  1. "He could slot in as Baldelli’s everyday third basemen." That'll never happen. Baldelli doesn't know how to play someone everyday. "Sano being the primary designated hitter also reduces the lineup flexibility for Baldelli on a nightly basis." This would be a good thing. The good players need to be playing everyday. Reducing Baldelli's ability to put his scrubs like Cave and Astudillo into the lineup makes the team better. Unfortunately for 2022 this team won't change much on the field except when Baldelli sets his lineup which happens daily. If everyone stays healthy: Garver needs to get 120+ games at Catcher with Jeffers or Rortvedt getting the other 40. Sano will be the everyday 1B unless traded. Polanco is a no brainer at 2B. 150-160 games please. A new SS. Arraez at 3B, again 150-160 games. Miranda in LF, Buck in CF, Kirilloff in RF. Donaldson the everyday DH. Gordon in a utility role. Kepler to the bench. 2 new bench players please to replace Cave and the Turtle. They aren't helping this team.
  2. Where do we start? I find the offense offensive. 15 K's and 18 LOB yesterday. When will they quit swinging at balls off the plate? When will they quit swinging for the fences? When will the manager settle on a permanent lineup and play it everyday? Too much dead weight for this team to make a serious run at anything but mediocrity. Kepler, Sano, Rooker, Cave, Jeffers, Astudillo, can't hit. Donaldson is all but washed up. They have three 2nd basemen in Arraez, Polanco, and Gordon. No shortstop going into next year. Buxton and Garver who only play part-time. Polanco might get to 600 AB's this year. He's the only starter that even came close to playing full-time. Without wholesale changes the 2022 Team is destined for small victories, maybe 2 a week.
  3. ""Furthermore, it’s fair to wonder whether the inconsistent playing time is partially to blame for Brent Rooker’s hot and cold streaks. For a player who has so much swing and miss with such little plate discipline, consistent reps may be keeping him from unlocking his full potential."" With Baldelli at the helm, this will never change. Rocco thinks the most important job he has is changing his lineup every day.
  4. The main argument made in this article is that Pineda has become injury prone thus the Twins should not resign him. Use your crystal ball and tell me what pitcher they currently have or will sign that isn't going to have an injury. They could sign a top free agent pitcher for next season that has never been injured and the guy could blow his arm out the first game he pitches for the Twins. There are no guarantees. The current rotation stacks up as Ober, Jax, Ryan, and a combination of Pineda, Dobnak, Gant and any other arm that is still attached to someone's body. If this is the plan for 2022 and to take a look at Balazovic, Duran, Winder, during the 2022 season then they are looking to 2023 and beyond, which means there won't be any big moves this off-season but more of the same dumpster diving for live arms to patch a rotation for the season. The guys like Smeltzer, Thorpe, Albers, Barraclough have no value going forward. They need to stop looking back for old arms that aren't worth anything and start looking forward to the young talent they have.
  5. Simmons has a .221 batting average, was brought in for defensive purposes and has been able to play almost everyday. Kepler at .207 and Cave at .193 both with injuries that hurt the Twins, would have to be ranked higher than Simmons. Astudillo out hits them all with his blistering .249 average and ability to play multiple positions, although none of them exceptionally well. I'm willing to give the new guys a pass for now but not the 2 veterans listed above. Sano is not far behind.
  6. "The Twins shouldn't spend much on starting pitching this offseason". Are you sure you didn't mean to say, the Twins won't spend much on starting pitching this offseason?
  7. In spring training, most of the time those rookie pitchers are going to be pitching against rookie hitters. If you want to get a real feel for how they will do against major league talent you bring them up as September call ups. You've already been able to see what they are doing against other minor leaguers. If he get's his butt handed to him now then you know what you got, Right? I would suspect they know what they got with guys like Albers who's 35 years old. Might as well bring back Matt Shoemaker, Matt Capps and Bartolo Colon if you just want to eat innings with washed up pitchers and not learn anything about your future.
