IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 There's no redemption for the game threaders. Yeah, I know, but I guess I'm just one of those guys who likes knocking his head against a wall just for the fun of it. Kind of like being a Twins fan.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 There's no redemption for the game threaders. Will there be redemption for Deduno's allegedly dead arm today?
snepp Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Will there be redemption for Deduno's allegedly dead arm today? Blasphemer!
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Will there be redemption for Deduno's allegedly dead arm today? Now you've jinxed it for sure.

IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 You gotta be kidding me! 1st & 2nd, no out, and they get nothing? What, do they work on this in practice - how to hit for futility when it really counts?

glunn Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Good morning all. I am glad that I missed last night's game. The movie "Blue Jasmine" was depressing, but not as depressing as last night's game.

ashbury Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 You gotta be kidding me! 1st & 2nd, no out, and they get nothing? It happens. / With this team.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 It happens. / With this team. Yeah, I know. I shouldn't be surprised. Sunday afternoons I'm usually pretty tired after work, so I'm more vulnerable - don't have my defenses up.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 OK. Runner on 3rd, nobody out. Just dying to see how they manage to get out of this without scoring.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 What, do they work on this in practice - how to hit for futility when it really counts? But to respond seriously: considering that the 2012 Twins offense was second lowest in Ks, and in 2013 they are second highest, the natural assumption is that Tom Brunansky has instilled in his pupils the attitude that strikeouts don't matter that much. If you look at the teams leading in strikeouts at bat, futile offenses of Houston and Minnesota are at the top, but the next three are pretty potent. Hitting for power leads to runs, and also to strikeouts, so there is something to this approach. However, it can also lead to innings like this one.
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Maybe we need to focus more on the reverse standings?
kydoty Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 They really need to re-evaluate how they hand out errors in Major League Baseball. Between Viciedo, Beckham and Konerko, Viciedo is the last one that should've received an error on that play, but it by default goes to him.

IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 One'a them fire'n'brimstone guys, eh? Actually, no, quite the opposite. But I still put all my energy and passion into it - which is draining.

ashbury Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 It was supposed to be a day off tomorrow. I'd have said get Deduno out of there, put in your long reliever (Swarzak presumably) and think about whether to DL Samuel or what. But the Mets makeup game probably means Samuel has to gut it out a while longer.

ashbury Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Maybe we need to focus more on the reverse standings? It's something to look at, but I'm not personally a fan of teams tanking, like they do in the lesser sports, somewhat in the NFL and quite openly in the NBA. Nor of rooting for that as an effect.
