Alright, now someone check on the lowest active qualified team leader since 1900 and see where .245 would rank? I'm thinking pretty near the bottom of all time. Alsom I'm not sure if Mauer sits the rest of the year he has the at-bats to qualify even. Would be close.]

The number is something like 500 PA so Mauer would qualify.

Not only that, but there is a technicality that allows you to lead the team (and even the league) without actually having the PA's to qualify.

You simply take an 0-for as many PA's as you need to qualify.

For example, you are 145-400 and have 484 PA's, giving you a .363 BA. But, you are 18 PA's short of qualifying. So, you simply are given an 0-18, which puts you at 145-418 for an AVG of .347.

I think (not sure though) that a couple of players have won the batting title this way, but I think it's been a long time since it's happened.

Wasn't that an issue with Melky Cabrera last year? He came short (maybe by a couple)on PA but hit .346 to Posey's .336. Posey won the batting championship.

Did Melky's alleged PED use factor into this?

From 1967 to the present, if the player with the highest average in a league fails to meet the minimum plate-appearance requirement, the remaining at-bats until qualification (e.g., 5 ABs, if the player finished the season with 497 plate appearances) are hypothetically considered hitless at-bats; if his recalculated batting average still tops the league, he is awarded the title. This is officially called Rule 10.22(a), but it is also known as the Tony Gwynn rule because the Padres' legend won the batting crown in 1996 with a .353 average on just 498 plate appearances (i.e., was four shy). Gwynn was awarded the title since he would have led the league even if he'd gone 0-for-4 in those missing plate appearances. His average would have dropped to .349, five points better than second-place Ellis Burks' .344.[8] In 2012, a one-time amendment to the rule was made to disqualify Melky Cabrera from the title. Cabrera requested that he be disqualified after serving a suspension that season for a positive testosterone test. He had batted .346 with 501 plate appearances, and the original rule would have awarded him the title over San Francisco Giants teammate Buster Posey, who won batting .336.[9][10]

Um, OK. I like Melky again.