  8. Albers proved once again why you do not take on reclaimation projects. For as good as he was last outing he was just as terrible this time out. As for taking one for the team, if that was Baldelli's intentions he should be fired immediately. They had an off day on Thursday and he only used Garza out of the pen on Friday with only 8 pitches thrown. His entire bullpen including Garza should have been available to use. What is the point of using worthless pitchers that have no future with this club? Where are the other up and coming prospect pitchers we need to be taking a look at besides Joe Ryan? I get it that this season is over, but we should be evaluating all of the close prospect pitchers in the organization now, not using has-beens and washed up players that won't be a part of the future of this team. I don't understand this organization and their unwillingness to move on and away from worthless players.
  9. Not a Dobnak fan but I'll admit he pitched well after the 3rd inning. If we are going to blame Sano (defense) for a run then keep in mind that both Buxton and Kepler took hits away on great catches (defense) in the outfield or the score and Dob's performance might have been worse. Sorry, I just can't get excited about him pitching. He reminds me of any "flash in the pan" player who gets lucky with a few good games, then goes on to be an average to below average player that an organization just can't move on from based on those few games. Jake Cave is another one. Had 2 reasonably decent seasons in 2018 and 2019 as a part-time player and has been worthless ever since. Kepler and Sano aren't far behind. Teams don't win championships with a lot of mediocre players. That's where I put Dobnak and half of the current Twins team.
  10. #1. Ober looks to be a solid addition. #2. Free Agency will only work if you sign quality arms. No more Shoemakers or Happs. If ya don't spend here you might as well forget it. #3. Yes, trade where you have extras. Kepler, Sano, Donaldson, consider Arraez if the return is huge. #4. I'm ok with giving Pineda another year. He shouldn't be expensive and he slots in at #4 or #5 easy enough. #5. Seen enough of the Dobnak experiment. Move on please. #6. For heavens sake what are we waiting for. The pitching was atrocious and none of these guys were worth taking a look at before now? Let's see what we have before they die from old age.
  11. Mauer was paid millions and how many Championships did he bring? ZER0. He brought fans to the park and helped the Pohlads recoup some of the millions they spent, Did he bring in enough to cover his contract? What is the goal? Making money or winning Championships? We can argue the Twins have a better chance of another WS title with Buxton verses without, but if he's always hurt, he becomes a very expensive part-time player that probably isn't going to make a difference in a quest for another ring. Can't recall a Championship team winning it all when their best player/s only play part-time. My biggest gripe about Buxton...... we are at the point of his career where he will become a Free Agent and he really hasn't even played a full season yet. How do you put a value on a player like that?
  12. I keep AK and the rest can walk. They bring nothing extra to the table that you can't find elsewhere. Others on the 40 man that will be gone or are expendable: Albers, Barnes, Barraclough, Colome, Coulombe, Duffey, Farrell, Gant, Garcia, Law, Minaya, Thorpe, Simmons, and Cave, That's 19 spots. Move on, move up, not sideways.
  13. I agree with Rosterman, It's not complicated. Pencil in Miranda at 3B. Donaldson to DH. Let Polanco, Simmons and Arraez shuffle duty at 2B and SS. Bigger question happens next year when you need to replace Simmons. Do you put Polanco back at SS so Arraez can play 2B full-time? Really think Arraez would make a really good 3Bman, I hate to say it but if Miranda is the man then Arraez may be the odd man out and could be good trade bait for a good arm for the rotation or the bullpen. With Austin Martin on the verge and Royce Lewis not far behind SS should be covered going forward. Hopefully Martin can jump in for 2022 if they don't end up moving Polanco back there.
  14. Putting the word "Legend" with Jake Cave isn't appropriate and makes me want to hurl chunks. He's the type of player that could leave anytime, (as proven by his missed playing time this year due to injury) and the team he'd be playing for wouldn't miss him.
  15. Had hoped he would continue his early tear and be the next big bat in the lineup. One thing I also noticed is that he is pretty much a dead pull hitter. Hope someone told him he should use his, now time in AAA, to also learn to hit to all fields. A single to left field is much more valuable than hitting a ground ball to the 2nd baseman who is playing in short right field.
