Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Twins: SP Kevin Correia Not released yet... Gardy is cooking up a real good one tonight. A's: SP Dan Straily CF Crisp3B DonaldsonSS LowrieLF MossRF ReddickDH SmithC Vogt1B Barton2B Sogard Things to Think About: 1. The Oakland A's... Much at stake for the Green and Gold... 5 Game lead over the Rangers with 10 games left on the A's Schedule. Half game lead over the Tigers for the 2nd best record in the A.L. and an extra home game during the 1st round. The Twins can experiment if need be... The A's can't... The Eye Black has to be on! 2. Dan Straily... This young starting pitcher can be tattooed and he can be lights out. He came out of nowhere as a prospect but he got himself some MLB mound time by being a prolific swing and miss guy in the minors. A pitcher who can strike guys out isn't ideal for a Twins team that strikes out a lot. 3. Kevin Corriea... In my opinion... The A's are a momentum team... When they start rolling they roll... Kevin is gonna have to do his best to keep the mo contained... Bottled up... 4. 1,000 Wins... 3 to go... 11 Games left. Gardy needs to win 3 games to reach quadruple digits. This may go down to the wire. I don't know if anyone else cares... But I find myself really really really caring. I want Gardy to get that number this year!!! 5. Hotels... The big hotels with multiple floors... They don't have a 13th floor... Get in the elevator and it goes... 10... 11... 12... 14... I'm not buying it... I refuse to stay on the 14th floor... I subtract the missing floor because it's obvious that they are trying to fool me that I'm not on 13. I simply won't let them take advantage of me like that... If I'm staying in room 2012... I tell myself it's really Room 1912... Technically I'm right... As a result... One time... I was pissed when my key wouldn't work in the actual room 1912 when I tried to enter it by mistake... The couple in that room were also pissed that I tried to open their door. Come to think of it... Hotel Security was also a little miffed that he had to actually do something after he was called by the couple. My explanation of the 13th floor thing and my twisted mind didn't seem to make any of them feel better. One more thought on the subject... If Hotels don't have a 13th floor... How come book publishers have no problem with Chapter 11's.
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Another excellent setup by Brian. I hope that people appreciate the hard work that Brian does to set the stage for every game. I especially liked #5 tonight.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 There is a floor 13 in my building. When I asked my realtor about floor 13s she said that some people actually request to be on 13. Guess there's a place for everyone!

glunn Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Hopefully Gardy's unlucky number isn't 3. I need 4 more wins to collect on my Vegas bet, and am not feeling lucky.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I need 4 more wins to collect on my Vegas bet, and am not feeling lucky. Why? You think they'll get 5 or more?

It's pretty rare for them to be way off.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I'm at work (concert night) ... so I don't count.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I'm at work (concert night) ... so I don't count. How do you keep time to the music?
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 No taking yourself in the pool! Those are the best bets... I was driving with my Son home from somewhere. The Garmin said we'd get home at 2:45. My son makes the comment that we always arrive 4 minutes before the Garmin predicts. I had noticed that myself but I felt like having some fun... So I said... I'll bet you 5 bucks the Garmin is exactly right... It will be 2:45 when we pull in the driveway. He took the bet... Foolishly of course... Because I was driving and there was no stipulation on speed of travel or weather we move forward at all. As we got closer... It started to look like he was right... So I started driving 10 MPH while he yelled DAD!!! Come On!!! It was a good lesson to learn and I got 5 dollars that I'd given him back.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 How do you keep time to the music? heh ... I don't, really. But it's kind of fun to be listening to Brahms 2, live, with the Twins game on in the background. Gives new meaning to cross-culture.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 So I started driving 10 MPH That was really underhanded. He thought he was betting against you. Not against Chief.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 But it's kind of fun to be listening to Brahms 2, live, As nasty as he wanna be? / speaking of cross-culture / i'll buy chief a drink when I'm in Phoenix if he can place the cultural reference there

Willihammer Provisional Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 How do you keep time to the music? Pretty easily but if you struggle just get yourself a metrodome
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I was driving with my Son home from somewhere. The Garmin said we'd get home at 2:45. You couldn't find a strip club that stayed open later?

glunn Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Why? You think they'll get 5 or more? I made a Vegas bet before the season started. If the Twins win 68 then the bet is a tie and I get my money back If the Twins win more than 68 then I get my money back plus more. At this point, I would be glad to get just the 68, mainly because this would provide an excuse to go to Vegas,
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I was a big fan of Brahms 2 Live Crew. Had all their 8 tracks. Very good. I owe you that drink. Bear in mind Brian's anecdote above though; I just learned that a road trip to the AFL this year is suddenly pretty unlikely for me.

It'll be a good lesson to learn.
