"Whatever it takes."  Wow.  How about Jenkins, Keaschall, Gonzales and Dasan Hill?

Is that what BTV said it would take?

Didn't look at BTV.  I doubt any front office does either.  But that's beside the point.  You said "whatever it takes".  So I must assume you would be happy with this trade.  If not, please write what you actually mean.

1. We will go after a big league hitter in FA/ Trade market.  Not a Joey Gallo type.
2. We will trade Lopez or Ober at the deadline next year.

3. We are going to be very young and lose 95 games next season.
4. KC will be the SS by June ‘25.

5. We will have an inexperienced bullpen but they will get better as the season goes by.

My apologies. I will be more clear. My original thought was the can better compete for bats that will be moved in a trade than a free agent bat. “Whatever it takes” means just enough to best other teams in the trade market for that bat. I feel they have the depth in their prospect pool to win those kinds of deals. BTV isn’t perfect and I don’t subscribe but it has shown to be a reasonable measure for what it would take to win a deal. I would trade what it takes to add a bat this winter. I don’t know which bats will be available. A few moved last winter in trade so I assume some will be moved again. I don’t know what it would take. Do need to have those answers to suggest that free agency isn’t the only route to a bat and that the trade route might be better?

I concur.  My problem with BTV (especially at the trade deadline) is that it was no way in include how badly someone wants a particular player.  In your desire for a bat (everyone's desire I think) you appear to be willing to outbid other teams.  That seems to throw BTV out the window (which is what I would do).

From a purely baseball ops perspective, there's only one reason the Twins would trade Ryan and/or Lopez this winter: Falvey doesn't believe guys like Lewis, Wallner, and Lee are good enough to build around in the immediate term. Completing the teardown would then realign their contention timeline with the emergence of guys like Keaschall, Jenkins, Culpepper, Abel, etc. Let's hope the Pohlads allow Derek to make that decision.