  16. If this organization doesn't start developing #1 and #2 starters then all the #3, #4, #5 starters in the world won't make a difference unless the only goal is to close out a losing season like this one. It doesn't really matter if you have 3 of these guys or a whole stable full of them. They won't take you to the next level no matter how many of them you have.
  17. My first inclination is we've seen enough of Burrows already. Replace him now with Garza and see what he has. I don't understand why a guy who's already been in AAA, even if for another club needs to go to your own AAA. If he's good enough to go after, and the big league team needs arms, and he's proven himself in AAA already, then just promote him and see what he can do. It's not like he's going to hurt the chances for this team anymore this year. It seems this organization is more concerned about their minor league teams than the major league team.
  18. All 4 guys are not contributing much now. Losing all 4 wouldn't make much difference right now. You might get a good return for Buck. A small return for Rogers and Kepler and you'd lose dollars trading Donaldson. If Buck doesn't want to stay, which it clearly looks like, then you have to go the same route with him as you did with Berrios. Keeping players that don't want to be part of the team don't help team chemistry. They need to go. I'm all for a youth movement. It's been 30 years since the last Championship and the current veterans on the field now will never get there without a major influx of talent.
  19. Agree with most of this article. I would add a couple things. 1. The front office needs to do a better job of evaluating talent. Biggest questionmark is keeping a hopeless/hapless Jake Cave over a Akil Baddoo. Baddoo hitting .275 for the Tigers would be the best hitting outfielder on the Twins roster with Buxton on the sidelines. As highly touted as Baddoo was, how can anyone let him slip away in the rule 5 while holding onto to Jake Cave who has gotten worse every year since he started his career in 2018. 2. Waiting until the end of Free Agency to sign players, particularly Pitchers that you NEED is not a winning formula. If Terry Ryan taught this organization anything is that you can't go Dumpster Diving and have it make a difference. If the Pohlads say that the checkbook is open and Falvine can't get the best talent available signed then they are NOT doing their job. Start getting players in their prime instead of signing good veterans on the verge of the end of their careers hoping they still got it isn't a recipe for success. There aren't that many Nelson Cruz's out there. Quit expecting every older FA you sign to be like him. It isn't going to happen.
  20. I trade any veteran on this roster if they bring a great return. Kepler included. Hard to get excited about a career .236 hitter just because he can cover CF in a pinch.
  21. Time is ripe to trade Berrios. If he won't sign an extension there is no point hanging onto him for 2022. This team is not going to turn into a contender that fast unless they change their approach in the Free Agent market this winter and I doubt that will happen since they are perrenial dumpster divers in that aspect. Look for the best load of talent you can get in return for him and start to rebuild or retool. The current roster isn't going anywhere.
  22. In this instance if Arraez isn't ready to go when the batter is, then he needs a scolding. With Donaldson being the batter and the veteran player and with another veteran and a team leader Cruz by his side, then I see nothing wrong with it and actually applaud Donaldson and Cruz for doing it. The so-called Manager of this team has led this uninspired lack of readiness play to one of the most disappointing seasons in Twins history. Just another sign he doesn't have his players heads in the game. Blame the Manager.
  23. Most need is at Pitching. Take Williams and back that pick up with more Pitchers please.
  24. Donaldson is quickly becoming DH only material and that will change too when he no longer can run around the bases due to his leg problems. Any reasonable offer should be jumped at. We have Arraez and Sano who can handle 3rd base until the call is made to make Miranda the permanent fixture there. I'd like to see that move before the end of this season. Had we not lost Cave, Buxton, Kepler, and so on, in the outfield they wouldn't have brought up Larnach when they did and he has done nothing to disappoint. Clearly a much better hitter than Cave or Kepler. Why does this organization let their young players like Larnach stagnate in the minors unless an emergency forces them to use 'em? You could say the same thing for Jeffers last year. With Arraez and Sano able to play 3rd it opens the door for Kirilloff to play 1st and a trade of Donaldson easy peasy lemon squeezy.
  25. Rogers gets it. Everyone is expendable for the right return. Getting what you need in return is the tricky part.
