OL should be something you draft and develop.  

For the first 40 years of this franchise this team seemed to draft HOF OL at will. They almost always had at least one on the team, if not two. Not to mention all the All Pro and Pro Bowl players. Since Spielman took over, it's been an absolute nightmare. And obviously we're on GM three now so it's not JUST Spielman.

Yeah, how are they over-estimating their own 'talent'? Pretty much every team already has a Brosmer. And I doubt EVERY team was uninterested in dropping their version for Brosmer in favor of taking a shot on McCarthy, so my guess is they were/are holding out for draft pick compensation that's unreasonable.

It has been awhile, but I think our primary mistake has been in coaching.  Many teams cultivate great offensive linemen from mid round picks by identifying good schematic fits and coaching them up to use their strengths.  The Chiefs, Eagles, Seahawks, Packers, Cowboys, and a few others have mined pro-bowl (or near pro bowl) level contributors out of 3rd/4th/5th round picks.

Our similar efforts have resulted in Walter Rouse and similar duds.
