Twins Signing Carlos Correa
rv78 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
UNBELIEVABLE! I am still trying to pick myself up off the floor. This will only make sense when tomorrow we here that they traded him away for Sanchez and Urshela Clones. Ok FO, time to finish the picture and get 1, hopefully 2 quality starters to fill out the rotation and make this Correa signing worthwhile, otherwise it won't put you over the hump. -
Gary Sanchez is Not a Miguel Sano Clone
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wish both players were on a different team. Bad enough to have 1 creating a hole in the lineup now we have another. 2 big trades and this team has gotten significantly worse. I can hardly wait to see what they do next. -

What to Expect From New Twins Catcher José Godoy
rv78 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rortvedt hasn't been a big bat for the Twins but now that he's a Yankee I'd be willing to bet he'll find it. We all know why the trade was made. the Twins value money over talent and their desire to unload the big Donaldson contract cost them talent. Pure, plain and simple.... money over talent. I's not hard to read between the lines. -

He should have stated that they were the two best "full-time" righthanded hitters. Part-time players usually aren't included in discussions. Knowing the Twins way they will opt for Pathway #4.- 37 replies

The Twins hang on to under-performers way too long. Thorpe is one of them. Instead of giving the next player on the depth chart a chance they'll go with Thorpe, He'll perform average at best and the guy who should have gotten a chance to pitch in his spot will spend the year in AAA ball racking up good numbers. At some point all AAA players who don't get the call have to wonder why they aren't considered good enough to get the call, especially when the player they could replace isn't performing well.

Can Change-of-Scenery Help Sanchez?
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It appears this FO likes guys that can hit .199 or less and 30 HR's while ignoring their lack of defensive capabilities. They have taken what was probably the best catching situation of most teams in all of baseball and made it a question mark.- 52 replies
