You are saying this from your couch after the play, during the play you have a teammate telling you to throw to third, regardless of your pre pitch prep, you are probably going to where your teammate tells there is a play.

It’s not “from my couch”. That’s baseball 101 taught from a young age. Lee shouldn’t have called but he shouldn’t have thrown. I complimented KC on his defense earlier in the game but that wasn’t the right play.

its on Lee  ---  either way --  he catches it -great play - he goes for the tag b4 the ball is in his glove  which he did , and its a error--    K.C  is acquitted by this jury of 1

we almost fooled em ,  ya i know the Owner vetoed it .    wish we had a bright ownership !!!!!

I have to admit, I don't want ownership making decisions on personnel unless it is budget related.  They typically have no baseball knowledge or how to evaluate players.  I don't necessarily agree with what the Astros owner did.  If he doesn't trust his baseball staff then he should probably bring in new people which is what I hope Tom P. does.

My understanding is he didn't want to move Abreu, but if that is the reason I am not sure.

also said that because his team still had a good chance that moving players was a bad sign in a pennant race and the Players all  agreed with him ,  He came right out and addressed it   which the Twins never do

Well, in this case, it's easier for the Astros to talk about it since they vetoed the trade. Shelton seemed to have handled it privately with Larnach, which is about all you can hope for.

Take Buxton out now!!!  He's still hurt.  He's disengaged.  They play better without him.  Sorry to say it, but right now he's bad for chemistry.  Larnach is trending in that direction too.  For goodness sake bring Jenkins up!

Yet another pathetic effort, wasting a heroic one.  So many chances to add on, and everybody knew we were gonna need it.  Cripe, Morris doing his best Eric Orze-Justin Topa impersonation, and insult to injury, key hit by Ty France, of all people, who truly sucked during his time in the TC.

P-p-p-playoffs?  Cue Jim Mora.

Re:  KC throwing to 3rd--

To quote the immortal movie "Major League":  "Nice catch Hayes...."  And you know the rest.

There really wasn’t a reason to throw to third though. So he’s on third with 2 outs if you throw to first. So what? He can’t score on a sacrifice fly. Yes he can score on a wild pitch/PB but I’ll take that chance. You take the out at first in that situation 10/10 times especially with the difficulty of the play at third. Not that it mattered but that’s how I saw it

A winning shortstop makes that throw to third base every time, no question. Culpepper fielded the ball and calmly made a perfect throw to nail the runner at third base by several feet. Stuff happens. In this case Brooks Lee did not catch the ball. On a throw to first base, the first baseman can simply not catch the ball too. It happens. Rare, but it happens. A team lost the other night on a dropped fly ball which would have been the final out of the game.

Why throw to third base? You make the play when it is an out that under normal circumstances creates the out. That instance was as normal as that play gets. The out at third base means a slow runner (Machado) can only score from first base on a triple or home run. It is pretty basic baseball. If there was any doubt whatsoever, the throw goes to first base. In this case, there was no doubt. Culpepper should be lauded for making the play so smoothly. I can guarantee the clubhouse/ coaching staff sees it that way.

The comments on Andrew Morris must be from those reading about the game and not from anyone who watched the game. Morris ran into some bad luck with mistakes by Jeffers and Lee. The Padres also had some good luck on two balls hit just fair on late swings. The Padres play excellent defense all the time and the Twins are still looking for defenders at several positions. If fans expect three strike outs per game from the one inning relievers, they are in for disappointment. Maybe the Twins can trade for Mason Miller. In the meantime, Morris is a good pitcher.

How do you know Buxton is hurt? Did you see his sprint around the bases the other night, didn't look disengaged to me.  Yes he has to start hitting but we are a better team with him.

So you’re saying that play at third base has an equal or better chance of being made than the one at first? I’m sorry sir I do not agree. Go back and watch it. It’s hit right at KC and machado is slow. You’re asking brooks lee to run to the base, turn around and get the tag down as the runner is bearing down. Even if the throw is caught, it’s going to be a close play. Whether he called for it or not is irrelevant.

The play was at first. That’s all there is to it. Not worth the risk. And you see why, judging by what happened. With nobody out it’s worth it, with one out it’s not. Basic baseball. Why is it basic? Because at worst, you don’t have multiple guys on base with 1 out. Worst case we end the inning with a tie game instead of being down 2 runs.

Twins finally improved their BP this deadline but SD, IMO, has the best. Twins are finally concerned about defense but still need work. The game was a heart break but not surprising, considering the conditions.

To change the topic a little. Baldelli liked to go to his short relief early, Shelton likes to stick with his rotation longer. Who's wrong? IMO, they're both wrong. I'm not crazy how either use their BP.

Many didn't give CWS much of a chance to get out the basement this season. I really liked what they have done & expected them to do much better than many expected. One thing I really like is that they put their promising pitching in the BP instead of wasting their bullets in AAA. CWS's BP was expected to be one of their greatest weakness but they turned them around to be one the better BP in MLB.

Johann Santana started out in the BP & became the most elite SP of his time. I don't buy the philosophy that if you put someone in the BP, you lose him as a SP. IMO,the best way to get our SPs feet wet in the MLB is put them in the BP. To keep both the rotation & short relief fresh & healthy, you need a heavy dose of long relief & spot starts from our young SPs. I'd like the Twins start doing this, IMO, they'd be pleasantly surprised.
