Short version they have one player with a core OPS, Buxton. They need 3 more, Wallner is capable of doing that but has not played a full major league season yet. Keaschall is capable of being number 3 core guy. Number 4 would be late in the season Gonzales as he adjusts or Jenkins if he progresses. The real fourth is if they moved Jefferson to 1b full time.  They have players who might be solid players but not have done it consistently, That would be Lewis and Martin.  Then there is the development is not linear but I hope it is not done yet with Lee Julian and Larnach.  The team needs 2 catchers and a backup shortstop and a closer or two. Look for any and every rebound candidate for the closer job to be brought in. If the reliever wants a closer paycheck, they pretty much need to be a closer. The Twins give opportunity.

Keaschal had a good bat for a short time, he is FAR from showing he is going to be a regular; his glove work is, not, major leage level, yet. Hope is he is not another Julien.

All the bruhaha for rookies Jenkins, etc. is the same Pie-in-the-Sky fantasies the are numerous in this site.  Yes Jenkins might be the next Bobby Witt Jr; or one of them might but I would take 1000 to 1 odds against that.

Twins need a full time Short Stop as Lee is NOT good there; move him to Third and hope Lewis is not a beer fart at First  IF he is lousy at First, find a proven Veteran to fill the whole again, with Clemens as a back-up.

Wallner is a poor Right fielder and his bat is now failing him.  Larnach is the better of the two; Martin hopefully he improves, even if he becomes another Rosario, whose bat made the bat happy people happy.

Which position players should be filled by free agents.

1B - Replace Clemens / Fedko and Sabato / Mendez as long shots

2B - Replace Keaschall

3B - Replace Lewis

SS - Replace Lee and block Culpepper

LF - Replace Martin / Roden and Block Jenkins / Rodriguez / Gonzalez / Fedko

CF - Buxton

RF - Replace Wallner and block Roden / Jenkins / Rodrigue / Gonzalez

Blocking has become a monomania around here.

Young players usually get better, although Julien is an example of a young player that has played less well after his rookie year. The experienced players on the roster aren't good enough to compete, so playing young players should be the priority.

Fielding can and should improve. Lewis was far better in 2025 and I think Lee will be better in 2026, although he is limited by his lack of speed and arm. Keaschall missed about a full year of defensive work due to the inury that resulted in TJ surgery. If 2026 is not competitive, it will be the field staff and front office's responsibility to choose the players who can be better in the future and it will be most likely the young guys.

The only free agents I can see being signed are a few relief pitchers in late January or early February.

Relief pitchers, yes! But it drives me crazy that the Twins usually wait until the onset of Spring Training to sign anyone. Why the procrastination year in and year out? And oh yes, I think we still need a legitimate first baseman.

Isn't that a question that is common amongst those of us who follow the offseason? We think the Twins have a plan as most businesses do. Do they though? Maybe we have our evidence from the last several years. The question is nearly unanswerable.

Aaron Sabato was the pick. Since that time the general belief seems to be that anyone can play first base or grab a veteran. Again, it is hard to picture a direction at first base. Is it Clemens or someone like him?

We wait.

I am not the gloom and doom, everyone is horrible person. I am not the one who cannot tell the difference Ben can and is. I am not the one who brought in fielding into points about hitting
