  1. For what it's worth Big Mike threw 96 pitches, not 80-85. Even so, he's BIG and he's been around for a while. There's no reason why he couldn't throw 110 pitches or more. Unless he told Rocco he was tiring, the option to leave him out there or go to the bullpen which has imploded almost every game would give me reason to let him throw until his arm falls off. We all know that happens now-a-days once a pitcher reaches the magical number of 100 pitches or more. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Right now one would have to question Rocco's sanity with his every move to quick hook a starter and go to the bullpen. With the current state of the bullpen I'd be letting the pitchers go 8 or 9 innings everytime out if they aren't imploding like the bullpen.
  2. Given the current state of play there isn't anyone on the roster I wouldn't consider trading. Unfortunately many of the players we should trade won't bring a bag of peanuts in return. Even Buxton would be discounted because he's made of glass. Berrios is the best option for a good return with Maeda and Pineda not far behind. The rest of the Pitchers have done nothing to prove they are worth keeping or getting anything in return. Looking at the core of veteran Hitters you could argue almost everyone has some underlying issue that just doesn't make them look very attractive to other teams. Garver, Sano, Kepler can't hit. Polanco and Arraez are liabilities on the field. Simmons is only here 1 year. Donaldson has a monster contract that no one else would want. Buxton is only a part-time player. Cruz is slowing down. As for Cave, Astudillo, Garlick, and the other bench types, they are a dime a dozen that you can get anywhere.
  3. I hear Costco and Walmart are having bag specials. Buy 1 paper bag for your head and they'll throw in a plastic bag for you to hurl into when the game is over.
  4. For a team struggling to score runs (most times) why don't they try to manufacture runs? Ya know, bunt, hit&run, hit the ball to the open side of a shift? Lots of opportunities there that they hardly ever, if never try. The lineup is Pull happy, Homerun happy, from top to bottom outside of Arraez. They are too one dimensional. When an opposing pitcher knows you want to pull the ball into the seats on every swing he's already 1 step ahead of you.
  5. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes. (Where's the Rally Squirrel when you need him?)
  6. Any of the 4 would be ok at this point. First 3 players I'd trade would be Sano, Kepler and Cave. None of them will be missed. You won't get much for any of them by themselves but if you package all 3 together you might get 1 good relief pitcher. Keep Kirilloff at 1B, bring up Larnach and Celestino to replace the other 2 and I guarantee you don't lose much of anything defensively or offensively. When you stop and look at all 3 players it's scary to beleive that Cave actually has the best career batting average of the 3.
  7. Not only is it worth repeating but it should be taped to Rocco's forehead. For someone to use numbers to make decisions like he supposedly does, I just can't understand why you ignore them when they are.so glaringly bad. And for those who said he didn't have any other options, how about leaving Duffey in? Was he gassed? He only threw 10 pitches Monday. If Alcala isn't any good against lefties then let Duffey pitch to them and then use Alcala after that. Rogers should not have been an option.
  8. Trading a prospect or two is going to be really costly this time of year. Sign Greene, DFA Colome and put that in the "Don't make moves like Terry Ryan Hope and a Prayer" file. When you have a pitcher that you can't use there is no point in having him on the roster. Shoemaker fits in that file as well. Why does this team always think they can slide by with remakes, projects and has-beens? I saw 2 people sitting in the stands behind homeplate in last nights game. If they think they are going to get more people to come watch these guys than that, the way this bullpen is and the way they are playing they better think again. It's sad to be wishing for more Dobnak, Smeltzer, maybe Law but there aren't any other options.
  9. Most of this has been covered but my 2 cents worth is The FO has the bullpen they wanted. They sat on their hands through the off-season not making a move until they had nothing but leftovers to pick from. Really, who didn't see this coming? And Balldelli doesn't know how to manage. If he follows the analytics they tell everyone that you don't use Rogers 2 games in a row or even 2 innings at a time. Why do you ignore that fact? Then you go to a AAA pitcher in the 10th inning? Really? Why do you trust him over Alcala? Also, how is it they only get 3 hits off of Kyle Gibson? Cruz looked terrible. Donaldson who lit up Gibson when he pitched for the Twins went 0-fer. Still don't know why Cave is on the team. Kepler isn't far behind that same question. This team stunk again and it's going to be a long season. Get ready to stick a fork in 'em. They don't have any answers for the problems they have.
