Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Huzzah! Congrats to the Mauers.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 congratulations to Joe and Maddie! (haha - Joe thinks hitting over .350 is hard - and now one day he will be parenting teenagers. I shouldn't laugh. *snicker*)
Vervehound Provisional Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 two kids in one at bat means mauer's slugging percentage in the sack is way higher than at the plate.
Beezer07 Provisional Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Yeah yeah, he got the double, but he didn't drive in any RUNS! Typical Mauer. And congrats!
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 At first glance I thought it said Emily and Marney Mauer. whew.

Vervehound Provisional Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 You've apparently never witnessed the birthing process funny but...ew.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Congrats to them. Had a feeling it might be girls since Joe only has brothers -- just seems to run that way sometimes. (I know Joe has nieces but does he have nephews?)
Kobs Verified Member Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I still find paternity leave ridiculous for professional athletes.
mudcat14 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I still find paternity leave ridiculous for professional athletes. I'm not sentimental, but I couldn't imagine missing the births of my kids. That being said, I don't know how I'd feel if we were active in the post-season right now.
Twins Fan From Afar Verified Member Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I stitll find paternity leave ridiculous for professional athletes. Why? Because they're well compensated? It's not something I would want to miss, no matter how rich or poor I might be.Tying it to income or # of days worked/year cheapens what should really just be a nice few days for any family, imo.

I'd feel exactly the same way, the man deserves his time to be with his wife and new children, playoffs be damned.

JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 The answer is obvious: baseball players and their wives need to figure out a way to ensure that they get pregnant during Spring Training. That way neither conception nor birth is likely to interfere with the season.

zenser Verified Member Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I hope they are doing alright. I heard that they were due August 31. That is pretty early even for twins.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I hope they are doing alright. I heard that they were due August 31. That is pretty early even for twins.Actually, it's not that early for twins. I think on average twins are born at 35 weeks; some make it longer, some don't. I had a friend who had twins a year ago and she made it 36 weeks. Her babies spent a few extra days in the hospital but were otherwise healthy.
ThePuck Provisional Member Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I find it ridiculous that its limited to 3 games. I agree. I was stationed in Germany '04-'06. My wife was back in the states. We had a due date for the birth of my daughter, and I got permissive TDY to go there for 10 days. 3 days is nothing.
zenser Verified Member Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 We are expecting twins and our doctor said 36-38 weeks is normal. Our due date in Nov 8 and we were told to expect them around Oct 16. So being 34 or 35 weeks isnt terribly early but still I would have my concerns.