  10. When Simmons's throw bounced under Kirilloff's glove, I thought, "Herbie would have got that." So would Justin Morneau, or Mauer. Yikes, you are being pretty hard on an outfielder who's only played a handful of games at 1B in the major leagues. I watched most of the game and Kirilloff made 3 scoops on throws from Donaldson, Simmons and Polanco. I thought he looked really good defensively and so far I like the offense we are finally getting from 1st base. Offense, yeah, that's something we have not seen from that position on a regular basis since Herbie, Morneau or Mauer.
  11. Aaron and John talk about the Twins up and down week, signs of life from the lineup, the impact of Alex Kirilloff, Byron Buxton's number porn and what to do with Alex Colome. What is, you know what, in this headline suppose to mean?
  12. I agree, todays game will be more meaningful considering they will be facing Danny Duffy. Singer and company still held these guys to 7 hits. Granted there were some hard hit balls for outs but that is par for the course. The 10 walks had more to do with the 9 runs scored than anything, minus Kirolloff's 2 homers, but the flip side is the Twins weren't swinging at a lot of bad pitches if they got 10 walks. The only way you will get something good to hit is if you DON'T swing at bad pitches. I agree with the usage of Duffey, Robles and Alcala. Duff and Robles should be able to pitch again today only going 1 inning and Alcala should be available again tomorrow if needed. When Colome gets used again will be the interesting thing to watch for. Has Rocco learned his lesson yet or will he make the same mistake for the umpteeth time?
  13. Kirilloff is on his way! Send Cave away. Look out Sano, you may be next.
  14. The easiest type of game to Manage is a game like this. You hit the nail on the head.
  15. Someone remind me........... Is this team playing for a playoff spot or the #1 Draft pick?
  16. A lot of comments here about the use of the bullpen are spot on. When your starter has a short outing you should be following him up with your long-relief guy. If that is Dobnak then he should have got brought in next, not Duffey. Then you let Dobnak pitch for as long as he is effectively getting guys out. What does this do? It gives you less innings needed for guys like Duffey, Rogers, Robles and Colome. It makes NO SENSE to only use Dobnak for 10 pitches then have your closer throw 49. So far, Colome has lost 2 games and blown 3 Saves. He is not Closer material for any team. Stop using him as such. If this is analytics at it's finest I am done watching Twins baseball.
  17. When you have players with high expectations that don't perform, the Manager is usually, if not always, held accountable. That's why they get fired. How many Managers get fired when the team isn't expected to win?
  18. If you want to talk about "Lack of Routine" how about using the same lineup every day? The hitting has been atrocious. If I understand correctly Baldelli doesn't require batting practice and it is strictly voluntary. Maybe these guys need to spend more time doing that. Maybe they should learn to hit the ball to the opposite field. Maybe some, if not all of them should learn how to bunt, or slap the ball to the open spot of the infield when the shift is on. Hitting homers is great but winning games by other means makes you better. That is clearly lacking. I don't think we have to worry about this team not winning any playoff games this year, they won't make the playoffs with this pathetic offense. When I saw Sano's picture in this article I thought it was going to name 3 players as the "Biggest Problems" him being one of them. It's not hard to name 2 more, take your pick of a dozen.
  19. Players the Twins wouldn't miss...... CAVE, DOBNAK, COLOME, SANO and 1 former player..... BALDELLI. Looks like they found the new closer.... LaTortuga.
  20. Given the way the Twins handle almost all of their young and upcoming players Jeffers is lucky to be playing at the majors in any capacity at this point in his career.
  21. Unfortunately, you can lose your chance to make the playoffs in April just as much as in September. ALL the games count.
  22. Listened to the pre-game show on the radio and Corey Provus was interviewing Rocco. When asked about the hitting so far this season Rocco said the team is hitting the ball very well and he was pleased with it so far. Evidently his expectations aren't very high or he isn't watching the same team as the rest of us. FYI, the Wild scored 5 goals today in 1 hockey game ...... how many runs did the Twins score in 2 games? (Yeah, I know they were only 7 innings but you get my point).
  23. Exactly what I was thinking. The offense has gone south ever since he left.
  24. I really don't understand how Blocko sets a lineup. Why do you put Garver, Polanco and Sano at the heart of your lineup when they aren't hitting and you put 3 of your hottest hitters of Arraez, Astudillo and Simmons in the 6, 7 and 8 spots? Makes no sense to me. I think they have played 10 games and there's been 9 different lineups used. Kinda looks like he doesn't know who should bat where. Poor Managing!
  25. Have to hang this loss on the Manager. Blocko pulls Pineda after 75 pitches on Saturday but lets Shoemaker go to 91 pitches even though he clearly ran out of gas starting the 6th inning. No way does a GOOD Manager let him pitch to a 3rd batter in that inning.
